our air conditioner for mother nature today keeping much of the bay area comfortable while an area of high pressure builds into the pacific northwest allowing for lake county to be excessively hot. there's the fog for mount tam. it is mid50's downtown. on the coast it's 55. you can see that fog reaching into our east bay. mid50's from santa rosa, napa and while these communities warm up it's really further to the north. also in our east bay it'll be warm but have you to get really far past the delta to experience the excessive heat. or is from the advisories. through tuesday. we can see temperatures anywhere from 102 to perhaps 110 and that raises the risk of heat related illnesses. back home low clouds and fog and temperatures climbing through the 70's to near 80 inland by noontime. mid-70s later on this afternoon by the bay. we will keep it cool at the

coast and talk cooler details for the second half of the weekend. >> thank you. extreme heat in the park northwest is melting snow and ice on mount rani, r in washington state. it has 25 major glaciers and higher elevations won't be able to escape the historic and life threatening heat wave. the national weather service said several cities will break heat records. many people are rushing to find air conditionerns. >> you know right now i'm currently out looking for portable air conditioning units. feels like i have been to all hardware store trying to search for those precious equipment right now. >> seattle is the least air conditioned metro area in the united states just ahead of san francisco. beat the heat by tracking temperatures any time our live temperature tracker is in the weather section of the abc7 bay area connected tv apps wherever you stream. in southern california a skywest passenger

pounded on a cockpit door and tried to break-in at los angeles international airport. a scary situation. failing to get in the fbi said the man opened an emergency door and jumped out e skywest which was operating this united express jet said that it all happened as the plane was taxiing to the runway for a flight to salt lake city. the man was taken into custody on the taxi way and taken to the hospital. the plane was able to get back to the gate and nobody on board was hurt. nobody else. and just thursday night -- it seems like so many of these are happening. a driver smashed through a gate at lax and led police on a chase over two runways as planes took off and landed. police cornered the vehicle and took that man into custody. we want to get to florida now where the search for survivors continues this morning in surfside. that's where a condo tower collapsed this week.

it has just been devastating this story. crews have been work around the clock since the building came down on thursday early morning while people were asleep. 159 people remain unaccounted for. the county confirms that four people are dead. the cause of the collapse is still a mystery this morning and coming up at 6:30 we will bring you a live report from surfside with morgan norwood with the latest and we are wait on a press conference that we will bring you live. back here at home in the east bay a dead whale is stuck on a rocky beach next to a richmond neighborhood. you can see that video there. the gray whale washed on shore near peninsula drive on thursday. kate larson spoke about this very large and smelly problem. >> its been floating around the bay for a month. >> when we came across it and just stopped us in our tracks. >> it washed on shore in marin and this week the tide brought it to the richmond

shoreline. >> we couldn't see it. >> it's decomposing body now hidden along the rocks. >> kind of sad. >> the whale is one of 14 grill what they that have turned up dead in the bay area this year. one woman came to see it. >> i have never seen a whale close up even though it's not alive. i wanted to come and see it. maybe see if i could figure out what happened to it. >> an unusual mortality event. that's what experts calling the increased number of gray whales. >> to see a wild creature like that it does take us out of ourselves and realize that it's just not human beings. >> in other whales malnutrition, and trauma from ship strikes are the most common causes of death. >> they are hoping that the whale will wash back out to the bay. >> john is a supervisor.

he said they don't think towing it is an option. >> they believe that the best thing is for the whale to decompose naturally which, that process can take up to 30 days. >> which is not what nehbs nttose obviously very concerning because it stinks. spend a lot of time in the water. we swim and stand up paddle. i don't know what this is going to be falling in to pieces and drift around. >> for now they said the city will tape off the area around the whale to keep people safe. >> the fda has added a warning to vaccines about the risk of heart inflammation, referring to inflammation of the heart muscle and tisha round the heart. a very small number of young thnefits out weigh o

the risks. they just want to be transparent. derek chauvin was sentenced yesterday to 22 and a half years in prison for the murder of george floyd. the sentence comes more than a year after that viral video live streamed the former police officer pressing his knee into floyd's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds. at the start of the hearing floyd's daughter was given a chance to speak. >> if you could say anything to your dad what would it be >> it would be i miss you i love you. >> chauvin is expected toa feel to appeal and he is also facing federal civil rights charges. that trial is scheduled to start early next year. the san jose school district announced they will not have police on campus starting this upcoming

school year. they voted to reject the agreement ending the relationship with the police department and the district. the superintendent said that they are reworking their campus safety plans ahead of back to day in august. it was a big night in the bay area, oracle park hosted the largest local public gathering since the pandemic started. the bay bridge series. we were at the stadium with thousands of very excited fans packed the stands with no restrictions. >> the first time since the pandemic that the park was almost at capacity with over 36,000 fans. >> are you excited >> yeah. i'm ready for -- i'm excited for the giants to win. >> it's kind of crazy. it's like they made it like that because it's the battle of the bay. >> the first time vaccination cards were not checked but this hard corea's

. you can see the pride flag waving there. it is the start of the last weekend of pride. it's windy this morning. happening today in the wake of the violence against the asian american community there will be a care fair in san francisco. this is the second event after people attended in new york city. there will be self defense demonstrations a i stress management workshop and meditation it. runs one to four this afternoon at portsmith square in china town. as we said it's e final weekend of pride month. while san francisco will not host it's usual pride

perspective. those who look to the oakland hills and saw beauty while others worried about how quickly this scene may turn. >> give us a fighting chance to save your home and save your life. >> oakland deputy fire chief had a press conference this weekend where he and city officials implored residents to be careful in the coming fire season. >> we are at huge fire risk in oakland. especially in the hills area. >> the perfect storm that keeps getting more perfect. >> even on a relatively cool, calm day like this there is a sense of urgency. on average the hills see a major wildfire every 20 years. it's now been 30 bingest one. the sights and sounds and fears are seared into memory. >> the wind was blowing like a hurricane. you could hear it. sue piper her family lost their home that day in flames that killed 25 people and destroyed almost

increasing likelihood of psps outages. we are entering that time of year and of course -- where we had the glass fire. >> they are out of the heat advisory today. we are just on the edge. if you go far into sonoma county and into lake county it'll get hot quick because that big dome of high pressure is centered to the north of that area. we will be looking at the excessive heat advisory and warnings from lake county to -- through the park northwest. back home we have low clouds and fog that are beginning to break up but we have had mist and drizzle and high pressure as it builds in will allow for the temperatures to stay hot not only today but through the weekend into monday and tuesday for some of these areas. back home pretty shot here, san rafael. partly cloudy skies, 58 in oakland and 60 mountain view and san jose with 59 in morgan hill and at the

coast it's 55. here is walnut creek. partly cloudy skies. the fog has reached to our inland valleys. you have the idea that it's not going to get to hot for sure locally. 56 by the delta. this is where we are going to see temperatures begin to increase as we head toward the east bay valleys. not that bad really. 55 in santa rosa and looking at our roof camera where you can see all the gray sky here. we will be looking at the mist and drizzle just for the next hour or so. the clouds already lifting and allowing for a heat up. we will be warmer today, around the bay. san francisco is in the mid- 60s's, oakland will come up around three to five degrees but that is seasonal and looking at more mist and drizzle with the cooldown for sunday. this is all the areas that will experience the heat. many of us along the west coast but look at the bay area. pretty much left out of it but as we look at the numbers just north and east of here, sacramento, 100 degrees. that's hot, redding and 113 and

you heard about the heat from medford to portland. 107. as you head 0's.eyanget really but not going to happen as we are looking at low clouds and fog along the shoreline. 60's and 70's for your sunday across the bay. 80's and low 90's. some of that pink starting to retreat but into tuesday, it's still hot in the outlying areas but locally we are looking at comfortable readings as we get to the rest of the highs today you can see the pinks, this is where we are going to see the numbers spike quickly. mid-80s's in napa. 90 in santa rose a. that's warmer than yesterday and even today from san francisco to oakland we are adding two to four degrees. maybe a little warmer but across into fremont the bayshore line. pretty nice. 79, 77 in palo alto. the pinks here indicating the ridge of high pressure sinking southward into some of

part of our efforts to build a better bay area. the governor was in the south bay yesterday to talk about the plan. chris was there and has the story. >> a new proposal by the governor and state lawmakers would extend california's eviction moratorium through september. it would also pay landlords 100% of unpaid rent related to coronavirus. >> anyone that's been inpacted by this pandemic cannot pay rent, 100% of that rent will be paid for. not 80%, 100% will be paid for. >> the five billion dollars package amounts to one of the most generous in the country and would reimburse landlords for missed utility bills. city and county relief programs could see a boost but not everybody is thrilled the plan. the california apartment association which represents landlords panned the extension and said in a statement it is frustrating that the state of california and local governments have not quickly dispersed funds to those in

need, especially to mom and pop renting housing advisers who must pay the mortgage, insurance, taxes, maintenance and other expenses without seeing any rent. the governor's announcement came as he toured life untain view as part s project home key initiative. >> it's a home for people that are looking to find stability. >> some say the plan to tackle homelessness may be costly but others say doing nothing isn't an option. >> the old things we have been trying to address homelessness haven't been working. now we have to try something new and we are in the heart of silicon valley. that's what this issue needs. >> and programs such as coronavirus rent relief could help keep more people from going into homelessness. the legislature must pass the emergency bill by wednesday to keep current protections in place. in mountain view. abc7 news. south lake tahoe police are

. thank you for joining us here on abc7 news. we are going to start this half hour with another look at the weather with lisa. good morning. >> hey. good morning to you. we have low clouds, fog, even some sun out there. the marine layer helping us out today allowing for most of us not to get too hot. there is a look at at partly cloudy. it's 60 san jose with mid50's and fog. half moon bay. this is a look at walnut creek where you see the fog has not totally there. it's breaking up. we had it this morning. it is been a gray start. still cool up in the north bay with mid50's. upper 50's over in oakland. i should say in concord. and here is the dangerous heat. the advisories lake county, up toward willets and the excessive heat warning lake

port to lower lake and hidden valley lake. from 102 to 110 today through tuesday. it'll get really hot there and not cool off because of the sea breeze, not extending or the low clouds into that area any time soon. it'll be local and affect san francisco and oakland today. allowing for temperatures to stay in the 60's and 70's but the further north you get, 101 by three will stay in the 80's in napa, 9o's up toward santa rosa. low to mid-90s for most of you from our east bay valleys about you you head out toward the delta. it'll get hot there today. we will talk about more fog. the coastal drizzle, the cooldown and next week in a few minutes which features seasonal temperatures. >> all right. thank you. back to that developing news. crews working through the night to find survivors of that deadly building collapse in south florida. they had to work through rain and fire as they
