abc 7 news reporter, cornell bernard, spoke with first responders at the scene and joins us live with the latest. talk about scary, cornell. >> yeah, it really is scary for that surfer. fire officials say that surfer now listed in serious condition at san francisco general hospital. he was attacked by a great white shark about two miles south of here. >> yeah, that's crazy to hear someone got bit by a shark. >> reporter: beach-goers reacting to the news. a shark attack at gray whale cove state beach. the state is closed. >> the patient was bitten by a smaller great white shark and was able to pulla, shore. >> reporter: the shark bit the surfer in the back of the right

leg, causing a severe wound. >> they lost about a pint of blood. and they were able t a tourniquet on. >> reporter: that was complicated due to the fact that it was too foggy helicopters couldn't land here. the victim had to be carried almost a mile. the great white shark was about six to eight feet in length. >> the surfer did get a look at the shark and that's how he was able to identify. >> reporter: folks waded into the surf. others are staying on dry land. >> yeah, terrifying. great white shark? i've seen jaws. i know what they can do. it was pretty crazy. >> having a good time, and a great white. so definitely makes >> reporter: those we spoke with

in the wake of the violence against the aapi community, the aa, pi care fair went bi in san francisco today. that fair focused on joy, healing and safety on the west coast. 2,000 people turned out to a similar event in new york city. in the east bay, the oakland roots will play a soccer game in a different venue. last night's sell out home opener was critical because league officials say the field of not acceptable for play.
