lent. some places are still hitting up, but it is really hot right now. let's look at current temperature readings. we have temperature readings above 100 degrees. that 106 in livermore is a record, if i'm not mistaken. we have at least one record high today. 102 in danville. you can see the inland valleys of the east bay are really hot. 109 further north, cloverdale 109, and ukiah 107. we have numerous upper 80s to low 90s and other locations around the bay area. let's take a look at how dangerous this heat is. we have a heat advisory in effect for all of the south bay, much of the santa cruz mountains, parts of peninsula my north bay. and and excessive heat warning in effect for all of the inland, east bay, east bay valleys, through the diablo range, and a good portion of north bay.

the good news is this advisory and the warning will expire at 9:00 this evening but when we do expect cooler and more comfortable weather for the weekend the full forecast coming up later. trying to beat the heat can take on many forms. some try to get an early start before it really gets scorching hot. for those who would rather not deal with it, you can sit at home and depend on your air conditioning. apparently, a lot of people had that idea in mind. >> i do not have an ac unit. i sold out of those within the first 2 days i brought them in this week. i put in an order for 40 more, and they should be here on monday. >> walnut creek hardware had never carried ac units before this week. they suddenly find themselves in the ac business. sonoma county moving quickly to address the drought situation. the board moved forward today to adopt a resolution allowing emergency projects to be done without having to put them up for bid. the county will also give the

general manager of sonoma water the power to act to protect the water supply. the sonoma county water agency reduced flows on the russian river this week, a move that at first might sound devastating for local economies, but as abc7's wayne freedman reports, there's a 70- year-old backup system coming into play. >> reporter: on the russian river, looks can be deceiving. fast-moving water my yes, but in this drought year, it is artificial. here is why. man-made dams. two of them have gone up this week, one here at vacation beach, and another in johnson's beach, where the water is now 6 feet deep. >> before the dam got put in, it was about ankle-deep this year. >> they put in these dams almost every year, but because of the doubts droughts in 2021, they are more essential. just this week the sonoma county water agency reduced its flow from 100 cubic paid per 2nd to 65. >> reporter: have you seen her for this low? >> this is the lowest i have

stream. new details on the stabbing of an elderly woman in san francisco. the suspect was in court today pleading not guilty. he is being held without bail. we have surveillance video showing what led up to the attack. you may find this video disturbing, as well as flat out disgusting. this is out of control city. the victim, 94-year-old peng taylor is in blue walking down post street. the suspect approaches are, attacks, and walks away. peng is recovering in the hospital with wounds to her torso and wrist. the suspect, daniel cauich, has been caught and charged with assault and elder abuse. in the wake of violence against asian-americans, there was a show of solidarity between an african-american and the aapi community today. reverend jesse jackson among those in the colorful show if you needed a today in portsmouth square. they touched on juneteenth as

californians to access the covered vaccination records. anyone who has been vaccinated can download an electronic version of the card they received when they got their initial shot. officials call it a digital covid-19 vaccine record. >> the odds are someone is going to misplace their papers cdc card, and the digital covid- 19 vaccine record provides a convenient backup. we are better enabling californians to verify their vaccination status to ensure estate is in a better position to encourage best practices in reducing the spread of covid- 19. a >> governor newsom promoted the new system during a visit in oakland yesterday, insisting it's not a passport. he compared it to a digital version of your drivers license allowing you to keep something in your digital wallet. you should check yours for accuracy. we checked, and the information was incorrect for a few of our colleagues. you can access your records on my vaccine record.cd ph.ca.gov. we have that link on abc7news.com . the cdc will hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss whether there is a link between the covid-19 vaccine and the heart inflammation seen in a small percentage of teenagers. there have been 300 reported cases out of the 20 million teens who recently got the shot. so far, data has not shown a link, , ,

as we head toward's juneteenth, we have been sharing stories that highlight what freedom means to the black community. >> today we look at a san francisco program creating opportunities for upward economic mobility. julian glover has a look at the opportunities for all initiative, and the new workforce training program targeting black and brown use that will soon be funded by dollars to vested from sf pd. >> reporter: after 4 month of adti d thesof the city emt pilo >> we wanted them to know you can do it, and let us show you how you can do it, let us help you and provide the curriculum. >> attica is the founder of the program, the chief of the fire department. she launched the nonprofit with the goal of providing young black that next and asian- pacific islander adults from underserved parts of san francisco with hands-on training, and a life-changing pathway to a stable well-paying career.

>> it's a program that is essentially gearing towards career readiness in emt or the medical field in general. >> reporter: the pilot program launched earlier this year and is funded through the office of work for developments opportunities for all initiative, one of mayor london breed's signature programs for san francisco use 13 to 24. >> i wanted to make sure we had a program where kids cannot only have experiences and learn about incredible opportunities come about that money was not a barrier to their success. >> reporter: natalie was the training free, each student received a $3000 per month stipend, part of a guaranteed income pilot program, so they wouldn't have to worry about how to make ends meet while studying. >> this stipend made sure i didn't retract back to thatrter hop use emt get him a fi d the opportunities for all initiative also helping young adults from marginalized communities secure hands-on training in the film industry.

captured both. >> it is just history repeating >> rorr: there is move just blocks to his new location, but when dave took these photos in the 70s, he didn't have much company. >> reporter: it wasn't a big deal at that time? >> it was not. in 1974, the house move occurred at nighttime, and the public was just not made aware of it at of time was not many people out. >> reporter: in the 70s, the houses were also being moved for a different reason. back then, the victorians weren't in the best shape. >> yeah, maybe worse. actually, much worse. >> reporter: in the 1950s, san francisco wanted to build a new , modern housing to attract more affluent residents to the city's western addition neighborhood, home to mostly black families.

the city's redevelopment agency began demolishing the victorians roughly 2500 in total. years later, after public outcry , these 12 were saved, and sold to mostly wait upper-middle- class residence. >> it felt good in a way that a few houses were saved, but it was very sad to see that the neighborhood was gone. >> we are on fillmore street in san francisco. >> reporter: lewis is a photographer and historian who documented life from the western addition and fillmore neighborhoods before redevelopment in his book "harlem of the west: the san francisco jazz era." >> there were black run hotels in this neighborhood, black churches, and people said with this concentration, this is like the harlem of the west. w.h.i.p. the majority of san francisco's black residents lived here, since many parts of san francisco and black people from owning or even renting homes under racial covenants and restrictions. the city's redevelopment plans forced most of them out. >> what happened was there was a

mass eviction, a lot of people living here alnoces so wn is fish, move back. ut than it was a promise unkept. more than 800 businesses closed, and nearly 5000 black residents had to leave their homes, with no eminent domain or reimbursement. when rebuilding started, mostly white residents moved in, while black residents were forced to find housing in less expensive areas outside of the city. >> some people went to daly city. some people went to oakland and richmond and in different places. they were dispersed, and literally there was a list of everybody who had to move, the idea they had to come back, but we heard only one family did. it was thriving culturally and an incredible community, and it just got wiped out. >> reporter: in 2020, the city's planning commission

apologized for the impact redevelopment had on the western addition, and fillmore, and passed a resolution to focus its work and researchers on, quote, racial and social equity. the city of san francisco has created a task force to look at reparations for black residents. >> it's a present to see what they look like now. >> reporter: dave said he never imagined his photos would get renewed attention. now they come and the fascination with moving victorians must serve as a reminder of the past, and a guide for creating a new path forward. >> i just hope that there is more of an awareness of how neighborhoods have integrity, and community, and when you remove the buildings, it is more than just the buildings being moved, it is the community , and the neighborhoods integrity being lost. >> reporter: in san francisco, kumasi aaron, abc7 news. when we return, a very different kind of house,
