both businesses and homes are engulfed in flames. you can see cars burning by thed xie fire had re than 361,000 acres and it is just 35% contained. if we go farther south, near grass valley, the river fire has torn through 3600 acres. a man and his wife lost her home. he tried to save the house with his hose and water from his pool, but he said it raced up the hill like a tornado. >> all of the sudden the wind picked up. it was embers in my eyes and it blew the water back in my face and next i know, there's fire on both sides of me. 76 structures have been destroyed by the river fire and that is just 15% contained. officials say there is potential for an increase in fire behavior today as temperatures go up and gusty winds are expected. you can see live updates on the fires burning in california with our wildfire tracker. you can find on our website

abc7news.com. napa county just joined nearly the entire bay area in mandating masking indoors regardless of vaccination status. this went into effect at midnight. solano county at this point is the only local county not requiring masking indoors. california is only recommending that, but does not mandate universal indoor masking. this morning, federal health officials are indicating that they will likely recommend booster shots for immunocompromised individuals within weeks. >> is important for us to move to get those individuals there boosters. we are working that will make that to the situation that is implement it as quickly as follow bill. the first boosters we go to vulnerable people like cancer transplant patients or those with medications that suppress the immune system. the recommendation is expected by early september. even though it is not authorized or even recommended by the cdc, san francisco general hospital is starting to

give out extra vaccine doses to people who previously got to the j&j shot. amy hollyfield is joining us live with how this works. >> reporter: this started yesterday. we spoke with people who successfully got a booster shot here at sf general. and we talked to people who were turned away. there is definitely a demand for this extra shot. there was a line of people here at the hospital. they were trying to get the booster. these are people have the j&j, or who got the j&j and want an extra dose. this is not approved by the federal government but the san francisco development of public health has decided to offer this. some patients do not get with they came for the first day of these boosters. >> i parked and walked in and said that they're already out. >> they said they'd already given 1000 shots this morning. and that they were prioritizing sf general patients at this point and i am a ucsf patient.

department of health has said they are offering the pfizer in moderna shots to j&j recipients at all of the vaccine sites. but, they have not given specific information about when and where people can show up and not everyone gets lucky as some people found out yesterday. so we will cover the second day as they roll this out, we will see if we get more information and more specifics for and if you out there who are interested in this extra shot. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield. happening today, kaiser and the oakland unified school district are hosting a free clinic. they will have the windows johnson & johnson vaccine and the two dose pfizer vaccine to oakland residents ages 12 and up. kids from ages 12 to 17 in the parent to sign off. walk-ins are welcome. oakland public schools will begin in person classes on monday.

in anticipation of schools reopening, we got a tour of fremont high school which just remodeled and will welcome more than 1000 students. it was but does a venue symbolizing a new beginning as the district resumes in-person learning. because the school has been remodeled, there plenty of windows and air purifiers to maintain power proper ventilation. masks, shields, and hand sanitizer's are in every classroom. they will not require teachers and staff to be vaccinated, the district says it will take cues from the county and state. alameda county supports vaccine choice. with that said, we will continue to strongly encourage and provide support around vaccination and testing. the mandate for all public employees and teachers.

the great highway is currently closed to vehicle traffic from lincolnway to slowed all of our. it has been this way since april 2020. it was part of the city's response to the pandemic and the need for social distancing. since that time, there has been a push to keep it closed due duu the spectacular views of the ocean. many and neighbors have complained, saying that the traffic has been rerouted through side roads. getting anywhere takes an extra 20 to 30 minutes and there have been concerns about vehicles getting places. we asked neighbors if this compromise of five days open in two days closed is a win. this is with a had to say. >> my emotions today are relief because we had such an onslaught of unbelievable traffic since the highway closed. >> i'm happy today, but it is just the beginning. it will reopen on august 16, but keep in mind that it is

wanted. >> the reason i went forward and got it was because i saw the news that germany is doing it and israel is doing it. if those other countries are doing this, then we are offering something similar. one man told us that when he got here, healthcare workers told him they were already out of shots. one woman told us she was turned away because they were prioritizing san francisco general patience and she is a ucsf patient. so she do not get one. even though some people did not have luck here. the san francisco department of public health says it is now available at all of the sites. california is the first state in the country to mandate vaccinations for healthcare workers in most settings. workers need to be fully vaccinated where at least receive a second dose. weekly testing was originally
