barbecue sauce and give it a scrub with your stainless steel brush and get you ready for the deep clean at the end of the season. >> always felt like that extra residue gave it extra flavor. apparently not. you also have fun hacks instead of using the traditional grill brush. walk me through it over here. >> well, to give it some extra flavor actually this hack will do just that. take a half of an onion and using a fork, rub it across the grates and it will impart some of that oniony flavor so just make sure you're cooking something savory afterward. another hack you can use with stuff you probably just have lying around the kitchen is, take some leftover tin foil and roll into a ball, use your grill tongs and do the same thick, run it across that nasty residue and it will knock any debris away and get you ready for your next cooking session. >> nice, and note to self, try not to drop the onion on the grill. like i just did on tv. okay, so, when the season ends we have to put our grills away,
8:43 am
so how do we give it a good deep clean? >> so about once a year you want to give it that deep clean to really get it ready and clean off all the grime after a summer of good use so you need a few tools. at your disposal. has o t yollrasoapt a u want tmeurthat and makeure. and then some vegetable oil. so all you need to do is, again, fire up the grill, get it nice piping hot. use your grill brush and brush off all that residue and then let it cool. come back once the grill grates are cool and put it in your bucket of warm soapy water and use the grill brush to knock away anything that's stuck on, then rinse with a hose and then come back once that's all rinsed off, come back with your cloth dipped in vegetable oil, and you're going to want to run it across the grill grates. what that will do is reseason it and prevent any food from sticking after your next use.

>> and you actually reminded me, i need to remove the little grease tray underneath the grill. haven't switched that out this season yet. stephanie, thank you so much. >> do that annually. >> exactly, really appreciate it as always. we're going to shift gears and send it over to rob with more on the weather. >> what are you going to do -- what are the squirrels going to do -- >> good point. and my dog for that matter, he loves that grease tray. >> the grease goes a long way with the animals. if you are grilling today in the northeast, it's going to be smoking hot until the rains come. you have to deal with thunderstorms but before that happens it will certainly be uncomfortable to say the least. heat advisories, d.c., baltimore, all the way up to new york city, up and over 100 degrees it will feel like. head to the shore where the water temperature in the mid-70s, cooler along cape cod. 80 degrees near wilmington. warmer in miami and back through galveston. that's enough to get the beach ball bouncing on this saturday. good morning to you. marine layer in san francisco, 65 later on. increasing moisture tomorrow
