after pausing for the pandemic, san francisco revives itself in time for the fourth of july. with old favorites, we are seeing some old problems. a good evening. thank you for joining us. your watching abc7 news at 6:00 live here and whatever you stream. we are happy to report on economic recoveries in the bay area because they are a part of building a better bay area. that is a spectators are expected to flock to san francisco this weekend but is the city ready to handle it? cornell bernard is live along the embarcadero with the story tonight. cornell? >> reporter: hey, dan. the waterfront is definitely reopening. this weekend the city will put on the first fireworks show in two years. with so many car break-ins, it is a problem in the city. is the city ready to handle the big crowds? one family we talked to today says they are not so surso sursr >> a big deal. a huge deal. >> the original experiences back. orord reopens to the general public thursday. the u.s.s. jeremiah o'brien is also reopened for tourists at fisherman's wharf with more tourists out and about. >> san francisco has really suffered during the pandemic

like her. there is a lot of talk about this but is the city really doing anything about it? >> dan, it is complicated. that is pretty much the line. the police department says they are understaffed and don't have the resources to stop car break- ins. the fisherman's wharf business association, we spoke with them today. they say they are in meetings with the police department to come up with a plan to keep visitors and their cars safe. no details on the plan but they say they are working on it. we will see what happens. >> complicated but incredibly frustrating. thank you so much. healthcare providers are preparing for a busy weekend.bue the consumer product safety commission released a report saying fireworks related injuries and deaths jumped doing the pandemic.ndemic.ndemi. chris nguyen found their concern and this year's numbers could go higher. for mac as bay area families

prepare to celebrate the fourth of july holiday, healthcare providers are bracing for a possible uptick in fireworks related injuries. >> dr. yvonne grannis, director of the regional bububububu san jose says her team is staffed up ahead of the weekend. with more people hosting backyard gatherings, she says some may be tempted to illegal fireworks potentially putting friends and loved ones at risk. >> every year we see patients who parents didn't know a sparkler was so dangerous. >> she is also chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery and said she has seen too many people come into the e.r with preventable injuries. >> there is nothing fun about a stay in the burn unit are i injuries or permanent permanentt loss or disfigurement.

area and find similar differences. >> often, the dividing line is as clear as if freeway. in oakland we started in a diverse predominately lift light neighborhood and watched as tree cover steadily gave way to lush green yards as we passed under interstate 580 toward statistically wider neighborhoods near the oakland hills. that is where we launched drone view seven to survey the distance. side-by-side the disparity is obvious. >> in central san jose you will see the same patterns in reverse as you pass over highway 101 into less affluent neighborhoods like the street on the right. or, you could cruise leafy university avenue in palo alto also passed 101 into the sparser blocks of east palo alto. researchers like dr. laura feinstein the nonprofit say when it comes to trees the roots of the disparity stretch back decades. >> there were a lot of factors

a bay area rocket company went public hoping a wider range of investors will join its quest. astra wants to lower the cost to send up more satellites to pursue important missions. david louis gives us an inside look. >> july could be a big month for jeff bezos and richard branson as they aim to launch civilians into space. there is also a company called astra that has a lofty mission. it is aiming lower building rocket systems to build small satellites in low earth orbit

more fourth of july july ju fireworks. san francisco is holding its fourth of july fireworks show pier 39. it will start around 9:30. they are adding extra service to help people come in from the city. the fireworks are plans to end at 10:00 p.m. art will add special event trains that will embark -- the part only the embarcadero train station at 10:00 p.m. they will offer late-night service between separate cisco and the south bay. they will be offering late- night service the oakland and vallejo routes. however, parts will not offer special event service at the oakland coliseum for the ace postgame fireworks show tomorrow night. they are suspending ticket sales for the game.
