the spirit of pride is alive. how this weekend's celebrations are bringing much-needed boost to local businesses. authorities began identifying victims of the partially collapsed condo building in florida as the death toll rises to five. i'm faith abubey on scene with details coming up. good morning. it sunday, june 27. i'm liz kreutz. thank you for joining us on abc7 news live on abc7, hulu live and wherever you stream. we will get to the latest on the condo collapse in just a moment, but first let's look at the local weather with meteorologist lisa argen.

it's very hot in part to the bay area. it did get hot and land. we had the afternoon sea breeze. right now we have a pretty good marine layer established along the coast, along the bay area, and intruding into the east bay. if we extend the view, throughout california from the now north to the south, this is taking the edge off the heat to the north of us. we have those advisories to pass from lake county into mendocino county until 9:00 tonight. that means temperatures over 100 degrees. maybe 105, 1or10. mid and upper from san mateo to hayward. 54, santa rosa. san rafael. starting with plenty of clouds. partly cloudy moon time. it a cooler day today. instead of the hot to mid-upper 90s inland, low 90s.

time in a row, the pride parade was canceled, but inside the castro theater which opened for the first time since the pandemic, many lined up to celebrate, watching an lgbtq film. it's also helping business owners recover from the pandemic. according to the merchants association, about 30 businesses had to shut down. >> there were about eight businesses that opened up during the pandemic, and they are doing okay. we are asking all the neighbors to come and support them. >> reporter: thankful for the influx of customers. >> we are getting fuel coming in here. >> reporter: that level of community support is what troy back to san francisco this weekend.r ofmy nit i am the widows way in tobe sparkle. >> reporter: surrounded by friends, troy decided this is how he wanted to celebrate his late husband.

during pride weekend in the city and the place where they went on their first date. >> pride is the biggest day of the year to us. it is our christmas, valentines, every holiday rolled into one. and we lived for it. a beloved annual san francisco summer tradition is celebrating pride. stern grove welcomes perfume genius who is headlining the concert with san francisco native mahogany hosting. doors open at noon with the show starting at 2:00 this afternoon. reservations are required and they are free. head to the stern grove website. oakland is continuing pride celebrations. yesterday businesses were featured. the indoor outdoor space was filled with vendors, merchants and nonprofits to support lgbtq communities. black pride say the goal is to

condo in florida. the remains are being sent to the medical examiner. authorities are gathering dna samples to help identify them. 156 people are still missing. we have a live report with abc news reporter faith abubey joining us with the latest developments. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. search and rescue teams are still at it at this hour. hope is still driving the effort, but for the family members who have been waiting for answers, the weight is becoming more difficult. more heartbreaking news from surfside, florida, where an apartment building collapse. another body pulled from the wreckage. >> our top priority continues to be search and rescue, and saving any lives weekend. >> reporter: crews said they found additional human remains, but rescue teams remain determined to find any signs of life. debris smoldering for days.

workers battling fires and heavy smoke. >> it is a lot to take in. the magnitude. the feeling when you are there. it's very quiet, but it is surreal. >> reporter: four victims identified including gladys and antonio. 79 and 83 years old. both lived on the ninth floor. the archdiocese of miami holding a vigil in a 2018 report, an engineer warned of major structural damage to the concrete below the old finding correct columns in the underground parking garage. but engineers found another document describing the overall concrete framing as being in good condition. >> there are so many things that could've contributed to the event. any one thing will be tough to pin down or eliminate. from the possibilities. >> reporter: concerns about the

this happened in gray whale cove state beach between montara and pacifica. cornell barnard spoke with emergency responders at the scene. >> it's crazy to hear someone was bit by a shark. >> reporter: a shark attack. posted sensei the beach is closed. first responders at 39-year-old surfer was bitten. >> the patient was bitten by smaller great white shark and able to swim to shore with assistance from bystanders where they pulled him onto the beach and able to start rendering care until first responders got there. >> reporter: this shows paramedics treating the victim. the chiefs of the shark but the surfer in the back of the leg causing a severe wound. >> they lost about a pint of blood and they were able to put a tourniquet on. >> reporter: the rescue is complicated because it was too fog and rescue helicopters couldn't land here. the victim had to be carried by paramedics up the steep stairway, then on to highway 1.

the san mateo sheriff's department estimates great white shark was about 6 to 8 feet in length. >> the surfer was able to get a look at it. >> reporter: some waded into the surf, but others were staying on dry land. >> it's terrifying. i have seen jaws. i know what they can do. it was pretty crazy. >> having a great time and there is a great white. definitely makes it more real when someone gets bit. >> reporter: the shark attack not keeping many out of the water here. authorities say shark attacks are rare but they urge caution for anyone going into the water off the san mateo county coast this weekend. >> i would not be going in the water the same day as that attack. hundreds of santa clara county front-line workers were honored at this weekend san

welcome back. here's a live look from our golden gate bridge camera. quiet on a sunday morning. 54 degrees right now in san francisco. east bay, two times, alameda county deputies have found themselves ambushed. the latest incident happened early yesterday in san lorenzo. >> reporter: the alameda county sheriffs departments responded to a domestic violence call at 120 a.m. deputies knocked on the door of a third floor unit at these

apartments along ashland avenue. they said a man answered the door and slammed it shut. >> he goes into the home, loads of a semiautomatic pistol, and returned and opens the door and begins to open fire on deputies. >> reporter: they fired back. the shares department said a 21- year-old retreated, then jumped from a third story window to escape, losing his weapon in the process. he then surrendered. >> this is the second shooting for us in the last couple of months where deputies have been ambushed, where the suspect has been lying in wait in the suspect has fired first in an attempt to kill deputies at close range. we are talking an arms length distance. something is going on in our communities with the amount of violence. a lot of it involves young people and young people being quick to pick up a firearm, shoot it other people, but more

concerning, shoot it law enforcement officers who were trying to do their jobs. >> reporter: the sheriff department said no one was injured in the shootout. the deputies on leave as is protocol. the suspect is in jail and will face three counts of attempted murder on a police officer. new developments for the scot peterson case. his lawyers are claiming juror misconduct in their quest to get a new trial. they say one of the jurors did not reveal she was beaten by her boyfriend while pregnant. peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and sentenced to death. the state supreme court overturned the sentence and prosecutors have said if there is a new trial, they will not seek the death penalty. albuquerque, new mexico, the deadliest balloon accident in five arafr the abs reporter reports.

>> they are on that side. they are on that side. i think they are on that side. >> reporter: the balloon just fell off. police in albuquerque responded to a hot air balloon accident saturday morning. >> we have a hot air balloon crash. >> reporter: after hitting a power line, the gondola detach from the balloon before crashing to the ground. >> great in the middle of the intersection. we have north and southbound lanes block. >> reporter: five were riding in the balloon. they died at the scene including the pilot. >> a tragic situation. the officers had a tough time when they saw what thesings e le wheney hapned. >> reporter: a fifth pethe hosp where they lar died power was knocked out to about 13,000 homes but has since been restored.

the balloon eventually landed in a nearby backyard. authorities say it's unclear what led to the crash. the faa and ntsb will join the investigation. two investigators on the way to the scene. >> in albuquerque, winds and k- cup or things happen that make it difficult for balloons to navigate. we are not sure of the cause at this point. the faa will look into it and determine what the cause was. fortunately, fatal accidents are pretty rare. sometimes there is a tragedy and that appears what happened today. the biggest active volcano in europe has erupted. mt. etna spewed ash and lava into the air. it lasted for a few hours and caused dust to rain on nearby towns. the volcano has been erupting with shorter intervals with lava fountains and ash lasting a few hours, but it's not known how long this will last and

what will come next. mt. etna is the largest of italy's largest volcanoes. we are getting a fresh look at the red planet. the china national space administration released this footage captured that country's mars probe it shows the lender deploying a parachute before touching down on the surface. china landed the spacecraft on mars for the first time in may. the country is the second to land and operate a spacecraft on mars following the u.s. an historic heat wave is sweeping over the pacific northwest. 24 million people in six states are under hate alerts with all- time record highs possible. today is expected to be the hottest in portland dabber with temperatures, 105 degrees. seattle could also see scorching temperatures up to 30 degrees above normal. usually during this time of year, washington and oregon see advertise in the 70s. lisa, we can't help but be

mid-50s in novato. 57, lafayette. we have the southwest wind up to 30 miles per hour by fairfield and that's an indication of the cooling that will affect inland valleys today. yesterday, it was warm out there, but today the numbers are coming down. live look outside. the sun ready to come up in another 30 minutes. the coastal drizzle this morning with the will to find tech of low clouds. retreats and we will get an afternoon sea breeze. several days of morning fog, afternoon sun, and breezy conditions. by tuesday, it looks like temperatures make spike again. we talked about the 108 record in portland. 115 today. seattle, 104. yesterday, sacramento in the triple digits but today into the mid-90s. it is not until nine monday that

temperatures these up a little bit. it's really tuesday that temperatures ease up here. they have another couple days of this excessive heat while we have advisories nearly county and mendocino county. the fog pulls back but we will see cloudy skies at the beaches today. very little change into monday afternoon. as we get into the winds, they will be breezy through the day today. 3:00, 30 to 35 miles per hour from east bay and livermore valley. by the early morning hours tomorrow, a bit of a light breeze out there and by late in the day, we are talking afternoon sea breeze. highs tomorrow, a couple of 90s inland. 60s and 70s across the bay. this is the day the numbers jump up a little and we lose the influence of a low offshore. we are back to the upper 90s.

welcome back. after more than 15 month pause because of the pandemic, a cruise ship has sailed out of an american port. celebrity edge left fort lauderdale last night. they will enjoy seven nights on the ship with stops in mexico in the bahamas. people are waiving. the ship is only 35% full. about 1% of the total passenger count is nonvaccinated including two adults and 24 children. vaccinated passengers did not have to wear a mask on board. researchers have discovered a possible link to the brain fog some covid-19 patients have experienced. working with the team in germany, they found inflammation caused similar to alzheimer's and parkinson's. david louie shows why the early research could lead to a possible treatment. >> reporter: it is well known the stress the covid-19 virus puts on the respiratory system.

now researchers have discovered how the virus appears to be inflaming the brains of patients who die from covid. researchers at stanford madison collaborated with counterparts at germany starlink university. an analysis a brain tissue showed inflammation that creates brain fog or cognitive decline. similar to symptoms of alzheimer's and parkinson's. >> i think it will be interesting and important to figure out whether this inflammation could actually be targeted or treated, and whether inflammatory treatments could help alleviate some of these symptoms. >> reporter: the inflammation is indicated by the brown marks in this illustration. that triggered the immune system to respond by sending a surge of t cells to fight the virus. the brain tissue showed no presence of the covid-19 virus, which stanford researchers can't fully explain. to the t cells destroy infected cells to respond to find no

take care of homeless people in a small environment. it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. the trick is to get your community and churches involved. this is the kitchen where we have a microwave, refrigeration, and a coffee pot. they can cook. this is where we washed the dishes and this is where we eat. we have a nice kitchen set up. every week, we assign new chores . cl cl toiletries or donations from the community. it is pretty amazing. we have touched at least 75 homeless people's lives and their are more than just the 75 we touch. we are an example of what can be. we went people to come in and
