and wherever you stream. laura anthony reports there is a grassroots effort underway to buy equipment so accidents like this are caught on camera. >> reporter: after another week of brazen and violent attacks on seniors and residents of the oakland chinatown, this is an effort to make things safer for everyone. it is a pop-up market that is also a fundraiser. part of a grassroots effort to raise $75,000 to buy surveillance system for neighborhood served by hodgepodge of cameras served by local business owners. >> i don't know what it is, for some reason our elders are being attacked and pushed for no reason, robbed. it is a traumatic experience. they need justice. >> in order to hold assailants

accountable and give the people of oakland chinatown peace of mind a little bit. >> reporter: all of the vendors are local, and many serve the chinatown community and businesses that struggle to survive the pandemic. this fundraiser to buy security cameras is the latest effort to make it safer for those that live and work in oakland's chinatown. the have organized volunteer safety patrols to send out alert if they are attacked or robbed. while many crimes are captured by existing cameras and cell phones, the hope is a more robust system will lead to more arrests or better deterrence. >> cameras are a good start. having outreach to the community, especially the folks outreach in their environment and their neighborhoods is more helpful than specifically treating the symptom. >> reporter: in oakland, laura anthony with abc7 news.

fighting for racial and social justice. we don't have all the answers but we have a lot of resources to help you. go to abc7news.com. keeping a close eye on the weather this weekend. there's a good chance we could see thunderstorms. meteorologist drew tuma joins us now. we love smiling about stuff but this is concerning. >> i want to emphasize, this will not be like last august where we had thousands of lightning strikes in the sky. what we see developing over the next eight hours is isolated chance of lightning. that chance combined with our drought and dry fuels has heightened the fire risk over the next few days. high pressure over the four corners, moisture rotating around it, it will try to move to central and northern california tomorrow. it needs the atmosphere to moisten so what we're looking at now through tomorrow morning, darker shades, that is dry air overhead right now.

that will change especially tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. that green on your screen is additional moisture added to the atmosphere which will cause the threat or chance for thunderstorms to develop. red flag warning beginning 5:00 p.m. tomorrow for the threat of lightning and possibility i could start new fires. taking a closer look, go hour by hour to show who has the highest threat to see lightning in the full forecast. developing news in the a sierra, wildfire forced a new round of evacuations and closed three highways. the tamarac fire south of markley belt and burned 6600 acres. highway 88, 89, and 4 are shut down due to the flames. residents of alpine village this afternoon were told to evacuate. three structures destroyed, video obtained by abc7 news appears to show one home that

burned. more crews going to the fire zone today. firefighters are setting backfires to fight this one. this fire was sparked by lightning on july 4. the dixie fire, which is burning near the location of the deadly 2018 camp fire in butte county is over 9800 acres. firefighters are slowly gaining ground with containment at 12%. cal fire says the rugged terrain is making it difficult for crews to reach the flames. there are evacuations but no buildings have been lost. vaccinations remain a big focus in san mateo county. a vaccine clinic was held today at a park reopening in daly city. vaccination rate in san mateo county is more than 89% but 50% in the latino community. board of supervisors president says the only way out of the pandemic is getting everyone

once-in-a-lifetime event. what we see happening over the next two days is isolated chance of thunderstorms. we will keep our eye on that because it is so dry out. any threat of a thunderstorm this type of year heightens fire awareness. live doppler 7 shows coastal cover. nice the four corners and you look at southern california and you can see moisture move into southern california. that will work its way into central and northern california over the next two days, the threat is there but very isolated in nature, i will show you where i think the threat is highest. looking at the camera, nice fog layer, moving back around the bay overnight tonight. it is when inland, 91 concord, 93 what, coast we are comfortable, 58 half moon bay, 88 in santa rosa. overnight, marine layer building in from the coast, patchy fog around the shoreline. numbers tonight, mid to upper

50s first thing tomorrow morning. start the day with morning clouds, some afternoon sunshine. by the afternoon into the evening, we will watch moisture move in. the best chance of finding that isolated thunderstorm is likely to the south and east of the bay area. it gets very close to us, the front is there for us to pick up isolated thunderstorm. the best chance will be tomorrow night into monday, likely in the sierra where we like lacey thunderstorms pop up. the lightning forecast also thinking the same thing. take a look as we go through the day tomorrow, you don't notice forecasted lightning strikes which is good news. as we head into monday, there's a chance, 1:00 or 2:00, you can see moderate to high chance of lightning around lake tahoe. much of california under red flag warning including parts of the bay area. the north bay mountains, east bay hills, santa cruz mountains starting tomorrow at 5:00 for

welcome back. pokemon catch them all, people turned out in san francisco today for the annual pokemon go fest. five years since the release of pokemon go. players running around outdoors trying to catch pokemon. the festival included several stops at gyms in union square and along the embarcadero. san francisco, 1 of 20 cities around the world picked
