in cases.thank you for joining us. you are watching abc7news at 11 live here on abc 7 and wherever you stream. the cdc should stop short of a mask mandate but recommended indoor masking for everyone in areas with high and substantial transmission.that applies to every county in the bay area .7 in the . have high transmission. santa clara and san mateo both have substantial transmission. breaking down what health recommendations mean for you is our part of building a better bay area. san francisco's mayor says new mask guidance could be coming soon. jr stone has reaction. >> with the mask on >> are you for the health mandate or not? >> reporter: that is the question. currently, san francisco does not have a mask mandate in place, with covid-19 cases on th here with a 5.2% positivity rate, the mayor spoke of a mandate friday.

>> we are definitely close to a mandate of wearing masks. mandate of wearing masks. i know people are being told what to do and they're tired of it but this is where we are. >> most were okay with some sort of mandate. especially seeing as san francisco is one of several bay area counties currently recommending both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals mask indoors. >> i would like to have a mask mandate for indoors. >> if it is just inside, that is fine. it should be there to protect all of us. >> i'm thinking inside is probably okay, just because you are dealing with different people who may have different comfort levels and that kind of a thing. outside i think is a little extreme personally. >> reporter: dr. grant cold flax clarified what is being looked at. we are vigorously exploring a interim mask mandate and in discussions with surrounding counties and health officers with regard to that.

>> reporter: not everyone is on board and some we spoke with her not just against another role but believe it mask mandate will discourage some from getting vaccinated. >> if we continue to have mask mandates we will not get to immunity. with the what point in time did we figure out how to coexist? >> reporter: strong opinions there on masking. as of saturday, san francisco has 95 people in the hospital with covid-19 .23 of those individuals are in the icu. jr stone, abc7news. starting tomorrow, bart is returning to near pre-pandemic service levels. trains will run later and more frequently despite the variant the vice president says riders can feel confident their health is top priority. >> bart is safer than being in a closed building because the air is circulated much more quickly, so every 70 seconds the air is circulated and bart

staff worked in the past year to install new, even better air filters that filter out smaller air particles, so if you are already going into an office building every day, bart is safer than that office building. here are the changes effective tomorrow. trains will run until midnight and come every 15 minutes during the day. there will be more direct trips to sfo on week days. just days after the school year started, for the redhook unified school district in the east bay, parents were informed of more than a dozen positive covid-19 cases among staff and students. dustin dorsey spoke with parents before the start of the school week. >> reporter: after a year of distance learning , students and staff were back together once again, but the welcome home was disrupted just three days into the new year as covid-

19 once again reared its head .15 cases were reported within the districts 11 schools. >> we are scared and we think it is important for kids to go back to school. >> reporter: he hopes this trend does not continue, so his seventh grader will not have to go back to online learning. as for molly, she says it is concerning, but she is confident the school districts plan to keep them safe. >> there masking while indoors and taking the necessary steps.i feel really safe with my kids being there. >> reporter: thanks in part to this plan, the district says contact tracing shows no reported cases were contracted at a school. dana eaton provided us with the protocols that go into place following a positive case. along with contact tracing they include notifications to parents, and cleaning of appropriate classrooms or offices. the superintendent said in a statement the district intends to follow all state guidelines to prevent the spread of

positive cases. >> reporter: they say the schools will remain open but if they want to stay open the infectious disease specialist says the community needs to do their part. >> at the end of the day, vaccination for those eligible is still going to be the best way of combating this. if you want to protect the kids under 12, again you need that ring of vaccinated adults around them. most of the transmissions in the past year in the united states have been from adults to kids. >> reporter: while some parents are worried about keeping kids in school, others are pulling their kids out because they are required to mask up. the group is organizing a protest for monday at 8 am at garin elementary to call to an end to the mandate. dustin dorsey, abc7news. we are seeing a slight increase in vaccinations in california. the average number of doses administered each day climbed above 68,000 today .20 1.3 million people are now fully vaccinated that is nearly 63%

of those eligible. over 3.2 million people are partially vaccinated. the state has plenty of doses on hand and reports having 76 days worth of inventory. if you have questions about the coronavirus vaccines you can always ask the abc7news vaccine team. just had to abc7news.com/vaccine. people are dead after a chopper went down at about 1:15 this afternoon in a remote area near highway 45. the crash site is about halfway between sacramento and chico. cal fire reported the crash but it was not their helicopter. the county deputies have not identified the victims so far. the faa and ntsb will join the investigation. and end in sight for california's largest wildfire, the dixie fire. the number of evacuation orders were lifted or downgraded. that fire is a few miles from paradise, where the deadly camp

fire burned in 2018. the number of homes in harms way is down from 10,000 to around 3000 and for the first time, cal fire set a containment date of august 13. the dixie fire has been burning since july 14 and is now at 388 square miles with 33% containment. still ahead on abc7news at 11, the sharks evander kane response after his wife commented on him throwing games. we are wrapping up a beautiful weekend. over the next couple of days, warmer weather will make a comeback. we will have the numbers in the forecast. it is the ultimate ride.

evander kane. the sharks players responding to allegations by his wife that he bet on his own games and even through them. the nhl says they have launched an investigation after a series of posts yesterday by his wife. he responded this morning with a statement on twitter and denied throwing a game or betting on games or any hockey game for that matter. he says he welcomes the investigation and will cooperate. they are in the middle of getting a divorce. san francisco's memorial church held a vigil honoring their long time philanthropist to died earlier this week at the age of 80. she cofounded the glide foundation which has helped san franciscans in the need for decades. she was married to glide minister cecil williams. two days memorial y jace his c

will live on. >> she has done so much for women and minorities and people that are challenged. i cannot even count how many people's lives she has substantially changed by herself. >> she also published several collections of poetry and was the city's poet laureate from 2000-2002. glide is still planning a public memorial which it hopes to hold in the coming weeks. soon will pay $85 million to settle a lawsuit claiming it violated users privacy. the lawsuit alleges zoom shared personal data with facebook, google, and linkedin. they also claim that the service allowed hackers to disrupt meetings at the height of its use during the pandemic. customers complained of people setting profanity or even sharing pornography. under the settlement, some subscribers will be eligible for 15% refunds.

a federal judge in san jose will sign off on the deal to finalize it. the gilroy garlic festival is coming to a close and organizers say it was a huge success. for the first time in the festival's 41 year history it was a drive through food event. food sales sold out every day. people got a glimpse of the pyro chefs as they drove to pick up their orders. organizers gave us a little tour today. >> doing this was a risk back in april. again, we were still restricted in the county .2 see the response and to see the people coming through smiling, everyone loved the fact that we were doing it. >> apparently it was so successful organizers say even if the traditional festival is held next year it will still have a drive through food option. getting to the weather now. we are watching a roller coaster of a week ahead.

we will cool off rapidly midweek before we warm up again. today was really nice. the warmest spots only in the low to mid 80s. tomorrow we will see a return of the 90 degree heat. tonight, a live look outside. it is sparkling across san francisco right now. it is clear right now, but we will find the fog regrouping over the next 12 hours and we will wake up to grace guys first thing, especially over the city. tomorrow, we are doing well. no matter where you are, air- quality is going to be fresh overhead. by tuesday, a mix of good to moderate but overall, no air multi-issues over the next 48 hours. numbers in the mid-50s to the mid-60s. we are at 62 in oakland, 60 in the city with mainly clear skies .65 in brentwood. santa rosa, one of the cooler spots at 56 degrees. here is live doppledoppledopplee

low pressure was off the coastline and that helped to keep the cooler air in place along the coast. that onshore breeze was pretty gusty this afternoon. we are watching this area of high pressure moving into california over the next couple of days. it will supply the warmer weather inland but then this area is going to win out by midweek and bring us back down to reality by wednesday. overnight we will find temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. we will have fog developing after midnight tonight. first thing tomorrow morning we could have coastal drizzle .54 is the low in the city, down to 49 in santa rosa .57 is the low in san jose. there is the marine layer tonight. by 7 am you can see a thick layer of fog along the coast. even patchy fog pressing inland as well. at the morning it breaks down and even along the coastline we will get some afternoon sunshine to round out our monday. in the south bay tomorrow warm with a lot of sunshine .80 in

san jose, 90 in morgan hill. we will go to 81 in corporate pitino. and then 79 in redwood city, 77 in menlo park in pacifica up to 65 degrees. morning clouds and afternoon sunshine downtown, hitting 67, it hit about 65 and breezy for daly city. it is warm but not excessively hot in the north bay tomorrow. 85 in nevada, 83 is the high in sonoma. the same in san rafael. even stinson beach with a little bit of sunshine tomorrow hitting 70 degrees. tomorrow in the east bay we will find afternoon sunshine and 73 in oakland. 76 in san leandro and inland we will see 90s return to the forecast .94 in antioch and 91 is the high in livermore. here is the from morning clouds to sunshine tomorrow. a warming trend continues tuesday. we are getting close to 100. do not get used to it. it gets right back down to the 80s by wednesday.

a group of bicycliof bicyclf kicked off their journey to ride from the bay area to new york and honor of the 20th anniversary of the september 11 attacks. the day to brooklyn ride is 3000 miles long and cyclists aim to arrive in new york city just before the anniversary. we caught up with them today en route to san francisco where one told us what makes this so rewarding. >> being able to stop and talk to the community, talk to the individuals and hear their stories about what 9/11 was like for them. >> firefighters and first

potential surge of the delta variant. officials say that 90% of the attendees were vaccinated, and that time will tell of any possible covid spread. >> obviously, we will know a little bit more in a week or 10 days, but we have to keep pushing the fact that the unvaccinated are the people that are at risk. >> reporter: this weekend, marking a sixth sixth sixth six cases. more than 76% of u.s. counties now reporting high or substantial transmission rates. hospital admissions surging to more than 6000 per day, the highest number of patients since february. dr. anthony fauci today warning that things will get worse. >> we are looking at pain and suffering in the future because we see the cases go up, which is the reason we say over and over again, the solution to this is get vaccinated, and this would not be happening. >> reporter: in austin, texas, there are only seven icu beds

pitch for governor. here is part of their conversation. >> there are a lot of people especially in the bay area who may not be familiar with you, so that was my quick pitch, who is larry elder and why are you running for governor? >> i am a native californian. my dad came here in 1945. he was a janitor and work full- time jobs as a janitor. he saved his nickels and dimes to buy a home in south-central los angeles. the good news is it is still in the family but the bad news is it is now worth $600,000 so sunday with an eighth grade dropout education could not duplicate his path from poverty to middle-class because of the price of houses in california. it has gotten so incredibly high. the reason for that is the environmental extremists that to jack up the cost of housing so that developers have to wait and wait and get sued over and over again so that finally when a home gets belted is way more expensive than it otherwise would be when the environmental rules and recognition.

>> we see that reflected in the polls, but no political experience, so how does that make you qualified to run the fifth largest economy in the world? >> do not insult me, i did run for fifth grade class president and i carried it in a landslide but really, i have common sense, i have good judgment. for crying out loud, gavin newsom has a great deal of political experience. he was the mayor of your town and eight years lieutenant governor, so he had plenty of time to think about what he would do where he to become governor and for the last two years he has been governor and we had rising crime, rising homelessness. the schools are behind among the worst in the nation. and in school learning has now been deprived of kids for a whole year .75% of black boys in california already cannot . at state levels of proficiency and those levels are not high. and he had his own kids enjoying private education. so for all those reasons, that is why i am running.

>> the sounds of the symphony filled the air at golden gate park. they kicked off the 139th season. they played free concerts on the music cons course near the owarhed chnday mances star1 pm. the movie jungle crews docked in the top spot of the weekend box office. they made $34 million making it the third-largest opening during the pandemic. disney is also the parent company of abc7news.

jungle crews earned five times more than the green night which came in second with 6.78 million . old earned 7.6 million after scoring the top spot last weekend. black widow came in fourth and stillwater took the fifth spot, earning just more than $5 million. someone broke into the sacramento history museum and made off with several gold artifacts. the burglar was seen on surveillance video entering through the main entrance building saturday. the man headed right to the display cases with the gold and smashed them. the alarms did go off but by the time the officers arrived the band it was gone. gold is going for more than $1800 per ounce and the museum has not released a value on the items that were stolen. one last check of weather with cheif meteorologist, drew tuma. beautiful weather for the symphony. >> it was hard to complain about the temperatures. the warmest cities are

70s and 80s. we will increase that away from the coast. tonight, we find the fog gathering, spilling into the bay shoreline. coastal drizzle as well. tonight is cooler compared to last night. tonight will be upper 40s to the upper 50s first thing on monday. there is the marine layer 1st thing in the morning. the drizzle as well along the coast. then the fog breaks down and into the afternoon i even expect the coast to squeak out some sunshine here and there. highs on your monday, you can see it is nice close to the coast with 60s and 70s .73 in oakland and 80 in san jose. inland is where the 90s make a comeback .92 in concorde, and even cloverdale, up to about 91 degrees. the accuweather seven day forecast, we will show you the morning cloud cover tomorrow. it warmer afternoon tuesday, but then mother nature knocks us back down about 10 degrees on wednesday. that is the coolest pattern we have over the next seven days.
