allowed to take off those masks in both places. excitement is at a high. >> tuesday is a big day. >> totally aware. >> reporter: in fact it, ballet crew we ran into is so excited they showed us their moves in preparation for their first live performance in a year and a half takes place friday at the great star theater in san francisco's chinatown. has there been a lot of dancing in the kitchen? >> yes. angry neighbors downstairs. >> reporter: in downtown pleasant hill business after business had these covid signs in their windows, but when the state's color-coded reopening plan is lifted on tuesday, these signs will no longer be seen. building owners ordered them down. >> so we haven't had to deal with unmasked customers until now, so it's a little nerve wracking, but i'm happy for what it will do to our business. >> reporter: while not everyone may realize tuesday is the day -- >> what's going to be done on tuesday? >> reporter: -- they know changes will come with the

official full reopening. >> reopening up, we're expecting. i'm waiting for that, people free to go out and enjoy and open their face. >> reporter: already many are showing off their faces. come tuesday they'll get to do it inside, too, at most locations. >> we're just ready. >> reporter: everyone, though, not shy in the least about what they're looking forward to. >> feel like going to the restaurant and actually filling up your own coke cup at taco bell. >> i'm a piano teacher. i'm teaching kids and looking forward to going into the homes and i've been vaccinated and it's all good. >> reporter: the general manager there at gotta eat a pita tells me she says excited about the reopening. it is a bit nerve wracking without the restrictions place. she's hoping the uptick in

business will outweigh the stress. if you're getting ready to venture out tuesday, it looks like the weather got the memo. meteorologist drew tuma with a look at that reopening forecast. >> it's going to be a little warmer tuesday than this past weekend, but all in all tuesday shaping up to be a really gorgeous day across the entire bay area. look at your afternoon highs on tuesday, temperatures at or just slightly above average, 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline, tons of sunshine. our warmest cities are getting into the low 90s. the hotter weather is about to move in later on this week starting wednesday. look at all these excessive heat warnings for southern california. excessive heat watches stretch up the central valley through redding and this does include parts of the bay area. we're likely going to go under a heat advisory or excessive heat warning later this week for triple digit temperatures. we'll show you how hot you get where you live in the full accuweather forecast. with reopening with horizon doctors are urging anyone who hasn't been vaccinated to book

vaccination numbers are low. are we safe to reopen on tuesday? >> it is safe to reopen in communities where there's a high rate of vaccination. people who are not vaccinated will be at risk of getting this delta variant because it is spreading in the united states. >> reporter: the delta variant makes up 6% of the covid-19 cases in the u.s. in the bay area, marin county detected at least seven of these cases in may. >> the main thing people can do is to get vaccinated. you give the virus less of a chance to move take the. >> reporter: this dr. krogan's team discovered groundbreaking details about the uk variant that could help understand the delta variant. >> what we discovered is that some of these other mutations are having an effect once the virus is in the cells and that it's suppressing the immune response. >> reporter: both experts agree that even though we're doing well in the u.s. and statewide, our focus now needs

to be on vaccinating the rest of the population at home and abroad fast. >> the big danger is that one of these days as the virus replicates around the world that there will be a variant that evades the vaccines we have today. >> reporter: in san francisco, luz pena, abc7 news. we have a complete list of what other restrictions will and will not change come june 15th. that's all on www.abc7news.com. if you want a vaccine appointment, that information is there as well. in san francisco dozens of people are displaced because of a fire that broke out at the national hotel on market street tonight. flames and smoke could be seen coming out of the rear of the building just as fire trucks arrived. on market a person got video you can see here of this huge cloud of smoke just drifting down the street. firefighters evacuated the three-story building rescuing 80 people and two dogs. supervisor matt haney tweeted that the hotel offers housing

to people facing homelessness. the red cross was called in to help provide shelter. >> everything was covered with smoke. i mean i couldn't see out the window. it was thick with gray and black smoke. i said holy cow, man, what's going on? >> the cause of the fire is under investigation tonight. the building is next to a.c.t.'s strand theater. thankfully that was not damaged. a couple from stockton has been reunited with their beloved dog after he was stolen from their car in san francisco. >> he's like where were you guys? >> you can see jacqueline so overcome with emotion as police returned their 10-year-old yorkie leo. we told you about the couple friday. they were celebrating their wedding anniversary when someone broke into their car near fisherman's wharf with leo inside. police tracked him down today after someone in oakland

in the east bay you can learn about the black panther party at a new pop-up exhibit in an oakland home. today abc7 got a sneak peek of the mini museum scheduled to open next saturday on juneteenth. the creator wants to highlight the black panthers' humanitarian efforts that began when the party was founded in oakland back in 1966. >> so this mural and this museum is trying to remind us of how to take care of each other, how to show up for each other and how to be humanitarians and that's what the black panthers taught me. >> they had so many humanitarian programs like their school breakfast program. the mini museum is located on the first floor of jill christina vest's home on center

street in west oakland. tickets are now on sale. in the north bay goats are being put to work in rohnert park. the animals are currently acting as lawnmowers chomping through the weeds and fox tails at the rohnert park animal shelter dog park. the goats will get the park to themselves tomorrow just so they can complete their mission. it will be closed. the city is asking residents not to pet them. that could distract them from their very important job. goats are often used as an eco friendly alternative to clearing out invasive plants and overgrown weeds. we're talking a lot about the drought. just how bad is it? the point reyes national seashore had to bring in water troughs for its largest toole elk herd. a lack of water could cause the animals to die who depend on the pond and other water sources that are dying up. no water means the grass the elk would feed on is drying up and doesn't pack the necessary

this week. abc7 news reporter dustin dorsey got a look at some of the things guests can see and do and how you can get those tickets. >> reporter: imagine some of the beautiful sights of the bay area, the golden gate bridge, levi stadium, apple park. now make it tiny. this is just a taste of what guests can expect at the all new lego land discovery center in milpitas. >> there really isn't anything in this area that kind of caters to the 3 through 12 demographic. we are the ultimate indoor lego playground. pretty much and everything you can think of lego. >> reporter: set to open the beginning of the pandemic, the 31,000 square foot interactive educational space was delayed, but they continued to build towards their opening brick by brick. guests can enjoy more than a dozen attractions that include interactive rides and movies, lessons from a lego builder and the centerpiece, a bay area- themed mini land. >> if you ever wondered what a

1.5 million lego building looked like, you'll have to see this. it took 7,000 hours to put together and it's a marvelous like amazing accomplishment. >> reporter: for ticket information visit www.abc7news.com. in milpitas, dustin dorsey, abc7 news. now abc7 meteorologist drew tuma joining us here with the weather, everyone focused on reopening come tuesday, but you're also talking about this heatwave, too. >> it's a really pleasant start to the week tomorrow, temperatures pretty much average. it's the second half of the week where you have the hot temps moving in and lasting for several days. out there tonight, though, it's all about that june gloom, our marine layer. it quickly moved back in even before the sun went down tonight. we had clouds rolling into the bay. so a live look of look of look exploratorium camera. we'll likely see coastal drizzle early tomorrow morning before the fog burns off for a lot of afternoon sunshine.

numbers now with the overcast skies, temperatures are elevated. we're in the 60s for the most part. it's still 63 in oakland now, 61 in the city, 64 in santa rosa, 65 in san jose, 67 that current temperature in concord. our humidity also remains elevated. we're looking at our dew point numbers. dew points measure how much moisture is in the atmosphere, how comfortable it feels outside. right now they're in the upper 50s to lower 60s and that's anywhere from muggy to humid for us this time of year, but as we advance the clock tomorrow and especially into the afternoon, we'll see drier air move in here. so by 4:00 those dew points are really going to drop into the 40s in a lot of spots. that's drier air, that's more comfortable air mass overhead to start out the week. let's time out the marine layer, about 3:00 in the morning widespread low cloud cover and againic ping up on some areas of drizzle. the best bet for that drizzle likely along the immediate coastline. by 9 a.m. we're hanging onto some of that cloud cover from san francisco

along the peninsula, parts of the east bay and south bay, but between 9:30 and 11 a.m. it all burns off for afternoon sunshine. tomorrow afternoon really is shaping up to be a beautiful day. overnight tonight it's all about the overcast skies, that fog dense in spots along the coastline along with some coastal drizzle. temperatures above average for this time of year overnight tonight, mid-50s to lower 60s, only dropping to about 60 in concord, 56 in the city, 60 in san jose, 53 the overnight low in santa rosa. so we begin the day tomorrow with a fair amount of cloud cover, burns off by lunchtime. in the afternoon it's a bright looking day, 65 in the city, 71 in oakland, 77 the high in san jose. that's very comfortable for this time of year. 79 in santa rosa, 81 that high in concord. winds, though, do turn breezy, if not gusty, tomorrow afternoon. we've seen this pattern time and time again. so tomorrow afternoon winds gusting about 20 to 30 miles per hour. by tuesday warmer weather starts to move in here. it's not all that hot. our warmest areas are going to

the low 90s, but by wednesday, that's when we see a dramatic jump in our temperatures, especially away from the coast. we do expect our hottest spots on wednesday to meet 100 degrees, maybe exceed that by a degree or 2, even around the bay shoreline starting to see some 80s pop up. here's the accuweather seven- day forecast. lower humidity tomorrow, warming beginning on tuesday, really takes over on wednesday with the moderate heat risk, but our hottest day will be thursday where we have triple digit temperatures. the coast right now looks like we'll have enough onshore flow where it doesn't get too hot close to the ocean, but nonetheless it stays pretty hot inland until next week. >> texting my friends with a pool. >> who's got a pool? best friends this

stiff competition this weekend, but a pekinese wasabi, the 3-year-old from pennsylvania, the top dog out of 2,500 dogs that entered the competition. tomorrow morning wasabi is set to make an appearance on gma. you can see it here tomorrow morning at 7:00. this year the competition was relocated because of the pandemic. for many dog owners just making it to the show is a thrill itself and that includes former giants star barry bonds who entered a miniature schnauzer named rocky which he owns with his sister. rocky didn't win his breed, but bond said he was proud of rocky just for qualifying. >> the reward is getting here. he qualified. it's like when i played baseball, it's just getting there. i've been to a lot of playoffs and world series and never won, played for 22 years and kept trying, but the actual thing is

tuesday near the b.a.r.t. station. >> we'll be honoring fire personnel. we'll be honoring teachers. >> reporter: but in other places like this, san francisco's union square, the reopening celebration will have to wait long past june 15th. storefronts are boarded up. many businesses across the city were lost to the pandemic. >> san francisco will bounce back. this is just going to be a harder bounce than expected. >> tragically my uncle passed away from it. i was hospitalized for a little over a week. >> reporter: san jose planning commission president rolando bunea is a covid survivor and hopes the lessons of the past year won't be lost with reopening. >> we all absolutely need one another. if we're going to be better than we were before the virus, we have to remember that. >> reporter: in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc7 news. a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by staff members of a houston hospital who refused to get vaccinated for covid-19. it's believed to be the first

ruling on vaccine mandates. more than 100 employees sued houston methodist hospital because it's requiring all employees to get vaccinated or risk losing their job. the lawsuit calls the vaccines experimental and dangerous. the judge agreed with the hospital that the claims about the vaccine are untrue. lawyers for the employees say they will be filing an appeal. after the conclusion of the g7 summit in england president joe biden traveled to brussels today ahead of tomorrow's nato summit and wednesday the president has a much anticipated face-to-face meeting with russian president vladimir putin. here's more on what's to come. >> reporter: president biden arriving in brussels sunday after wrapping up the g7 summit in cornwall, england. >> i think we made some progress in reestablishing american credibility. >> reporter: the g7 leader offering a united front on a global plan to end the pandemic

countries are at a low point. the president said he hopes to find areas where the two countries can work together. benjamin netanyahu's 12- year run as israel's prime minister has come to an end. the country's parliament approved a new coalition government by just one vote. it was very close. it puts netanyahu's rival neftali bennett in power. president joe biden put out a statement congratulating bennett saying he looks forward to working with him. netanyahu is not walking away from politics saying he will be back. he leaves office, though, as the longest serving leader of israel. demonstrators gathered in san francisco today to protest u.s. aid to israel and colombia. the group rallied and painted a street mural in front of the israeli and colombian consulates on montgomery street. they're both in the same building. the group claims the u.s. fund are fueling fueling

into a zoom meeting, we're worried about the technology. >> reporter: and doctors warn that stroke symptoms can can on suddenly. like ann did, you must act quickly. zohreen shah, abc news, los angeles. a 56-year-old aviation mystery outside of sacramento may finally be solved. in 1965 a plane crashed into the lake after a midair collision. the bodies of three people on board were never found. recently workers testing underwater surveying equipment spotted something unusual at the bottom of lake folsom. using advanced sonar technology they saw parts of an aircraft matching the description of the plane that went down more than five decades ago. >> he sees something on the bottom like this that looks manmade. that's when we decide okay, there's definitely something down there and maybe it's the plane. >> this technology is so advanced. low lake levels due to the
