the spirit of pride is alive. how this weekend's celebrations are bringing a needed boost to local businesses. authorities began identifying victims of the partially collapsed condo building in florida as the death toll rises to 5. details are coming up. good morning. thank you for joining us on june 27. you are watching abc7 news live on abc7, hulu live and wherever you stream. we will get to the latest on the condo collapse. first, let's get to lisa argen with a check of the local forecast.

>> you can see the fog behind you and that well-defined marine layer maintaining the cooling effect throughout the day today. it was hot inland yesterday, but notice the cloud cover along the coast from north to south. the golden gate bridge, socked in with fog. 55, san francisco. 59, mountain view. 60, san jose. gray skies and 53, santa rosa. 57, livermore. mist and drizzle at the shoreline. that he continues for lake and mendocino counties are cloverdale and lake port. anywhere from 102 to 110. 113 toward reading and red bluff. it's beautiful in the sierra nevada. back home, temperatures climbing through the 70s and 80s. only a few low 90s today. sunny skies bayside but the coast remains cool with cloudy skies.

ed for the first time since the pandemic, many lined up to celebrate differently, watching an lgbtq film. the pride celebration is helping many business owners recover from the pandemic. according to the castro merchant association, about 30 businesses had to shut down. >> there were about eight businesses that opened during the pandemic, and they are doing okay. we are asking all the neighbors and everyone to come and support them. >> reporter: and thankful for the influx of customers. >> we are getting fuel coming in here. >> reporter: that level of community support is what brought troy coleman back to san francisco this weekend. >> this is in honor of my husband who passed away in october. tonight, i am the widow sparkle. >> reporter: surrounded by friends, troy he decided this is how we wanted to celebrate his late husband during pride

weakened in the city. and the place where they went on their first date. >> pride is the biggest day of the year to us. it is our christmas, valentine's, every holiday rolled into one. a beloved annual san francisco summer tradition is celebrating pride. stern grove welcomes perfume genius who is headlining the concert with san francisco native honey mahogany hosting. doors open at noon with the show starting at 2:00. reservations are required and they are free. had to stern grove website to register. oakland is continuing the pride celebrations. yesterday queer businesses were featured and in expo. the indoor outer space was filled with vendors, merchants, and nonprofits that support lgbtq communities. organization is from oakland black pride see the goal is to bring people together after a tough pandemic year. >> it is reuniting our

communities with one another and an economic shot in the arm. reigniting the economy because we haven't been able to do this in a while. >> oakland black pride partnered with the parks and recreation department for several other events it will continue today including a queer kickball tournament and the slayers all. tickets are still available online. today's national hiv testing day. the oakland lgbtq community center set up prescreening salon with covid vaccines. attendees got the chance to learn more about a pilot program that was developed during the pandemic. it uses a smartphone app to connect patients with their health care team. you can find a collection of stories for pride month on the abc7 app available wherever you stream. developing news. a fifth body has been found in the rubble of the collapsed condo in florida. the remains are being sent to the medical examiner. authorities are gathering dna so

samples from family members to help identify them. 156 are still missing. we want to get back to faith abubey joining us live with the latest developments. good morning, faith. >> reporter: good morning. four days later the families are still waiting for answers about their family members. the weight has been slow and agonizing. the search crews are back there in the rubble trying to find signs of life and hope is driving the effort. more heartbreaking news from surfside, florida, where an apartment building collapsed. another body pulled from the wreckage. >> our top priority continues to be search and rescue and saving any lives we can. >> reporter:s say they found additional human remains, but rescue teams remain determined to find any signs of life in the debris, smoldering for days. workers battling fires and

heavy smoke. >> it is a lot to take in. the magnitude. the feeling when you are there. it is very quiet, but it is surreal. >> reporter: four victims identified including gladys and antenna go 79 and 83. both of them live on the ninth floor. the archdiocese of miami holding a vigil saturday night. in a 20 a team report, an engineer major structural damage also finding correct columns in the underground parking garage. engineers found another document with the city describing the overall concrete framing as being in good condition. >> there are so many things that could have contributed to the event that anyone thing will be tough to pin down. or eliminate completely from the possibilities. >> reporter: concerns about the sister condo building nearby. built by the same people at the

hospital after being attacked by a great white shark. it happened at great whale cove state beach between montero and pacifica. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard spoke with responders at the scene. >> it is crazy to hear someone got bit by a shark. >> reporter: beach-goers reacting. ache shark attack. posted sensei the beach is closed. first responders say a 39-year- old surfer was bitten. >> the patient was bitten by smaller great white shark and able to swim to store with assistance by bystanders where they pulled him onto the beach and able to start rendering care until first responders got there. >> reporter: paramedics on the beach treating the victim. the chief said the shark but the surfer in the back of the leg causing a severe wound. >> they lost about a pint of blood and they were able to put a tourniquet on. >> reporter: the rescue was complicated due to the fact it was foggy and rescue helicopters couldn't land at

the beach. the victim had to be carried up this steep stairway then on to highway 1, almost one mile. the sheriff's department estimates the great white shark was about 6 to 8 feet in length. >> the surfer was able to look at the shark and that's how he could identify it. >> reporter: some waded into the surf but others are staking on dry land. >> it is terrifying. i have seen jaws. i know what they can do. it's pretty crazy. >> having a good time and there's a great white. definitely makes it a little more real when someone gets bit. >> reporter: the shark attack not keeping many surfer out of the water. shark attacks are rare, but they urge caution for anyone going into the water off the san mateo coast. >> i will not be going in that water. front-line workers were honored at this week in san

three deputies knocked on the door of a third floor unit at these apartments along ashland avenue and now. they said a man answered the door and slammed it shut. >> he goes into the home, loads up a semiautomatic pistol, and returns and opens the door and begins to open fire on deputies. >> reporter: they fired back. the sheriff's department said a 21-year-old retreated, then jumped from a third story window to escape, losing his weapon in the process. he then surrendered. >> this is the second shooting cross in the last couple of months where deputies have been ambushed. the suspect has been lying in wait and the suspect has fired first in an attempt to kill deputies at close range. we are talking within an arms length distance. something is going on in our communities the amount of islands.

a lot of it involves young people and young people being quick to pick up a firearm, shoot at other people, but more concerning, shoot it law enforcement officers who are trying to do their jobs. >> reporter: the sheriff's department said no one was injured in the shoot out. the deputies on the as is protocol. the suspect is in the jail and will face three counts of attempted murder on a police officer. new developments with scott peterson case. his lawyers are claiming juror misconduct can request to get a new trial. they say one juror didn't reveal she was bitten by her boyfriend while pregnant. peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and sentenced to death. the state supreme court overturned the sentence and prosecutors have said if there's a new trial they will not seek the death penalty. police in albuquerque, new mexico, are investigating the deadliest balloon accident in the u.s. in five years. five died after the hot-air balloon crashed into powerlines.

>> they are on that side. they are on that side. i think they are on that side. the balloon fell off. >> reporter: police responded to a hot-air balloon accident early saturday morning. >> we have a hot-air balloon crashed. >> reporter: after hitting a power line and dragging along, the gondola detached before crashing to the ground. >> in the middle of the intersection. we have north and southbound lanes block. >> reporter: five people in the balloon. >> it's a traffic situation. officers had a tough time when they saw what they saw. these things are horrible when they happen. >> reporter: a fifth person was transported to the hospital where they later died. power was knocked out to about 13,000 homes but has since been restored. the balloon eventually landed in the nearby backyard. authorities say it's unclear

what led to the crash. the faa and ntsb will be joining the investigation two investigators on their way to the scene. >> in albuquerque, winds can kicked up and things happen that make it difficult for balloons to navigate. we aren't sure of the cause at this point. the faa will look into this and determine what the cause was. fatal accidents are pretty rare. sometimes there is tragedy that can occur and that appears to be what happened. the biggest active volcano in europe has erupted. the eruption of mt. etna spewed ashen love into the air. it lasted for a few hours and caused dust to rain on nearby towns. the volcano has been erupting with shorter intervals with lava fountains and ash testing a few hours. it's not known how long this pattern might last for what could come next. mt. etna is the largest of the

three active volcanoes. we are getting a fresh look at the red planet. the china national space administration just released this footage captured by their mars probe issues the lander deploying a parachute before touching down on the surface. china landed on mars for the first time in may. the country is the second to land and operate a spacecraft on mars after the u.s. it is always cool to see that. a historic heat wave is sweeping over the pacific northwest. 24 million people in six states under heat alerts with all-time record highs possible. yesterday, portland recorded its hottest day ever at 108 degrees. today the city could reach 112 degrees. seattle could see scorching temperatures up to 30 degrees above normal. wagton egsee average high's in the 70s. this is truly something and you

can't help but be scared by it. >> 101 yesterday in seattle. second all-time record and hotter today. it will stay hot on monday. we are looking at this heat wave to be longer and more intense than we even forecasted. this is something that is relating to climate change that we are witnessing right now close to home. we are being spared. we are on the periphery and low clouds and fog are allowing for breezy afternoon winds and a relief from the extreme heat. unfortunately, those to the north, several days under that heat to home. we will see the possibility of thunderstorms. tuesday and wednesday in the moving away, the clockwise flow could bring moisture and it will make the middle of the week interesting for the mountains as the heat begins to

fade. here is a look at the roof camera. 55 downtown. 60, san jose. upper 50s in morgan hill. east bay hills camera, a beautiful view. upper elevations in the 80s. 79, mt. tam. warmer air above. cool air at the surface creating the inversion. 57, novato. mist and drizzle on the coast. breezy winds, 38 miles per hour toward the delta. temperatures coming down maybe 5 degrees here. the winds already transporting some of that. a southerly wind will cool most of us up. walnut creek, a few clouds. coastal drizzle. not as hot inland. morning fog and afternoon sun for the next few days until we see the high fade away. before it does, it will give us a couple degrees of warming by tuesday.

after more than 15 will pause because of the pandemic, a cruise ship has sailed out of an american port. celebrity edge left fort lauderdale last night. passengers will enjoy seven nights with stops in mexico and the bahamas. the ship is 35% full. 1% of the total passenger are not vaccinated and that includes two adults and 24 children. vaccinated passengers do not have to wear a mask on board. researchers at stanford discovered a possible link to the brain fog that some covid- 19 patients have experienced. working with the team in germany, they found inflammation causes symptoms similar to alzheimer's and parkinson's. david louie shows why this early research could lead to a possible treatment.

>> reporter: is well-known the stress the covid-19 virus puts on the respiratory system. now researchers have discovered how the virus appears to be inflaming the brains of patients who die from covid. researchers at stanford medicine collaborator with counterparts in germany. an analysis a brain tissue from eight patients showed inflammation that creates brain fog or cognitive decline. similar to symptoms of alzheimer's and parkinson's. >> i think it will be interesting and important to figure out whether this inflammation could be targeted or treated and whether in inflammatory treatments could help alleviate some of these symptoms. >> reporter: the inflammation is indicated by the brown marks in this illustration. that triggered the body's immune system to respond by sending a surge of tea some. the brain tissue showed no presence of the covid-19 virus

the pandemic. the castro merchants association says about 30 businesses shut down in the last year. get wintry pride without drag icon juanita more pride party and it will be in person. we talked with juanita about what has become the most anticipated party of the year. >> reporter: your party is happening this year. how are you feeling about that? >> i am so thrilled. i generally start planning this party a year in advance. right after the last one. last year that didn't happen. i kept waiting to see if we would be able to do it. that didn't feel solid until about two months ago. that is when my team and i dove in and try to figure out how to make it work, halle follow the guidelines and make you feel safe. we have organized what i think will be a pretty amazing event. it also is a nonprofit event.

with that event and other events i put my heart into, over the past 30 years, we have raised over $900,000. i am super excited. >> reporter: that is incredible. >> very glad to see it happening. we posted the details about the pride party on abc7news.com. thousands took part in a pride march in mexico city. many wanted to honor those who died to violence and discrimination. some mexican states approve same sex mayor said less than a month ago but many other states have not taken steps in the same direction. and europe, thousands marched and danced during the pride parade in paris. last year's event was canceled because of the pandemic, but this year abel turned out, celebrating being together once again. dan harris is joining us

start getting involved. that is how much i love my town. >> ♪ >> my group puts themselves out there to help the people. that is pretty big. camp hope is a place where homeless people can come and have hope. they learn to be a family, they get to have manners again, how to get a job again. they have chores and responsibilities. they have a reason to wake up. they have hope. my goal is to let everybody know about our camp because you can take care of homeless people in a small environment. it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. the trick is to get the community and churches involved and it works well. this is a kitchenware we have microwave, refrigeration, and a coffee pot. they can cook.
