>> part of the fuselage has been found about 400 feet away from the house. the fate of the pilot is unknown and the monterey sheriff said no one was in the home at the time. the search continues today for a missing man in the east bay. philip kreycik was last seen going for a run on saturday and today an army of volunteers and search and rescue crews are continuing to look for him at pleasanton ridge regional park. our reporter goes live with the latest on the search. >> reporter: i'm here at foothill high school in pleasanton ground zero or the command center if you will for this massive search. i was just told this is an unprecedented search in alameda county that a missing jogger would normally be found in 24 to 48 hours but this has stretched on for four days, hundreds of volunteers, high

technology, drones, helicopters out looking for this jogger with no luck. just 15 minutes ago when a press conference, this is what they said they are beginning to believe. >> we are left with two probabilities, one is that we are not finding phil appear in the terrain and he is incapacitated and not responsive, or he's not here and those are our two probabilities we feel when we look at the different contingencies and assessment of the entire operation over the last four days we've come to those conclusions that he is incapacitated within the search zone and we can't find him or he's not here and he somewhere else that we don't know about. >> reporter: so it's a complicated situation as they evaluate what to do next. here's some more on that search effort. the search for 37-year-old

philip kreycik is concentrated on 50 square miles of wilderness, 100 search and rescue personnel from as far away from plaster and solano counties scouted the rugged terrain along with more than 200 volunteers organized by his family. >> his mom and his sister and their friends have been walking up there as well, yesterday and today and they are in good shape. the data staying around here. >> is a bright man, this is a man who went to harvard and m.i.t. this is a man that's very analytical in his thinking, he runs ultra marathons. >> reporter: but he went missing as he parked his car and left his cell phone and it as he departed on an eight mile jog at 10:45 saturday morning in pleasanton ridge regional park. it was 106 degrees outside. but days of extensive searching and even using infrared d rplanehave hven canine brther

ravaged their community for the second time in just eight months. >> ng at us like the headlight on a freight train. >> reporter: the back with complex fire, the largest so far this year in california scorching more than 90,000 acres, destroying at least 20 homes. it's one of at least 58 fires burning across the west supercharged by their record drought and extreme heat. is threatening hundreds of houses and other buildings. in southern oregon, firefighters struggling to contain the bootleg fire which in less than a week has scorch an area larger than portland, eugene, and salem combined. that massive fire knocked out several transmission lines that's supplied power to

california. officials are concerned about the possibility of power outages and asking people to conserve energy. preparations are in full swing in napa county to get ready for what could be another destructive wildfire season. napa county fire chief updated the county's board of supervisors this morning on the steps being taken including the tree clearing of neural hallo mountain road to give the community a safe evacuation path. >> a lot of work has been done not only removing the fuels along the side of the road but as you see with this bucket truck also removing hanging limbs that could potentially if impacted by fire, drop down onto the roadway. >> firefighters are also educating homeowners on steps they can take to make their properties more fire resistant. you can keep track of the fires with our exclusive abc7

danger, it just means that for now and for the next couple of days we will expect this pattern that reduces the risk of fires but it's likely to get warmer over the weekend and that means it will get drier so we will have more in the forecast coming up a little later. as the drought continues the city of santa clara is expected to officially declare a local drought emergency today. city council members are scheduled to pass the resolution at the meeting tonight meeting santa clara would restrict outdoor watering to a maximum of three days per week. there will also be rolls for hotels, restaurants, and carwashes. san francisco's public utilities commission give an update on the city's drought conditions today. while it is marginally better than the rest of the state, they are keeping a close eye on water levels at the reservoir. the last time it was this dry was in 1977. in the south bay, the vta board of directors just wrapped up a special meeting to review a six phase plan to resume

light rail service. it includes finding a temporary work location doing inspections and repairs in providing mental health supportive services. light rail service stopped may 26 following a mass shooting at the guadalupe railyard. bart in the meantime will start incrementally adding back late night train service later this week starting thursday will run four special, limited stop trains that will leave the embarcadero station at 11:30 on thursdays, fridays, and saturdays and they will make a total of eight stops in the east bay and on the san francisco side of the bay. bart will resume its full late- night schedule operating monday through saturdays on august 2. in morgan hill, police say 70 percent of all crime there involves a vehicle and they are hoping a new camera system may help catch the drivers, but not everyone is on board. >> reporter: it's a highly talked about issue that's plaguing the bay area, even the small city of morgan hill is not immune. crime is on the rise. >> i've seen more crime.

you think this doesn't happen to you, but it does happen and it seems more frequent than ever. >> reporter: oregon hill police agree, captain ramirez is a will combat this rise with a pilot program of 25 safety cameras throughout the city in high crime areas that will automatically read license plates and give vehicle descriptions to police, with successful programs already, ramirez hopes the cameras can lead to a reduction in prevention of crime in the city of morgan hill. >> we have an unsolved homicide that cameras would've helped us i identify the vehicle at the time so there absolutely crimes we are trying to investigate where these cameras would have given us the ability to view and give us an investigative lead. >> reporter: police on board, but how does the community feel? there's always two sides of the story. some residents we spoke with our for the cameras. >> i think it's an excellent idea. >> reporter: others are more skeptical. >> my first thought is privacy. we live in a country where we

nationally the jury is still out on whether vaccine boosters will need to be given. the cdc directors urging patients as more data emerges. doctor patel is a key member of our abc7 vaccine team and is following the latest on covid-19 every single day he is with us in the studio. thank you for coming in. let's start with the breakthrough cases. concerning for a lot of people but not unexpected? >> not unexpected but no less concerning and it's important to track the is because it's important to separate versus an asymptomatic breakthrough case versus people who are vaccinated who may be getting severe illness and getting hospitalized and the data is clear. even with breakthrough cases over the past month, 99 percent of covered vaccine deaths in this country have been in unvaccinated people. >>

vaccinated you can relax for >> about 158 million americans have been vaccinated and less than 6000 hospitalized or fatal covert cases in vaccinated individuals have been reported to the cdc. >> that is reassuring. there's been a spy, relatively small in cases since california reopened. underreport finds that cases and workplaces are rising as people come back to the office once again. what can people do to try to stay safe? >> this is the million-dollar question and people are concerned about this and it just depends on your workplace and your level of risk. even more so now i'm more likely to carry a mask with me if i go into business and there's a lot of people there and there's some businesses that need to be looked at and masks may come back. i think hospitals in need to institute a mandated vaccine policy across the board because of what we are seeing and that's a front-line place where people are coming into contact with the delta variant.

children's hospital, our patient populated a lot of them are not vaccinated so we have to think what we can do in a business specific sense. >> so not all businesses are created equal? >> very true and i also just called hospitals the business because they are few let's talk about boosters. a lot of people are talking about this. who should get a booster and when should we anticipated or what about just getting had the pfizer vaccine twice, what if i get the johnson & johnson vaccine on top of that or something of that nature. i hear a lot of people asking. >> i know the vaccine cocktail thing is tempting based on the data but there's no evidence to suggest people should be doing that and it's important to differentiate between how effective the vaccine is against the delta variant which studies across the world shows it really is, versus durability and duration of the vaccine effectiveness and the latter is what we need to be looking at. i'm echoing with doctor fauci and members of the cdc want to look at, people who are vaccinated in december and january, how effective is the vaccine now? that is what we will need to

sort through if and when it's time to advise on getting a booster. >> has some of that data started come back, we know the answer to that question in terms of durability? >> we don't know all the information yet. pfizer has indicated there's millinery data they want to share but if you look around the world and you look against the delta variant, the efficacy is still above 90 percent, 64 percent in a smaller study so across the board americans, californians, everyone should still feel reassured that the vaccines absolutely work against the variant and they are your best shot by far to avoid getting severely ill, hospitalized or dying from the virus. >> and yet we still have people who are very reluctant, we respect people who have those concerns of course, but in some respects the the are unfounded. >> they are unfounded. i agree, i will always welcome dialogue. if you have questions and want to have a back-and- forth conversation, that's great. but we should not be seeing

already started pushing onshore. only 50 degrees in san francighsco t nolow to mountain view, hill. 56 at pacifica. here's a view of the golden gate where you can see the marine layer reaching out over the bay. 70 degrees at santa rosa and all these temperature readings right now are well below average for this time of year. napa at 68, 77 at fairfield and 76 at livermore and was we look across the embarcadero we see a bit of blue sky looking in this direction and these our forecast features, clouds, fog and patchy drizzle will be with us once again overnight and into the early morning hours. cooler than average weather lasting for the next few days and getting a little warm over the weekend, just gradual warming. for the overnight hours notice the increase in low clouds and fog in a few high clouds as well and some spotty drizzle. we had enough

morning that some areas had measurable rainfall, and hundreds of an inch or 207 inch and that will be the pattern tomorrow morning as well and following that pattern, the low clouds will retreat to the coastline and by midmorning giving us mainly sunny skies in the afternoon over the bay and inland. overnight low temperatures with highs tomorrow 61 at half moon bay, 64 in san francisco. a few low 70s the most inland areas about the mid-80s so not a very warm day but a pleasant and mild day and even cooler on thursday as very few inland locations will break the 80 degree mark and then we start to get some gradual warming on friday seeing a few low to mid 80s return in the inland areas and that pattern will continue saturday. notice thursday will be the coolest day of the forecast certainly in the inland areas and that gradual more warming i mentioned begins at the end of the week and continues to the weekend and on monday or tuesday of next week cabbages return to a more seasonal range with low to mid 90s inland and mid-70s around the bay but no heat wave in store for the next seven days, just comfortable weather.

profile transgender woman who has run for office and she's doing so as a republican. while she does have some support, she was heckled at cpac over the weekend and now she's been sparring on twitter about her identity congresswoman marjorie taylor greene. as kaitlyn chana continues her campaign for california governor, her candidacy is dividing conservatives split over her transgender identity. over the weekend, jenna was heckled during an appearance at the conservative political action conference and this week, congressman marjorie taylor greene piled on further, calling jenner a man in a dress. >> while we oppose kendall jenner's campaign we will not stay quiet on the anti-trans attacks against her. >> reporter: equality california is supporting governor newsom in the recall election but immediately came to jenner's defense. >> the hateful and ignorant comments we saw at cpac from marjorie taylor greene are not comments anymore, they're being legislated across the country and none of us should be silent

get it. i wear my mask where it's required but outside of where it's required, i don't wear it, however i do carry my mask everywhere so if i get in the situation where maybe i don't feel so comfortable maybe there's a lot of people and you're an society is high, i have it there if i need it, but i've certainly become more relaxed with the mask and wearing it only in certain situations but i wouldn't say i necessarily think i'm going to get it. >> and what about you? >> just as drew does i carry the mask every where i go and i wear it in any situation where i'm indoors and there are a lot of people around, but i feel more relaxed about it right now and when i go out to dinner i will wear the mask going into the restaurant until unseated but once a month the table assuming i don't have people right over me then i take the mask off and i feel comfortable doing that but still being cautious. >> i do the same and i often put it on, if i go to a place

and there are a lot of people wearing masks, i will put mine on because i'm conforming to make everybody feel good. south korea has issued several new bands aimed at slowing the current surge of coronavirus infections. most make sense but there are two that may leave you scratching your head. those are on fast-paced music and high speeds on gymnasium treadmills. health officials hope these will reduce infections contracted through sweat and saliva but the question i would have come there's not a lot of data that sweat and saliva is what spreads this, it's airborne. >> that's true. i can see why there would be some concern even though it's not supported yet by the research, about the exercise and heavy breathing, but the fast-paced music i don't get. >> may be just bad music. >> is it like a beats per minute kind of thing? i get what they're doing, their
