all her employees to be vaccinated. health officers say that they feel that the choice right now is to get vaccinated or get covid. and contra costa county, and unvaccinated person is 20 times more likely to get covid than someone who is fully vaccinated. >> unvaccinated workers pose a risk not only to themselves, but to their coworkers and to the members of the public they interact with. >> we want to empower businesses with this. >> reporter: we checked in with the director of biomedical ethics at stanford on this is your this is because the vaccine is accessible to everyone in the united states over the age of 12, it is ethical to require it, saying that public health individual liberty.

the health officers did not give any advice to employers on how to enforce this, whether to fire employees who do not get vaccinated, but santa clara county is taking the lead on this and is saying that it will require all of its county employees to be vaccinated. the nfl is putting pressure on teams to get players vaccinated. a memo from the league lays out strict protocols that will penalize teams, including possible forfeits if an outbreak among unvaccinated players puts the schedule in jeopardy. this could happen if the league is unable to reschedule a game involving a team that is experiencing an outbreak. this could be bad because a forfeit is essentially a loss. the team would be responsible for covering lost revenue from the game. the tokyo olympics begins today, despite the covid-19 surge. the executive director of the game says that there is no longer any scenario in which the competition would be canceled. tokyo is under a state of emergency reporting a six-month high and new covid infections.

100 people have tested positive for the virus. cases of the delta variant are multiplying across this country. a new model from researchers working with the cdc predicts the current's spike will not peak until october. we have more on how cities and federal health officials are responding. this is not what we want to hear. atlanta, chicago, boston, are some of the big cities requiring masks in schools for all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. covid cases in kids is on the rise this summer. in upstate new york, an outbreak at a sleep away camp infected children. kids under 12 are not yet eligible for the vaccine. three states with low vaccination rates account for 40% of new infections, they are texas, missouri, and florida. >> i am usually the big strong
