over the weekend, most of us were dealing with pretty intense temperatures out there. we will continue to see that. what we are lookintemperatures confused. there we go. i am seeing for us i. we have gusty winds up to 40 miles per hour. that is the seabreezes. you can see the cloud cover out there right now. there is some aggressive drizzle out there. i had to use the windshield wipers several times on the journey and. 60s along the coast in san francisco, 70s around the bacon 80s inland. you can see some 90s out there. the hottest temperatures are round lake park. we will talk about their heat advisory coming up. we are less than a week away from the fourth of july

holiday. many people are expected to travel and party in the week ahead. while covid numbers are down, doctors are warning unvaccinated people about getting together. we have a reporter live in walnut creek with wells needs to be cautious. >> reporter: good morning. they are expecting parks like this one to be more crowded this week as people gather around the grill to start celebrating summer and the fourth of july and have those family gatherings. doctors are saying if you're vaccinated, no problem. very young health officials are putting the warning out for those were not vaccinated, saying those people should not be celebrating with groups. they also warned that kids under 12 were not eligible for the vaccine should all be very careful over the holiday, the h, going so far as saying the kids should play outside if the adults are gathered inside. the delta variant is causing concern. unvaccinated people should sit this holiday out according to doctors. >> you don't want unvaccinated people congregating together in situations where rapid

transmission can occur. that has happened in the bay area. >> reporter: dr. rutherford tells us he does not expect to see a surge of cases from the holiday. the vaccination rate is so high in the bay area. he does want the unvaccinated people to protect themselves. they just really need to avoid large gatherings. recording live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. when it comes to the vaccination effort, the average number of doses administered per day has dipped under 100,000. the latest number from the state has it around 84,000. about 19 point 1 million californians are fully vaccinated against covid-19 this point. that is 58.5% of people who are eligible. another 3.3 million people are

partially vaccinated. if you would like to make an appointment, we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. employees have 30 days to report their vaccination status or risk losing their job. the policy requires the 35,000 employees to get vaccinated. workers who refuse or don't provide a religious or medical exemption could be terminated the mandate is to protect employees and the public as more people return to the workplace. san francisco was the first city in california to require vaccines for its employees. services at the san francisco superior court are returning to pre-pandemic level today with some modifications. social distancing rules will be dropped, but masks are still required. all in person services are going to resume. the superior court of alameda county is lifting mask requirements for people who are fully vaccinated. the eviction moratorium has been extended to september 30. california democrats are set to vote today on something

that would speed up the recall of gavin newsom. it would bypass the legislative review process. without the review, the lieutenant governor would be able to set the election date sooner, possibly as soon as mid- september. that is when county clerks say they would be ready. this will take care of with california democrats see as favorable conditions. republicans claim that they are reading the election in gavin newsom's favor. san francisco firefighters and police responded to reports of the car slamming into a building around 10:00 last night on randolph street in the ingleside heights neighborhood. you can see a car in what looks like a garage. there is no word on if anyone got hurt or the building itself is safe. we do have calls into the police department to get more details on what happened. search and rescue teams are working around the clock at the site of the collapsed florida condo building, hoping to find more victims.

they pulled four more bodies out of the rubble. another victim died at the hospital. the death toll is now at nine. 150 people are still missing this morning. >> is just devastating. of engineers are surfside to help the rescue mission, which is growing more desperate and dangerous by the hour. they are battling bad weather in small fires as they dig through the wreckage. 6 to 8 squads are working at a time digging a trench through the rubble, trying to get close to to any signs of life. family members are waiting for any updates about their loved ones. >> time is not on our side. we are looking and we are expecting and wishing and hoping for a miracle. >> reporter: we are also learning more about a 2018 report citing major structural damage to the concrete below the pool deck of the building, including failed waterproofing. the engineering firm behind the report tells the washington post nothing in that report raised a red flag. the firm also told the post the investigation into what caused the building to collapse could

uncover a perfect storm of failures. as concerns grow about the sister building nearby, the mayor of surfside is urging residents to evacuate. president biden is expected to release more information about airstrikes he ordered against iranian backed militia groups in the iraq-syria border. the strikes hit operational and weapons storage facilities last night. the sites were targeted because they are suspected of using drones to attack american forces in that area. the white house says acted within its legal rights and the airstrikes were matter of self-defense. people in the pacific northwest are waking up to another morning of extreme heat. in portland, temperatures could k teur 5 d

residents are lining up outside of hardware stores looking for air conditioners. most of them are walking away empty-handed. to make matters worse, thousands of people near seattle were without power over the weekend. >> the house is starting to heat up. it makes it pretty brutal to hang around without any power to run the ac anymore. i am not used to that out here. we don't get those kinds of temperatures. >> seven western states are included in this heat wave, including california. the extreme temperatures are expected of these through tomorrow. how would you like to set an all-time record high three days in a row? that is what is possible in portland. here's where you add insult to injury. you have temperatures during the overnight hours, let's go to the current temperatures.

i was trying to load the current temperatures. they are still in the 80s. they are not cooling off at night. the 115 at portland would be a third all-time consecutive record high. some heat is going to escape. 80s and 90s in seattle and portland. we are dealing with a lot of 100s. it is up in the north bay. it will be a slight area that would really feel the heat. it is still in lake county until 9:00 tomorrow evening. we have the heat advisory, heat illness possible, 97 to 105. for the rest of us, you cannot even see the east bay hills. a ton of drizzle following their. watch out. it could be slippery through the morning commute and across several of our bridges. we will happy breezy ferry ride during the afternoon hours. it is very clean air, moderate at least through wednesday. take a look at temperatures around san francisco, 53 to 55. all of us are in the mid-50s. 60 at santa clara, 61 saratoga. this is an area, south beach, as we look towards the bay bridge, that has a lot of drizzle. temperatures remain in the 50s through 7:00. and you will have the lower 60s while the rest of us hit the 70s, 80s, and even if you 90s.

new details this morning. a man is recovering from a shark attack. he survived. it happened saturday. he was surfing off the coast of gray whale cove state each. we found other surfers who say they have proof great whites are in our coastal waters. >> reporter: surfer benjamin holmes shows us drone footage he shot on june 11 of what he believes is a great white shark. a shark attack happened on saturday. >> we are heading out. we might have saved the guy by fishing.

>> reporter: he was fishing at gray whale cove on saturday when he heard a man in the surf calling for help. >> he motioned like this to come. as soon as he realized i saw him, he collapsed to the ground. >> reporter: the san mateo fire department said the 39-year-old man was like the surfing was attacked by a young great white shark, 6 to 8 feet long. >> there was a lot of plug blood. >> reporter: this man jumped into action, using the straps on his backpack to stop the bleeding. >> likely the straps detach from here. i was unable, able to stop them through clipping the. >> reporter: they treated the victim before he was taken to the hospital. the man stayed calm. >> it was crazy haakon the victim was. i was more panicked than him. >> reporter: first responders say that man was lucky. shark attacks aware, serious events. sharks are more curious than

a summer spread today of 60s along the coast and 90s inland. we will bump up the highs a little today and a little more tomorrow. then we pull them back to seasonal temperature levels as we head through the extended forecast. and the same kind of cloud cover. let's take a look at the fog casts. all of us will be covered by clouds during the morning hours. my lunch hour, they are back at the coast. in the north coast, we will see the greatest amount of sunshine and the fastest breezes today. some of those breezes will come through golden gate and head into the delta during the afternoon hours. as temperatures in south bay, 80 at san jose, 88 at morgan hill. how about some mid to upper 70s for most of the peninsula? we will have low to even a few mid-60s along the peninsula coast. on the bayside, downtown, mid to upper 60s. with that, a little bit of sunshine along the north bay coast. mid to upper 60s for you. everybody else is in the 80s in the north bay. we have the mid to upper 90s in some of our hottest spots. 69 berkeley, everyone else low to mid 70s. as you had inland, it will be pretty hot through the delta,

150 people are still missing this morning. officials have confirmed that n accounted for arrived the site they privately prayed and held vigils for their missing loved ones and saw the destruction of closed for the first time. a state of emergency has been declared by local officials. that will allow the city to seek reimbursement for emergency related expenses. as concerns grow about the nearby sister building, the mayor of surfside is urging those residents to evacuate. families are desperately waiting for answers. one family fears they lost five of their loved ones. families are being asked for dna samples to help with the i.d. process. >> reporter: they are also being asked to send unique characteristics like tattoos or scars. eight victims have been identified so far. officials used dna to confirm two of their loved ones were

killed in the collapse. three other members of their family have not been found yet. >> he could have moved. i know for sure that when the alarm went off, she ran to him. she was with him. they were together. >> reporter: many are hanging pictures of those still missing on a fence one man is holding out hope for his grandparents, who lived on the third floor. in the hours after the collapse, his family received 16 phone calls from his grandparents, only to pick up and hear static on the other end. florida governor ron desantis says a lot of debris from the site will be moved to a warehouse, where investigators will look at the forensics to figure out what happened. >> thank you. in the east bay, we are expected to hear from the oakland police chief today after last week's city council vote to divert

from the budget. in a 7-2 vote, the council diverted nearly $18 million away from the police budget towards other violence pension programs. oakland's mayor opposed that moved. oakland could lose 50 police officer positions at a time when violence is spiking. the city has 714 officers. the mayor's office has warned that 911 response times will suffer. supporters are saying the city needs to invest in other nonpolice programs like the department of violence prevention. new banners have gone up over international boulevard with a timely message for residents. artists are so writing the message of peace. 250 banners will be put up from 1st avenue near lake merritt to the entire length of oakland's main drag. people are alarmed of violent crime in east oakland. >> the banners that you see are

done by students. it is done by victims of gun violence. it is done by community activists. everyone wants peace. everyone has a vision of what peace looks like. >> funding was provided by the city and community groups. oakland's new mental health response program could get a financial boost. nancy skinner is proposing a state budget amendment that would allocate an additional $10 million to the macro program. that is the program that the city is forming to send a nonpolice response to nonviolent mental health calls. if the funding is approved, it would be adding to the $6.5 million allocated in the latest city budget, which would give macro $16.5 million. more california students will be admitted to three university of california campuses under a new state budget plan. it calls for reducing non- california residents students at cal berkeley, ucla, and uc san diego starting in the fall of 2022.

that will be in effect for five years. more than 4500 california students would benefit from this plan. the state legislature is set to vote on the budget later today. there is a pilot program being considered to help homeless people living in their cars. the council is looking at opening a city-owned site with room for up to 50 vehicles on the west side of town. it is similar to a program in palo alto. people are living in as many as 330 cars and rvs around the city. if approved, it would cost about $1 million and take six months to get up and running. fire crews are making headway in the fight against the willow fire, which is burning east of big sur. it is 73% contained. this fire started 10 days ago and has burned 2900 acres. an evacuation order and warnings are still in effect around the area. full containment is expected by

okay, she is listening. that is awesome. she always tells me keep doing the pollen count. it bothers some of us. tree pollen is low and is going to be low, along with weed, grass, and more the. the only thing of concern will be the uv index. hopefully that is it for now. let's take a look at some temperatures. we have mid to upper 50s through most of the tri-valley, a few low to mid 60s. already 8/100 of an inch of drizzle. mid to upper 50s just about everywhere. san jose is about 60 degrees. but see how today unfolds by looking at san jose. we will stay in the mid to upper 50s through 7:00. we will be in the upper 50s to low 60s the rest of the day at the coast. we will go from 70 to 75 around the bay with increasing sunshine.

fish and wildlife officers were notified. they found the bear the next day, badly wounded. officers had to euthanize it. there sightings are not uncommon. they are finding out-of-towners. >> visitors leave their trash about. the bears feel comfortable enough to come onto the streets here. >> you have to keep the trash safe, the doors locked, and not feed these guys. >> after investigating this incident, the sheriff says the homeowner acted legally when shooting the bear. the woman on the left, right there, who caused this massive pile up at the tour de france is wanted by police. a cardboard sign she was holding on saturday hit a german rider who went down. that caused a domino effect. police say the woman left the scene, has not been located. tour de france officials have lodged a complaint
