the women or men who come forward with their truth. >> as you heard, these women have been in contact are they with each other. they were so surprised because they did not expect the pennsylvania supreme court to act so quickly. they say the fight continues to encourage women to not be afraid to come forward in any rate or sexual assault case. >> leanne, thank you so much. the decision was shocking and for good reason. is unprecedented. a former prosecutor spoke with us. >> this is truly unprecedented and not something anyone has ever seen or frankly anyone in the legal field expected. the two parts of the fifth amendment privilege against self-incrimination. obviously, bill cosby has a right to remain silent not to incriminate himself. essentially, the court said when the district attorney said he wouldn't be prosecuted, he no longer had the fifth amendment privilege and he had to testify in that civil case. when a new district attorney decided to prosecute him, it was essentially a bait and

switch. the court went farther than that. they didn't say those statements in the civil case are inadmissible but you can retry bill cosby you actually have a deal here. a deal not to prosecute bill cosby. that is normally not something you see. if you have a deal that is a plea agreement, a nonprosecution agreement or immunity, oppress release has never been an agreement for the purposes of criminal prosecution. >> the news about bill cosby broke before midday live newscast. we ask what your strongest feeling is about it most people voted for angry followed by disgusted. >> hate crimes in california have increased by nearly 1/3. the news was announced by attorney general rob bonta in oakland. today's news comes shortly after the fbi's criminal investigative division announced it is elevating civil rights violations which include hate crimes to its highest level

making sure people feel safe about that so they can come out of the shadow to report hate crimes will be incredibly important. >> if you are facing a hate crime in your the the sum of a crime, please come forward. there are solutions. >> he pledged more resources including greater outreach to the public and law enforcement and prosecutors on laws and penalties related to hate crimes. >> attorney general bonta's commitment to more resources to hate crimes comes as cities like oakland are struggling to improve their police response to. >> we will work with local law enforcement. the law enforcement is fully capable of addressing hate crimes. >> this woman was the victim of three robberies in oakland in one month. now, she volunteers for the chinatown safety patrol. >> a lot of seniors live around here. they live alone. they have a language barrier.

homes continue to fly off the market. more than 100 companies are renewing lease agreements. is the city bouncing back? stephanie sierra is checking the latest data. she is live in the newsroom with the latest look. >> it is not just homes flying off the market. the city has seen an 80% spike in demands for rentals over the past six months. that is along with dozens of major companies returning to the office. strong sign our economy is starting to bounce back. >> from erie goes down to a san francisco that is starting to feel alive again. >> real estate agents are seeing the impacts firsthand. >> the housing market was always heating up in san francisco but they say the rental market, which dipped during the pandemic is starting to catch up. >> rentals were sitting on the market for a long time. on average at least one month or two.

systems. it is the low pressure system dropping into the pacific northwest that is replacing the very hot air mass that brought record heat. what we can expect on this alignment is a record heat retreat. onshore breeze is will bring a cooling effect and there will be no extreme weather over the next several days. this is the view at the golden gate is the marine layer gets deeper and deeper. it moves out over the bay by an onshore flow -- according onshore flow. overnight we'll see it continuing to push out over the bay. we expect commuters to be greeted by maybe a few wet spots on the roadways. not a good thing but evidence of the cooling effect of the marine layer. here is a quick look at the 7- day forecast. you can see although there will be a slight increase in temperatures here and there nothing extreme, nothing terribly hot. for the next few days we expect mild weather with no increase and fire concerns. >> thank you, spencer. the holiday weekend is near and bay area experts bracing

summer months. what we are looking at is another busy fire season. that is a direct result of the lack of rain we got in the wintertime in the amount of available fuel that is out resulting in the drought we had over the last 10-15 years. those two contributing factors are big part of what we are looking at for a busy and potentially dangerous fire season. >> it is something we have seen an increase over the last 10 years and it is something we need to live with and be prepared for. >> with more and bigger wildfires happening, cal fire is developing new innovative ways to fight fires. >> some of the new technology we are able to use to predict the fire growth and be able to use the technology to better distribute our >> the reds about 1000 acre fire. if an ignition occurs in the

area. with wildfire analyst enterprises they were able to bring a lot of the elements into a lot of technology that happened in cal fire. some of the stuff we had of doing is we california. what the program does is it overlays millions of potential ignitions across california and tells us what the potential is for a fire in the area. it was everybody on the same picture. the engine or the incident command going to the fire we can actually run simulations before it gets there. have an idea of what the fire will do before he gets there and they can start looking out eight hours ahead of time and it gives them the idea about needing to order resources sooner. one of the layersthe layersthe s
