stabbing a 94-year-old asian woman today. what the mayor and spfd have to say. >> tracking extreme and dangerous heat. hour by hour warnings coming up. >> a flex alert issued for tomorrow. tonight we're finding ways to cut back and conserve. abc7 news starts right now. it's very hot out here already. so it's going to be blistering and tomorrow it's going to be worse. >> a punishing triple digit heat wave is gripping the bay area. power grid operators are pleading for conversation and issues a flex assert. and smog has prompted a spare the air alert.

>> it's cooking out here today and it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. >> thank you for joining us today. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. let's start with sandhya patel with the latest for us. >> reporter: it's going to be the kind of extreme heat that will likely set record. let's take a look at the temperatures this is only sample. antioch 108 degrees, calistoga 104. heat advisory. there is a risk of heat illnesses tomorrow. we also add in an excessive heat warning. 98 to 108 degrees possibly higher. we're talking up to 110 degrees which is why you need to make sure you stay hydrated. i can't emphasize that enough. don't leave people or pets in the vehicles. try to take frequent breaks es especially if you work

outdoors. i'll be back with an hour by hour forecast. as she just mentioned we already saw some triple digit temperatures and now power outages. abc 7 news reporter jr stone is live in danville at how locals there are staying cool. jr. >> ama, they are staying creative out here as well. according by thermometer. good news to report tonight the temperature just over 70 much cooler than what we saw earlier today and look behind me. this is an area that didn't have power earlier, the power is now back on. lines outside of the danville smart and final and the near by taco bell after 3,500 customers lost power in the area. this gas station was roped off during the outage as well. cause is unknown. but it happened at a time when temperatures were hovering

around 100-degree. >> does this weather slow you down at all? >> yeah. >> and the outages felt over. in yonksville at the veterans home. no power for many others. wednesday afternoon though, confirmation that after nearly 24 hours, power was back on ahead of schedule. >> it's tough when you're on medication or you're elderly that you feel everything more. everything is more dramatic. we had it back on about an hour, hour and a half ago. in walnut creek playgrounds like this one at the community center not nearly as busy as the snow cone truck. >> is it good? >> yeah. >> is it nice and cold? >> yes. >> it is cooking out here today and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. >> i'm pretty sure like 99- degree. >> a reason why the

to your health. new details on what police call a nonprovoked attack that sent an asian woman to the hospital with stab wound. as kate larsson reports, a suspect is now under arrest. >> reporter: shortly after taking this video, francisco found out that the ambulance was for his friend and neighbor taylor. >> i'm like wow, that's the last person that deserves something like that. >> reporter: daniel couch stabbed her with a knife when taylor was out for a walk. >> we believe this was attack. >> she's just the sweetest

little lady ever. >> reporter: police found couch a few blocks from the crime scene and arrested him. he's known to sfpd. in 2016 he was arrested on murder charges in a stabbing. a judge dismissed the charges in 2019 for lack of evidence. then on may8, and 18th of this year he was arrested on burglary arrested charges. >> this could have been avoided had this person been held responsible for the other cases. >> reporter: the mayor helped to bring together the community. >> who do you think is responsible? >> i think our criminal justice -t system is responsible. it it all plays a role. our police officers if you look at the record of what's been happening in this city in almost every case they have made arrest. so it's up to the district attorney to prosecute, its up to the court to also hold people accountable. and something is missing here

the abc 7 news i team is learning more about a grass fire that damaged 8 homes and forced dozens to evacuate in vallejo last night. we covered that last night when it happened. neighbors have said they've been waiting for this to happen for years siting their conversations with the property owner. >> reporter: she always feared the parcel of land bordering her property would become a recipe for disaster and last night it did. >> we asked for the neighbor who lives next door to this house who's the owner of that property who failed to cut it

for years. we've gone to the city an asked them to cut it and this is the result of it. >> reporter: four homes are damaged, a well known martial artist karley gracie owns the parcel. >> i watched him. many people don't know he's the owner. he went behind his house and he sprayed behind his house with the water hose. >> reporter: gracie has received four warnings over the past year. francis velasco who lives across the street. >> how often is this property abated. >> not that often. >> reporter: neighbor pat carpenter says in the past goats have been used to maintain the field. but he did notice a group come by recently. >> several weeks ago they came through and mowed the perimeter and a couple of fire breaks. >> reporter: the fire
