castillo shows us what some in the south bay are doing. >> reporter: friday a team of bay area health officers released new recommendations that will once those pearly whites behind masks urging everyone to wear them indoors vaccinated or not. >> as soon as we see signals that things are worsening, it's important to act quickly if we've got the evidence to do so. >> reporter: santa clara county assistant health officer dr. sarah ruddman says despite the county's excellent vaccination rates they are still seeing a rise in cases believing much of that may be due to the more transmissible delta variant. across downtown outside has haberdasher sjj. >> we will suggest it but not mandate mask wearing inside. >> reporter: but this owner says he's taking a o ded fe since reopening mid-june boren

a recommendation, the a requirement. in san jose i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. alameda county superior court is reinstating a mandatory indoor mask requirement regardless of vaccination status. ucsf says it is also requiring people to wear masks indoors. the order is in effect everywhere on campus, not just at ucsf's hospitals and clinics. at 11:59 tomorrow night los angeles county's new mask mandate will go into effect. everyone will be required to wear a mask indoors even those who are vaccinated. health officials say the mandate is necessary as covid cases rise, especially among unvaccinated people. >> i got vaccinated and it made my life easier, but apparently it doesn't matter. >> it's not punitive. it's not a punishment to anybody. it's about public safety. >> today the los angeles county sheriff said his office will not enforce the mandate. he says it's not backed by science and added the department will not expend on th instead he asked for voluntary > pfizer is one step closer

to getting full fda approval for its covid-19 vaccine. the company has been granted priority review for its shot. that review process usually takes six months, but approval can come sooner developing news wildfire is sending up plumes of smoke visible from lake tahoe and is forcing evacuations. the tamarac fire is burning south of lake tahoe near the small town of markeleyville. the fire has burned at least 1,600 acres. the annual death ride tour of the california alps cycling event was supposed to start in markeleyville tomorrow, but has been canceled. today the beckwourth complex has burned more than 104,000 acres. it's 68% coemergency is also in effect for siskiyou county because of the lava fire which has been burning since last month. a fire near the campfire burn scar in butte county has grown to more than 8,700 acres.

evacuations remain in place, but firefighters are hopeful nearby neighborhoods are safe. the dixie near is 9% contained. firefighters say instead of digging new containment lines they've been able to reinforce some they dug for the camp fire in 2018 which has saved them obviously considerable effort and time. meantime cal fire says it will increase staffing because of the threat of dry lightning in the bay area this weekend. >> so let's check in with abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel who is tracking conditions. >> yeah. the conditions could be ripe for some more wildfires this weekend. so let me show you what we're talking about. a fire weather watch goes into effect sunday night at 5 p.m. until monday at 11 a.m. there's a slight chance of dry thunderstorms northeast bay hills, santa cruz mountains under that fire weather watch. we're talking about the possibility of new fires with gusty erratic winds. those fires could spread rapiy. the summer monsoon in the desert southwest is going to slowly surge into our area. that's when the thunder threat comes into california as you

harrison just after noon when two suspects emerged from an idled car and started chasing after them. a third suspect runs up as they continue thrashing the women to the ground, taking their belongings before getting away. >> it's kind of frustrating. >> reporter: as president of the oakland chinatown chamber of commerce, carl chan says he's been getting flooded with calls. >> and saying that how upset they feel and how angry they are and seeing, you know, our community is being attacked. >> reporter: that attack happened a day after another incident happened on the same block captured on the same security cameras. the video shows a man standing in front of the baptist church when two men run out of an idled car. they're seen knocking him to the ground, hitting him repeatedly with a gun. a good samaritan was also pistol whipped. police say they have tried to focus on this area, but they've been stretched thin. >> a lot of our resources are going to every single thing we can and i know definitely with the chief, he has put more

police presence in the area. >> reporter: chan says the community patrol groups that were formed earlier this year have helped decrease crime in the area overall recently, but he fears criminals have not been deterred by their efforts. >>iness is last week we are seeing the spiking of this crime in chinatown. so it's kind of concerning. >> reporter: he says the chamber is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest in each case. meantime another community group will be hosting a pop-up market on saturday to raise money for more security cameras to be installed in the area. in oakland, matt boone, abc7 news. next week san francisco officials will talk about a community policing and deployment plan as tourism begins to really pick up again. mayor london breed and police chief william scott will share more from chinatown monday. the city is forecasting more than 15 million visitors this year. oakland city council took a swing at the a's pitch for a

new stadium. the city released its own term sheet to build at howard terminal and they're hundreds of millions of dollars apart on the funding. abc7 news sports director larry beil has the story. >> the a's want a new stadium at the terminal, but how to pay for it is the question. oakland city council offered a counterproposal to the a's term sheet, but there was a huge gap in how and who pays for infrastructure improvements. a's president dave kaval told abc7 news the team has made concessions on affordable housing. the council will take a vote on tuesday and kaval says voting yes on the city's deal really means a no for the a's. >> we've actually been working in good faith to make concessions, but by the same token just something that doesn't have the details, that is not something we agree to, that is not going to be a constructive path forward. proposal today, it was voted on and that was the only thing considered, would not be success for this project and

daca was created in 2012. an oakland legal services agency says several clients have already called with questions and concerns. >> the ripple effect was immediate. the anxiety produced we have numerous clients who daca term currently ending. a coyote that had repeatedly charged at toddlers in san francisco's golden gate park has been killed by wildlife officials. sf animal care and control officials provided this image of the coyote in 2019 when it was spotted near lake merced. they say people illegally leaving food for the coyote as seen in this photo contributed to its fearlessness. local animal control called in federal officials who determined that they had to act because the coyote had become a threat to safety. espn's hugely popular "the last dance documentary" captured the attention of sports fans and general

gie wi 's the weekend warmth and the thunder threat that we are concerned about as the southerly flow of moisture develops. so right now the monsoon moisture is focused over the desert southwest where it typically is, but every one to three years we get some of that moisture starting to spill into our area, which is what is expected to happen sunday as you will notice over the sierra, california. watch monday. that moisture continues to move northward. initially those thunderstorms are going to be high-based. so any rain that falls will evaporate before reaching the ground, which is why any dry lightning could spark fires, especially with the record dry fuels. we're not expecting a rerun of last year's outbreak because we don't have the tropical connection with any tropical storm left over. so that is one odthing, but still remain vigilant going into monday afternoon, still the potential is there. when you look at the fire weather index, we are talking about some high fire danger areas from blue to yellow for

parts of the north to east bay hills and santa cruz mountain. tonight we have fog around in san francisco as you can see, dry thunderstorms possible sunday, monday. risk of new wildfires especially in the hills, warming trend continuing through the weekend. a live doppler 7 showing you limited fog. the marine layer has impressed as high pressure is beginning to take ground and take control. it was warmer day. we'll keep that going for the weekend. temperatures right now 50s to 70s as you check out your morning numbers. they'll be in the 40s to 60s, so out the door watch out for the fog and watch out for reduced visibility. afternoon highs in the south bay 78 in santa clara, 80 in san jose, 84 in gilroy, so it's going to be warmthere. on the peninsula mid-70s san mateo downtown san francisco 65 degrees. it's going to be nice in the north bay, 82 san rafael, 85 santa rosa, 79 napa. east bay communities not terribly hot, actually mild, 72

to the unhoused community... a boutique building volunteers making a difference... a stroll down memory lane. but first, tips on how to recycle right. ♪ >> recycling is important to the environment, so we all need to do our part. learning what goes where makes the process easier. >> oakland recycles is all about the message of recycling right to oakland residents. it's a joint collaboration between the city, california waste solutions, and waste management. as a team, we provide education, technical assistance, free tools, and most importantly, the recycle right message to all oakland residents. ♪ california waste solutions is a recycling service provider in which we collect residential recycling as well as for multi-family properties five units or more. the program includes household

batteries. you place them in a zipped-tight back over the lid of your cart or bin, and they will be collected on your regular recycling day as well as curb-side used motor oil. you contact cws for a free kit, you place it at the curb, and it will be collected by your recycling driver. waste management is the collector of yard waste and compost, as well as trash and bulky services for all residents. ♪ one of the biggest recommendations is know your program. it's really important to have a plan, to make sure you have a place to put your recyclables, your compost, and your trash. so, as you generate waste, that's the number-one tip -- have a plan within your home. in order to recycle right, we ask you to do three easy steps, which is empty, clean, and dry. empty free of food and liquids. scrape out all your food out of

your food jars, and dry paper and cardboard. when there is liquids in the recycling material or food residue or food waste, it degrades the quality of the recyclables, and oftentimes we're unable to recycle and it prevents our recyclables for turning into a second life. any paper or cardboard that has been wet or that has come in contact with food or has oil residue should be placed in your compost container. that is the proper way to recycle it. it's really important to keep your recyclables loose. this way, when they come across a recycling sorting facility, they can be sorted into the different materials. oftentimes, when people bag the recyclables, they may be considered trash -- a bag of trash. so, it's really important to keep them loose into your collection recycling bin. the proper way to recycle your packages that you received is to remove all of your styrofoam and film plastic.

after it's been removed, you can flatten down, put it in your recycling bin. if it doesn't fit in the recycling bin, cut it three by three and place it next to your recycling bin, and it will be collected on your regular pickup days. one of the biggest mistakes that we find in our recycling stream is diapers, hangers, plastic bags, chip bags, water hoses. all those items should be placed into your trash container. one of the biggest mistakes we find in the recycling stream is clothing. our recommendation is to upcycle or donate. however, if that is not an option, please make sure you put it in your trash bin. the best way to recycle tops is to keep it. after you empty the liquids out, keep the top on the plastic bottle. and this way, it will be recycled as the same type plastic material. e-waste and small kitchen appliances do not belong in the
