joining us. i'm dion lim. you are watching abc7 news at 11:00 live here on abc7, hulu live and wherever you stream. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard has the latest on the investigation into the shooting. police gave an update today. >> pop, pop, pop. >> reporter: this man who wants to stay anonymous said he was only feet away when gunfire broke out in the 2200 block of lakeshore avenue saturday night. what did you do? >> [ bleep ] duck, crawled by a shade structure and people trampled over me. it was crazy. >> i heard about 30 gunshots. >> reporter: police say a crowd of about 10,000 people gathered on lake merritt including abc7 news anchor jobina fortson who caught people on her cell phone running. a 22-year-old man from san francisco died at a hospital. six others were wounded. >> extremely chaotic. a lot was going on.

>> reporter: neighbors shot this video of a crowd surrounding an ambulance of one person is seen climbing up and dancing on the hood. two suspects were found by police running from the scene. >> we arrested two males and recovered two firearms. investigators are still looking to see if those individuals are connected to the shooting. >> reporter: police say a big saturday celebration was happening on the lake. >> our investigators believe that this is not directly connected to juneteenth. >> reporter: but others believe the juneteenth celebration was tarnished by violence. >> it's unfortunate that that shooting is bringing down the overall sense of just celebration, joy that everyone had and was feeling yesterday. >> i don't know what the motivation was, but, you know, an event like this, something like that shouldn't happen. >> it's sad. it's sad for oakland, very sad. just pray for all of the victims. >> police say all six surviving shooting victims are in stable condition. the department says it's possible other suspects are

still out there. so a reward of $40,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. police say they will have more to stay on this case monday. cornell barnard, abc7 news. oakland city council president bass and council member carol fife recorded a message at lake merritt tonight and offered their condolences to the victim's family. >> wanted to come together to show support for the families of the victims, for the community and we commit ourselves to creating a safe oakland. >> we know that if we're relying on the police alone, that's not enough and that we have to do so much more. >> the council members are inviting the community to come to lake merritt for a vigil this tuesday at 6 p.m. oakland mayor libby schaaf also released this statement on the shooting saying in part, "a joyous occasion at our lake merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence. our thoughts are with the family and friend of the victims and i want to thank our

officers for a quick response." we sent this push alert when police updated the number of shooting victims this morning. be among the first to know by downloading the free abc7 news app and turning on notifications. turning now to the coronavirus, the cdc says the more contagious delta variant is now responsible for 10% of new cases in the u.s. california is one of 46 states where it has been detected. the state department of public health is also reporting 349 cases of the variant in california. also we are on pace to come up short of president biden's goal of getting 70% of american adults vaccinated with at least one dose by july 4th. currently about 53% have had a single dose. california has now administered more than 40 million vaccinations. speaking of, starting tomorrow you'll be able to get a vaccine and a big mac at some mcdonald's locations. mcdonald's is teaming up with the california department of public health to offer shots at

canceled hundreds of flights. saturday 123 flights canceled, sunday 178, monday 97 flights. tonight american responding in part, "the first few weeks of june have brought unprecedented weather to our largest hubs heavily impacting our operation and causing delays, canceled flights and disruptions to crew members' schedules and our customers' plans. that combined with a labor shortage." in early 2020 when air travel came to a halt, many airlines offered their employees early retirement packages and buyouts. now here we are a year later and many of those positions need to be filled again. we met jason ventura at sfo. he travels every two weeks for work. >> we didn't have an air steward or a pilot that was coming in on a different flight had to run over to our airplane essentially so they could fly our planes perform. >> reporter: abc news confirmed united airlines is

accident. one member of the group was killed and another injured after they were hit by the truck at the stonewall pride parade and street festival north of ft. lauderdale. the truck crashed into a nearby garden center moments after it plowed into the crowd. the 77-year-old driver was taken into custody. >> it was bad. it was like oh, my god, i can't believe this is happening. >> the truck narrowly missed the car. florida congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz was riding in. she thanked first responders on twitter and added, "we are praying for the victims and their loved ones." a suspect has been charged with murder in russia in the death of an american student who vanished there the body of 34-year-old katherine surro was found in a wooded area about 250 miles east of moscow. in a statement today a russian court alleged that the suspect gave her a ride before killing her an hour later.
