bay, you can see not a cloud in sight and it is scorching hot. good evening, thank you for joining us. i am dion lim. you are watching abc7 news at 6:00 right here on abc7, who live and whatever you stream . check it out, this was the scene from our beach cameras this afternoon. lots of people on the stand. the temperature there, just about 80 degrees. abc7 was also at the mall in milpitas , where some people decided going to the movies was the best way to beat the heat. we did not see a huge crowd, but the lines were pretty steady. it is opening weekend for disney and marvel's "black widow ." to put it into perspective, not too bad, considering some places well over 100 degrees. how long will these heat left? >> our hottest spots exceeded 105, some areas exceeded 110 degrees. away from the coast, it was dangerously hot this afternoon. it is 106 right now in

brentwood, 102 in concord, 99 in livermore into the north bay, 108 in cloverdale. that coastline is much more cooler. some excessive heat warnings in effect for much of the region shaded in pink. this will continue for many of us tomorrow as well in our hottest inland city dealt with a heat advisory in effect for parts of the north bay and south bay where temperatures warmed into the 90s in many cities. we are back on air for abc7 at 11:00 tonight and we will still have cities in the 70s and 80s. tomorrow is another hot day . another day in this heat wave, we will let you know when that heat will finally give us a break in the accuweather forecast in just a few minutes. because of the heat, we are asked to conserve power during the heat wave. a flex alert is in alert for the second straight day. you can see the state's power

armstrong. earlier, that she posted this rally at lake mary, calling for gun violence to stop. >> today is about saving lives, standing up and sticking our voice. today is nehbve their own ideas safety. >> but about the national guard helping, is that too much? >> i think the community is the national guard for me. >> reporter: the chief calling on community neighbors to play a role in crime. this is the city report 70 homicides so far this year. the city recovered from a fatal fourth of july holiday weekend with fatal shootings, illegal fireworks and a sideshow involving cars wears a spectator was injured. faith leaders urged many not to stay silent. >> reporter: statement >> it is time for us to stop hiding behind, lord god, i did not see nothing, i don't know

nothing! it is not my problem anymore! >> reporter: but some neighbors say it is everyone's problem. >> this is out of hand because the people are living out of hand. it is not the police fault. if you see something happening in the neighborhood, call the police. >> reporter: about 200 people came out for this community event. not everyone who showed up appreciated the message. anti-police protesters showed up and try to disrupt the event. last month, the oakland city council voted to do for about $18 million from the police department's budget. >> this is not about politics. this is about saving lives. >> reporter: small town hall meetings will be held this summer around oakland, talking safety and crime prevention. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> community groups also rallied in oakland show solidarity with the city's investment in violence prevention. a caravan of cars gathered at lake merritt to travel to laurel park for a community

advocate. organizers are celebrating a shift to community resources after years of campaigning here at one oakland city council members as they are not trying to defund the police. >> there is nothing further from the truth. opd is $38.5 million more enriched this year that the previous fiscal budget cycle. >> oakland city council has diverted $18 million from the police budget to previously underfunded areas. a vaccination clinic in san jose today focused on the deaf community. the deaf counseling advocacy and referral agency hosted the event, one of the first deaf run nonprofits in the country. the visor at johnson & johnson vaccines were available today. organizers say many in the deaf community found the state's website confusing. the pop up included interpreters to information about the vaccines. >> we can see people face-to- face in the deaf community just feels a lot more of a

connection to be able to come in and ask questions and touch base, maybe talk about some frustrations. we can always call in on video, but in-person, it is really a great way for deaf people to communicate. statement a second clinic for the deaf community will take place july 24th in santa rosa. california's vaccination pace has slowed down substantially. the current average is about 59,000 administered per day. over 20.4 million californians are fully vaccinated. about 60% of the eligible fox population and just under 3.2 million people are partially vaccinated. developing news now out of the sierra, where firefighters are struggling to get a handle on what is now the largest wildfire in the state. the complex is in plumas county and has grown now to more than 55,000 acres. high temperatures and mountainous terrain are making it difficult for crews. you can see here a time lapse shows the massive plume of smoke rising into the air. about 2800 people have been

part of building a day better bay area is focusing on issues that affect our climate. fracking is certainly one of the more controversial ones. this week, california denied 21 or earlier this year, governor gavin newsom issued a order for the state to stop issuing the permits by 2024. critics say fracking pollutes groundwater and contributes to climate change. scary moments caught on camera at a cherry festival in northern michigan. social media video shows the moment a ride started to malfunction. dozens of people were strapped into their seats when clearly something went wrong. witnesses say the ride began to rock and lived off the ground with each

degrees earlier this afternoon. the coast, just a little bit of fog will make all the difference this time of year. our tower is facing north, showing you that marine layer right now. right up against the immediate coastline that is about it in terms of fog overnight tonight. it will stay pretty mild inland after a hard day. numbers right now across the region, a wide range 102 in concord, 103 in fairfield, down 283 in santa rosa after spending the afternoon well into the 90s. 84 in fremont with that fog in the city right now, we have cooled down to 62 degrees. it is a heatwave across much of california. look in the central valley and it is hot. wanting in fresno, 109 in bakersfield. to the north we go, reading at 113 and we will replay this forecast again tomorrow with a lot of cities across california in that instance heat. back here at home, overnight tonight, that fog among the immediate coastline, maybe a little patchy fog in the east bay, but that is about it. very warm temperatures inland.

reported extensively on the violent crimes targeting the asian pacific islander community. today, some people in east bay turned to badminton of all things to raise awareness and fund the fight against it. the badminton tournament raised money for the blue angel volunteer patrol team, which protects oakland's chinatown. the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce share these pictures with abc7 news . organizers say this was a way to promote peace while supporting anti-violence activism at the same time. looks like fun
