with the new variant out, it is scary. >> the delta variant has become a tipping point for some who have been debating getting vaccinated. it comes as we have a surge in cases not seen in months. thank you for joining us. we are live here on abc7, hulu, and wherever you stream. a rise in new infections has sonoma county officials considering a mandatory mask mandate within days. this is a wave blamed on the delta variant. sonoma county have seen high transmission rates. the other counties, san mateo, and santa clara have substantial transmission. how fears over the new strain may be convincing some people

to be vaccinated now. >> it has added a lot of extra stress. >> reporter: she is expecting her first baby in a matter of weeks. she decided to get vaccinated after family members begged her. spoke with the new variant out, it is scary. my dad has been having emotional issues knowing i'm not vaccinated. >> reporter: this clinic has seen a rise in people looking for shots. 200 were given since last wednesday. fears are providing possible incentive. >> a lot of 18 to 30-year-olds have come and. >> reporter: about 70% of sonoma county people are vaccinated. >> this delta variant has changed the narrative and now we have to be aggressive and be realistic that this is a much nastier opponent.

>> reporter: hospital er's are filled with patience. it means a mask mandate is likely any day for most counties. >> we are close to a mandate of wearing a mask. i know people are tired of being told what to do, but this is where we are. >> it is causing the vast majority of our cases right now and as i said, this is going faster than the one we saw in the fall or winter. >> reporter: small business owners will comply with the rules like they've been doing for the past year, but for many it is frustrating because for every two steps forward, is five steps back. >> really disappointed. >> reporter: inside this restaurant but he will require them if he's asked.>> not the direction i want to be going in. so get vaccinated. it's that simple.

we are seeing a slight increase in vaccinations in california. the average doses administered climbed above 68,000 today. 21.3 million people are fully vaccinated and that is about 63% of those eligible. 3.2 million people are partially vaccinated and the state has plenty of doses available. tomorrow part is returning to near pre-pandemic service levels. trains will run later and more frequently, despite the delta variant, the vice president said people can be confident that their health is a top priority.>> bart is safer than being in a closed building. the air is circulated more quickly. so every 70 seconds the air is circulated out of a train car and the staff has worked to install even better efforts was that filter out smaller air particles.

>> reporter: there are growing concerns for children. in louisiana a children's hospital is treating 11 kids with covid. six of them are in intensive care. >> some of them need breathing tubes and some of them just putting the two been is not enough. >> reporter: florida saw their highest increasing cases since the pandemic began. officials in palm beach county saw many getting vaccinated and they were young. >> covid is heating up and it's important that my kids get vaccinated. >> reporter: dr. fauci does not think we will see repeat of the lockdowns but warned that things will get worse. >> the unvaccinated are allowing the propagation and the spread of the outbreak, which ultimately impacts everyone. >> reporter: the u.s. has seen positive trends getting people to get shots. there were four straight days

of more than 700,000 vaccines being administered. as the country continues to grapple with this virus, millions of americans are facing homelessness. now that the eviction moratorium that was put in place last year to help people stay in their homes has expired. new developments with evander kane. he is responding to allegations that he bet on his own games and through them. the nhl said they have launched an investigation after a series of posts on social media. he responded saying that he denied throwing a game or betting on the sharks games or any hockey game. he said he welcomes the investigation and will cooperate. he and his wife are in the middle of getting divorced. a driver went the wrong way down the freeway in a desperate effort to escape the police.

a helicopter captured each turn. police said they stopped pursuing the driver when he started to drive against traffic and went the wrong way onto interstate 780. the car lost a tire. it nearly stopped by chp when the driver turned around and drove the wrong way. the driver eventually stopped and attempted two carjackings. that is where the police were able to arrest them. some people once threatened by the dixie welfare could go home today. a number of evacuation orders were downgraded. is just a few miles from paradise, where the camp fire burned several years ago. there is a new evacuation warning added today. the fire now threatens more than 10,000 homes and has been burning since july 14th.

in the south bay festival is coming to a close and organizers say it was a huge success. for the first time in its 41 year history, it was a drive- thru event. preorder food sales so that every day and people got a glimpse of the food as they dropped pick up orders. organizers gave us a tour today. >> doing this was a risk. and we were still restricted in the county. the response and to see people coming through smiling, everyone loved the fact that we were doing it. >> it was so successful that organizers say even if the traditional festival is held next year, there will be a drive-thru food option as well. coming up, someone knew what they wanted.

visitors to lake tahoe could be in for a surprise. to ease the crunch at hidden beach, officials are going to try out surge pricing. depending on the date and time, it could cost up to 27 dollars per hour to part. those who get there after 7 pm would be able to park for free.

it's in the 70s and 80s. 76 in san ramon. down to 65 in the city. napa it is beautiful with a temperature of 80 degrees. here's the satellite and doppler radar. low pressure off the coast and this is going to supply the fog in the morning. and the onshore breeze that keeps temperatures and check. things will be changing over the next few days. this area will move in to california and that will bring a warm up, especially in tuesday. tonight, despite clear skies, fog will come back. the marine layer will expand and we will see mid to upper 50s tonight. tonight cooler compared to last night. here is the marine layer. by lunchtime, afternoon, a lot of sunshine and even sunny skies along the coastline.

finally, a group of bicyclists kicked off their journey to ride from the bay area to new york. they're doing it in honor of the 20th anniversary of the september 11th attacks. the bay to brooklyn ride is 3000 miles and they aim to arrive in new york before the anniversary. we caught up with them today. one told us what makes this so rewarding.>> being able to stop and talk to the communities and talk to the individuals. and to hear their stories about what 9/11 was like for them. >> they were welcomed with a dj and a party this afternoon. they will spend the night before hitting the road again
