must have been, with what your family has been through. i am happy for you. >> it was warm and loving. >> i enjoyed your pictures on instagram, too. everybody is happy. that is good. let's keep going. i will use that same shot. those clouds below it, there is a lot of drizzle around this morning and some gusty breezes through the delta. if you are coming in from fairfield, you are driving into the teeth of that wind. in some of our outlying areas like antioch and up towards lakeport, away from the ocean in the seabreeze, you are in the mid to upper 90s while the rest of us are in the 70s and 80s today. san francisco firefighters and police responded to reports of a car that slammed into a building. this happened around 10:00 last night on randolph street in the ingleside heights neighborhood. you can see a car in what looks like a garage. there is no word on if anyone got hurt or the building itself is safe. we do have calls into the

police department to get more details on what happened. we are less thanaway from t holiday. many people are expected to travel and party in the week ahead. doctors are warning about unvaccinated people getting together. amy hollyfield is joining us life in walnut creek with wells needs to be cautious. >> reporter: good morning. doctors say it is great to congregate if you are vaccinated. those who are not vaccinated should skip the gatherings this year. they should not be around a lot of people.

kids should also playe not vacc with the delta variant causing concern, unvaccinated people should sit this holiday out. >> you don't want unvaccinated people congregating together in situations where rapid transmission can occur. that has happened in the bay area. >> reporter: dr. rutherford tells us he does not expect to see a surge of cases from the holiday. the vaccination rate is so high in the bay area. he does want the unvaccinated people to protect themselves. they just really need to avoid large gatherings. recording live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. san francisco city employees have 30 days to report their vaccination status or risk losing their job. the policy requires the 35,000 employees to get vaccinated. workers who refuse or don't provide a religious or medical exemption could be terminated.

employees and the public as more people return to the workplace. san francisco is the first city in california to require vaccines for its employees. search and rescue teams are working around the clock at the side of the collapse of the florida condo building, hoping to find more victims. they pulled four more bodies out of the rubble. another victim died at the hospital. the death toll is now at nine. 150 people are still missing this morning. members of the army corps of engineers are at surfside to help the rescue mission, which is growing more desperate and dangerous by the hour. they are battling bad weather and small fires as they dig through the wreckagesquads are g time digging a tren trubbletrngs toare wafor y updates about the ones. >> time is not on our side. we are looking and we are expecting and wishing and hoping for a miracle.

>> reporter: we are also learning more about a 2018 report citing major structural damage to the concrete below the pool deck of the building, including failed waterproofing. the engineering firm behind the report tells the washington post nothing in that report raised a red flag. the firm also told the post the investigation into what caused the building to collapse could uncover a perfect storm of failures. as concerns grow about the sister building nearby, the mayor of surfside is urging residents to evacuate. california democrats are said to vote today on a plan that would speed up the recall of governor newsom. it would bypass the legislative review process. without the review, the lieutenant governor would be able to set the electi that is when county clerks say they would be ready. this will take care of what california democrats see as favorable conditions. republicans claim that they are

rigging the election in gavin newsom's favor. video is showing newly ordered drone strikes from president biden against iranian militia groups. the strikes hit operational and weapons storage facilities last night. the sites were targeted because they are suspected of using drones to attack american forces in that area. president biden is expected to give a detailed update later today. the white house says the u.s. acted within its legal rights and the airstrikes were a matter of self-defense. many are questioning the dramatic weight loss of kim jong-un today. on the left, video from april. on the right, video from this month. officials have not acknowledged any changes to his weight or health. the country could be trying to sell people on the idea that he

outdoors. >> that man is not alone. the historic heat wave is really consuming the entire pacific northwest. parts of washington state and oregon have been roasting under record heat in the triple digits. air conditioning is not common. we can relate to this. this kind of heat is not usual in this part of the country. people are searching for relief wherever they can find it. >> we always save this for really hot days. there are 150 on the patio. the concert venue has air conditioning, too. >> look at this. even the ice and snow atop mount rainier in washington is melting. the 14,000 point peak, still unable to escape this intense heat. >> mudslides might be possible with the rapidly would melting snow up there. you're looking at the

temperatures right now and you are thinking that is pretty comfortable. but not when you are dealing with 100 degree temperatures during the daylight and cannot cool down because temperatures are still in the mid to upper 70s. you add in the fact that it is record heat, all-time record heat, and this will be the third consecutive heat of all- time record heat in portland, with 115. you can see breaks a little bit, finally falling back into the 80s on wednesday. the overnight temperatures is when they will feel the relief with those 50s. look at how low and oppressive the marine layer is. if a lot of drizzle out there this morning. a ioad can a little breezy through the delta this afternoon. for mass transit, it will be a huge summer spread. air quality will be good to moderate all the way through wednesday. temperatures are running in the

today. we will warm up a couple of degrees. we will have seasonal cloud patterns and temperatures. take a look at that cloud pattern for today. here is a look at your fog forecast. the fastest winds will be along the north bay coast. you will see the least amount on the north bay coast for sunshine. it will be hottest far away from the water. morgan hill and gilroy will be in the upper 80s. 70 in san bruno, everyone else mid to upper 70s on the peninsula. look at these mid to low 60s on the course. and then you see the north bay coast. 78 alejo, 80s for the rest of the north bay. along the east bay, 70 to 77 degrees. and then out in the delta, we have some low to mid 90s, some

lves evedy else. amy hollyfield is life in walnut creek with this advice. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. doctors are saying that this is the first fourth of july since the pandemic hit, that most people can gather around the barbecue and have that fun family gathering for the fourth of july. that is if you are vaccinated. area health officials are warning people who are not vaccinated that they need to avoid the large gatherings this holiday. doctors are worried rapid transmission could occur in a situation like that among the unvaccinated. they say kids who are too young to be vaccinated, they too need to be careful. maybe play outside while the adults are gathering inside. >> if you are indoors, they are congregating indoors, that

declared by local officials. that will allow the city to seek reimbursement for emergency related expenses. as concerns grow about the nearby sister building, the mayor of surfside is urging those residents to evacuate. families are desperately waiting for answers. one family fears they lost five of their loved ones. families are being asked for dna samples to help with the i.d. process. >> reporter: they are also being asked to send unique characteristics like tattoos or scars. authorities have released the names of eight victims so far. one person says officials used dna to confirm two of their loved ones were killed in the collapse. three other members of their family have not been found yet. >> one person had muscular dystrophy. he could t move. for sure that wh t r:many are hanging wer pictures of those still missing on a fence near the site. one man is holding out hope for his grandparents, who lived on the third floor.

in the hours after the collapse, his family received 16 phone calls from his grandparents, only to pick up and hear static on the other end. florida governor ron desantis says a lot of debris from the site will be moved to a warehouse, where investigators will look at the forensics to figure out what happened. >> thank you. in the east bay, we are expected to hear from the oakland police chief today after last week's city council vote to divert millions away from the budget. in a 7-2 vote, the council diverted nearly $18 million away from the police budget and towards other violence prevention programs. oakland's mayor opposed that move. oakland could lose 50 police officer positions at a time when violence is spiking. the city has 714 officers. the mayor's office has warned that 911 response times will suffer. supporters are saying the city

needs to invest in other nonpolice programs like the department of violence prevention. new banners have gone up over international boulevard in oakland with a timely message for residents. artists are writing the message of peace. 250 banners will be put up from 1st avenue near lake merritt to the entire length of oakland's main drag. people are alarmed by the rise of violent crime in east oakland. >> the banners that you see are done by students. it is done by victims of gun violence. it is done by community activists. everyone wants peace. everyone has a vision of what peace looks like. >> funding was provided by the city and community groups. oakland's new mental health response program could get a financial boost. state senator nancy skinner is proposing a state budget amendment that would allocate an additional $10 million to the macro program. that is the program that the city is forming to send a

nonpolice response to nonviolent mental health calls. if the funding is approved, it would be adding to the $6.5 million allocated in the latest city budget, which would give macro $16.5 million. new details on a trend in san francisco. the chronicle is reporting that data shows a 750% increase in car break-ins in the central district from last may to this may. the central district is home to seven of the city's top tourist attractions, including fisherman chinatown. just three days ago, we saw multiple cars with their windows being smashed in a parking lot. police are focusing on stopping these break-ins. they have increased the number of officers on foot patrols in those heavy tourist areas.

santa rosa is considering a pilot program to help homeless people living in their cars. the council is looking at opening a city-owned site with room for up to 50 vehicles on the west side of town. it is similar to a program in palo alto. people are living in as many as 330 cars and rvs around the city. if approved, it would cost about $1 million and take six months to get up and running. more california students will be admitted to three university of california campuses under a new state budget plan. it calls for reducing non- california residents students at cal berkeley, ucla, and uc san diego starting in the fall of 2022. that will be in effect for five years. more than 4500 california students would benefit from this plan. the state legislature is set to vote on the budget later today. overhaul at the office, wendy san francisco company thinks the future will look like where you work. they don't really want to

shot a bear in self-defense. the whole thing happened thursday night in el dorado county. the local sheriff says after the man shot the bear, the bear ran back out in the wilderness. fish and wildlife officers were notified. they found the bear the next day, badly wounded. officers had to euthanize it. bear sightings are not uncommon. they are blaming out-of- towners. >> visitors leave their trash about. the bears feel comfortable enough to come onto the streets here. >> you have to keep the trash safe, the doors locked, and not feed these guys. >> after investigating this incident, the sheriff says the homeowner acted legally when shooting the bear. new this morning, a two- week lockdown went into effect in sydney, australia. already people are breaking the rules. crowds of people were at the beach despite a cluster of delta covid-19 variant growing to 110 cases.

least 1200 acres. the shelf fire started yesterday afternoon. flames are burning close to traffic along a stretch of the freeway. it is 2% contained. the cause is under investigation. fire crews are making headway in the fight against the willow fire. it is now 73% contained. this fire started 10 days ago and has burned 2900 acres. an evacuation order and warnings are still in effect around the area. full containment is expected by july 11. right now viral video of a hotshot who battled the willow fire has become a symbol of the impending fire season. this is captain justin grunewald , taking a break in big sur. just by looking at this picture, you can see the exhaustion that comes with battling these wildfires. it is a sobering reminder that fire season is only just beginning. >> this image resonates with
