variant. have you heard about the new mutation? >> have you heard about the delta plus? >> what is the difference between the delta and delta plus? >> the delta variant has 18 mutations and seven of them are in despite protein. the delta plus variant has an additional mutation and spike with some are saying is resulting in increased transmissibility. butt last week he met with 50 scientists to understand how the variant is morphing into new strains like delta plus pick >> it is mutating compared to other viruses incredibly quickly. i think a big part of that is because there is a significant percentage of people that get infected that are asymptomatic.

that point. also we need to remind people the vaccines we have right now are doing their job beautifully. >> we have uplifted our spirits with people getting out more. are we at a point where we should think about putting masks back on in california? >> i think it is very difficult to make a generalization there. i feel for larger instances where we try to figure out how to mitigate risk, it's basically on the honor system. i understand by businesses are saying put a mask on. you're pretty well protected not only from getting severely ill but from transmitting the virus. if you are with a lot of people and traveling, people at home that aren't quite vaccinated, it's a good idea to keep a mask just in case. >> a lot of people got together on the fourth of july and

it is time now for the four. it didn't look like the warnings have stopped people from setting off fireworks. you can see the fireworks going off in many neighborhoods. residence in san francisco and san jose could hear the fireworks going off late into the night. contra costa fire district responded to 53 grass and exterior fires. oakland responder to 61 fire related calls. the good news is that there was no catastrophe. we were talking earlier. people just will not heed the warnings. >> i don't even know what to say anymore about people behaving badly. i didn't leave the station
