no longer carry the weight. the navy says that last summer's fire that destroyed a warship off the coast of southern california was deliberately set. now one of their own is facing charges. this morning a u.s. sailor re bonhomme richard" in one of the worst noncombat fires seen in the navy. >> we have not seen a fire of this magnitude in a navy ship in recent memory at least in my career. >> reporter: the sailor not identified but in a statement a navy official confirming the sailor quote was a member of the "bonhomme richard's" crew and faces charges of aggravated arson and the willful hazarding of a vessel. on july 12th of 2020 an explosion rocked the "bonhomme richard" as it was docked in san diego for maintenance. more than 400 sailors and firefighters braving smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion as they battled the massive blaze. >> the flames are out but the heat is still there so we're going taste by space in every compartment checking for hot spots. >> reporter: the fire burning for nearly five days leaving 63
