thanks future or so joining us, everybody. you're watching abc7 news live here on abc7, hulu leave and wherever you happen to stream. there was no flex alert for today, but another has been issued for tomorrow. the state's power grid operator is asking everyone to conserve electricity again. power officials say extreme heat and growing wildfires you can see in southern southern so that's threatening transmission lines, continues to strain the power grid. that flex alert will run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. california has said all teachers and students regardless of vaccination status will need to wear masks in the classroom come fall. all of this is despite cdc guidelines saying masks are not required. liz spoke with health and

services secretary dr. mark galley about this decision. >> this is one of the strongest prevention strategies we've seen with so many california students not yet vaccinated, having all wear masks to start the year, we believe gives us the best chance of getting all back to school. that's why california has chosen go with masks. there are strong, very scientifically proven prevention strategies that do not have a requirement for physical distancing in our schools, and that's going to help us get all kids across the state back in just four or five weeks. >> so is this just a health strategy, or also a bay to make sure that unvaccinated forecasts are not treated unfairly, because some argue there should be pressure put on unvaccinated people. >> well, certainly one of the benefit with the, and, look, this pandemic has taken a toll on all of us differently, and making sure that young people are coming back to school, sort of on even ground, where we

don't see singling students out for either being vaccinated or unvaccinated, depending on where you are in our state, this does help us work through some of those early concerns, and we have heard from administrators, since our announcement of this decision on friday in schools across the state, how great it is to have something that is simple and clear, that they don't have to plan around distancing. they they don't have to come up with special programs so determine who is vaccinated and who is not. >> so still so many mixed messages about wear the mask, don't wear the mask. in l.a., there are recommendations to wear the mask indoors. if you go to do you manage the mask situation. >> i choose to wear my mask indoors. i have three young kids who are not vaccinated. one is 11, you know, and i worry, so i choose to do what is simple for me, which is wear my mask indoors.

right now. the same story in fairfield. 22 degrees cooler in livermore. so tomorrow is going to feel a lot better than today did. numbers right now, we are crashing thanks to that fog moving in and around the bay shoreline. we're down to 5 in oakland. 60 in san jose. down to 57 in santa rosa. inland in the 50s and 60s, but where that fog and that marine layer has yet to move in, like brent wood, we are still 84 degrees, but that area, too, will be cooling off. along the coast, we'll have coastal drizzle tonight. it will be cooler than last night. numbers mainly in the 50s across the board. 3:30 in the morning, there is that fog across the bay shoreline. isolated drizzle very likely first thing tomorrow morning. the cloud cover will be slow to break down tomorrow morning. so we'll find a slow clearing of the cloud cover to the coast
