greenville has been burned to the ground. you can see e wnheriff's office, jail, library, stores, restaurants and hotel have been destroyed and destroyed 278,000 acres and burning near paradise, which had its own wildfire in 2018. local congressman got emotional during a facebook video. >> we lost greenville tonight. there are no words how we haven't been able to get the job done. we wiltake up the fight harder. >> that dixie fire is the

eighth largest fire in state history. the fire is only 35% contained and pg&e has alerted state regulators that its equipment may have sparked the live fire before it merged with the dixie fire. south of the dixie fire, cal fire is battling the river fire which was parked yesterday morning near colfax. this 1400 acre fire has forced evacuations of 7000 homes. firefighters have zero containment. u.s. agriculture secretary is pledging to but more firefighters on the front lines and get them higher pay. he met with governor gavin newsom yesterday to tour the burn scar from august complex fire from last year. it was the largest fire in state history, burning 1 million acres. governor newsom said the state and the federal government are working together on a plan. >> the reality is we need to approach things differently and acknowledge that the hops are getting hotter and the dry is getting drier.

a new projection from the centers for disease control and prevention shows how bad the surge could get. jobina fortson with a live numbers. >> a number of covid-19 patients in the u.s. may triple by the end of this month and hit 200,000 new cases per day. the delta variant accounts for 93% of covid-19 cases. hospitals are feeling the impact, the highest infection rate in louisiana were hospitals are up 500% -- hospitalizations i should say. dr. anthony fauci explains how people who opt not to get vaccinated can affect the health and safety of others. >> people who say i don't want to get vaccinated because it is me and i will worry about me. i'm not having any impact on others. that is not the case. when people don't get vaccinated, it allows the virus to circulate through the community. when it does, even if it doesn't make a particular

yesterday, the school districts were given guidance on how to implement the new mandate. they know that most of the teachers and staff are vaccinated but they lack the real numbers to prove it. the districts want to record the data. san jose unified issue a similar policy. san francisco unified has not mandated vaccines for students and staff but requires everybody report their vaccination status. school districts are working on requirements. josh becker weighed in. >> teachers and parents who would like to see this happen. >> because the legislature is not in session, lawmakers are leaving it up to school districts to issue requirements. if you have questions about the vaccines, ask the abc 7 vaccine team. submit your questions on abc7news.com. the family of the missing

man, philip kreycik , will speak today. a jogger found the body of the man on thursday. amy hollyfield is live in pleasanton. >> reporter: we are hearing more from officials about how this possibly could have happened and more about the area where he was found. we have a video of that area from sky seven. it gives you an idea of how rugged and thick the terrain is in pleasanton ridge regional park. a captain with the east bay parks district said they get hundreds of calls every summer from people who get lost and they accidentally turn onto a trail that has been carved out by animals. it is worn down grass and dirt but it veers them off at their intended route. philip kreycik went for a run three weeks ago in this area and was never seen again. that day was an exceptionally hot day.

>> they can look like it very inviting for someone that it might be an existing trail and it's not. a lot of times you can get disoriented where you think you should be making a right turn u service can be spotty in that area but he had left his phone in the car. a volunteer searcher found the body tuesday. they say it was far off the trail. his family is expected to speak publicly this morning and investigators tell me they are working to trace his movements possibly using his smart watch that he was wearing. that should tell them time of death. we are waiting for the corners report of confirmation that it is him and the cause of death. reporting live, amy hollyfield. let's build upon what we

were talking about yesterday on midday live. this is a drastic change in the near smoke forecast and it has held steady. let's start at 6:00 this morning. watch as they haze develops as that smoke got trained in the marine layer. it pushes across and we see yellow and oranges. it's going to be thick as we peel back the cloud cover. we will reveal haze for the afternoon. this isn't the worst of it. it hangs renton i. 6:00 tomorrow morning, it gets almost as thick as this model will project over most of the north bay. the east bay. also a tenant red for the rest of his. air-quality could be worse tomorrow. we will keep an eye on the air- quality district and see if they update the forecast. this is our roof camera. the winds are blowing and bringing a cool afternoon. if you will be out side, watch

together how this happened and why it took so long to find him. this view shows you how rugged the terrain is here in the president ridge regional park where he was found. a captain with the regional park district said they get hundreds of calls every summer from people who get lost. he said often people will take but looks like a path but really it is a worn down grass and dirt area from animal movement. it beers them off their planned route. it was hot the day philip went for that run. he was possibly disoriented from the heat maybe were he may have had an injury or fell. these are scenarios they will consider. they hope to get information from his smart watch like movement or time of death. there was a search effort after he disappeared involving hundreds of people with search dogs and drones and helicopters. police searched thoroughly but

mateo county said it's not sharing data about variants of concern at the local level. we are hearing from a virginia man who regrets not getting vaccinated. travis campbell is hooked up to the hospital with covid-19 for 12 days. >> it is real. it is only getting stronger and faster. it is very important. i would rather be protected so if something does happen and i have to worry about repercussions of a vaccine versus being buried in seven days. >> campbell and his family say they kept putting off getting the vaccine because of their busy lives. now they wish they had made it

a priority. there is a need for covid- 19 testing locations. jobina is at the live desk. >> every cantey is working on adding more capacity. they are negotiating with labs to open new sites. sonoma county has seen demand go up from 1000 tests per week to 10,000. it's partnering with providers for faster service. >> there talking to the laboratory, a regional lab, about going back to weekend staffing and running tests on the weekends. >> hoping we can make it another way but they will go out. we are down to fewer than 2000 a day and now at 5000. if we expand up to 9000 a day we will need to expand. >> grant colfax said the health department is exploring all health implications.

illness. you are putting those around you at high risk of infection and illness. the time to get vaccinated is now. >> officials say there are people who are fearful of gethe sh because toey rkor wod if you have side effects, they are mild compared to the virus. the county is offering drop-in vaccination clinics this week and you can find those by visiting scc free facts.org. north bay, cases searching. all emergency workers order to be fully vaccinated, or get weekly testing. sonoma county expanded a health order. in four weeks, all fire, law enforcement, emergency medical, and staff at shelters have to be fully vaccinated, or submit to the weekly covid-19 testing.
