the search for survivors continues round-the-clock. >> reporter: from surf side florida the number of missing dropped from 159 to 156 tonight. but that's because authorities were able to identify three of the bodies they'd already recovered. still rescue workers are undeterred. they hugged outside the family assistance center tonight. leaned on one another on the worst week of their lives. desperate loved ones have finally heard some news in the search though not the news they wanted to hear. >> today our search and rescue teams found another body. in the rubble. and our search has revealed some human remains.

>> reporter: authorities have secured dna samples from family members to make the i.d. a terrified mother lashed out at the governor of florida. >> imagine if your children were in there. >> really, really difficult time right now. you wake up in the morning hoping that more and more people were pulled out. and that news hasn't been what we have homed. >> reporter: newly released documents reveal new concerns about the structural integrity of the tower south, dating to 2018. an engineer warned that major structural damage to the concrete slab under the pool as well as cracking. engineers found the overall concrete framing was in good condition. building management spent the last two years planning for construction, but the work had yet to begin when the building pancaked to the ground. the

this happened this morning at gray whale cove state beach between montera and pacifica. >> yeah, that's crazy to hear someone got bit by a shark. >> reporter: beach goers reacting to the news. a shark attack at gray whale cove state beach. posted signs say the beach is closed. first responders say a 39-year-old surfer was bit. >> the patient was bitten by a smaller great white shark and was able to swim to shore with assistance from bystanders. they pulled him along to the beach and were able to start care until the first responders got there. >> reporter: the shark bit the surfer in the back of the right leg, causing a severe wound. >> they lost about a pint of blood. and they were able to put a tourniquet on. >> reporter: rescue was complicated this morning due to the fog that it was too foggy. and rescue helicopters couldn't land.

to a call at 3:30 am. they said a man answered the door and then slammed it shut. >> he then goes into the home, loads up a semiautomatic pistol and returns and opens the door and begins to open fire o deputies. >> reporter: they the sheriff's department the 21-year-old retreated then jumped to a third-story window to escape, losing his weapon in the process. he then surrendered. >> this is the second shooting for us in the last couple months where our deputies have been ambushed. where the suspect has been lying in wait and the suspect has fired first in an attempt to kill our deputies within close range. something is going on in our communities with the amount of violence.
