deploying a strike team to the lava fire today. san francisco firefighters are also heading to the salt fire. you can follow fires statewide with our fire tracker. it is updated with the latest information from cal fire checking to see where fires are spreading and the acres contained. that is available now at abc7news.com and our abc 7 news at. president biden says sonoma county will be getting a $37 million immigrant to help write wildfires. this came during a virtual meeting with governors in western states about the 2021 wildfire season. the president announced plans to raise federal firefighter pay to at least $15 an hour and they are also no plans for satellites to improve early detection and apps to better inform you of fire danger. >> we are playing catch-up. this is an area that has been under resourced but that will change if we have anything to do about it. we cannot cut corners when it comes to managing our wildfires

supporting our firefighters. >> more the 2300 square miles have burned across the west so far this year. >> pg&e proposing another rate increase. it would take affected 2023. the utility says it needs the funding for safeguarding the power grid against wildfires. if approved by the california public utilities commission, it would increase current rates by 18%. pg&e says the average residential customer would pay an annual increase of 5% through 2026. the utility says it amounts to about one dollar per day increase for most households. >> local officials are pleading with you to not set off illegal fireworks this holiday weekend. there is a lot of concern about the fires. of course with the dry conditions we are seeing right now, abc 7 news reporter joining us with what could get happen if you get caught . >> good morning. there are some new penalties that will be levied for people who get caught. we are appear looking over san jose.

this is a good spot to come out on the fourth of july to watch all the fireworks in the region. most of those sanctioned events but likely people also setting off fireworks from their backyard which is illegal in san jose and most of california for that matter but it is something fire crews are really hoping to crack down on this year. here in san jose, they say it is very dry out which is obvious from just looking at the hills it is even drier than it normally is this time of year with fuel moisture is at levels typically seen later in the summer. last year firefighters said 30 preventable fireworks related fires were set in san jose alone and this year they worry that trend could continue as people look to celebrate after a difficult year. that is why they are implementing this so-called social host fireworks ordinance which holds property owners financially liable for the illegal use of fireworks on the properties. violators could be on the hook for thousands of dollars to cover the cost of damage to neighboring properties and even if there isn't significant

officer being called a hero after helping to save a woman from a house fire. these voters should by the san jose police department are capturing the moment officer chris reed and other officers arrived along avenue tuesday morning. they found a raging fire and a woman who was unrespwas unrespwp officer read took turns during cpr with other officers until ems can take over. he had only been on the job for seven days and was still in training. >> i trusted what we were trained to do was going to work and we kept doing it and they finally got a pulse spread before we handed her over. >> if they had not known she was there, if they had not started cpr, after about two minutes of no oxygen going to the brain, the brain starts to die. >> the woman's pulse did return although we don't know her current condition. the cause of the fire is under investigation. the san francisco police department working to tackle a troubling trend in car break- ins. officers spent time heading out flyers reminding drivers to take their valuables with them. the chronicle reports there has been a 753% increase in car break-ins in the central
