start your california road trip and visitcalifornia.com anchor: as near record size wildfires continue to burn in california, the sunset across a smoky orange bay area sky tonight. the conditions expected to last until tomorrow. i'm dion lim. you were watching abc seven news at 11 live here on abc seven and wherever you stream. let's get to meteorologist sandy patel. sandhya: and let me tell you this much. we saw signs of improvement as the sun was getting ready to set. let me show you the time-lapse. air quality actually began to get better as we started to see the sea breeze pushing that smoke eastward. so you will notice there is haze in the air, but it was certainly better in san francisco.

its way to becoming the second largest wildfire in california state history. it has torched more than 448,000 nd shotlsigns ofowing down. tonight, at least four people are unaccounted for. abc news reporter serene shaw walks us through some of the devastation. >> tonight, the largest wildfire in the nation continues to torched communities across california. the dixie fire rapidly exploding across four counties, burning nearly 450,000 acres, overwhelming firefighters. the containment level dropping overnight to just 21%. authorities say four firefighters injured fighting the blaze. one recovering in the hospital. five people are now missing is the devastation of the fire is starting to emerge. more than 260 homes and businesses destroyed. in the town of gdas blocks,

the smoke blanketed north diablo. the smoke so thick, the spectacular view was nonexistent. all that smoke sending a not-so-subtle health message. >> will be are telling people is if you smell smoke, you are being affected. please limit your exposure outside, stay indoors. reporter: you can see the smoke from space. the smoke is pushed into the bay area from the monster dixie fire, burning across four northern california counties. plumes of smoke rising as high as 35,000 feet, visible from this commercial jet. and who can forget last september when wildfire smoke turned day into night, creating an apocalyptic orange sky. at the petaluma music festival saturday, john dirks was being careful. >> we were just playing by ear, keeping eyes and ears open and gauging it as we go. reporter: air quality officials have a few tips. they recommend using an indoor air purifier if you have one,

around this. reporter: in danville, tim johnson, abc seven news. dion: a troubling trend involving covid cases with u.s. reporting the fourth straight day with more than 100,000 new cases were ordered. to give you some perspective, the u.s. was averaging about 11,000 cases per day in june. our nation has the most reported cases in the world at more than 35 million and 700. deaths have reached 36,547. the cdc says the disease is spreading among unvaccinated people. taking a live look at san francisco international airport right now, were tourists from around the world are coming to get vaccinated. abc seven news reporter louis peña is part of our vaccine team and spoke to officials and a travel agent about this trend called vaccine tourism. luz: it's the trend bringing

picture tonight from our san jose camera and its lovely view towards the shark tank. air-quality advisory has been extended through sunday through wildfire smoke. mild air-quality expected the next four days. right now as you look at a time-lapse, you will see layer's of smoke, which is right up here, and the fog down below. here's the deal. today, we did see the air-quality impasse. we saw unhealthy air for parts of california. here in the bay area, it was good to moderate. everyone in the green except ukiah in the red. as we head into the upper layer's of the atmosphere, smoky are here locally, and that's what they're dealing with across much of the wildfires of, which is unhealthy air quality, above and down below. it's unhealthy to hazardous from the sierra to northern california. now as you look at the smoke forecast, tomorrow morning that smoke will settle. tomorrow evening, it gets pushed out. we're talking about a stronger

sea breeze. if you want to step outside, maybe grab some dinner or go for a walk, it is going to be fresher, cleaner air. that trend will continue into monday. in the upper parts of the atmosphere is the heavier smoke. it's still going to be lingering, as you notice in the north bay, 3:00 in the afternoon, certainly other parts of california. and that gets pushed out of here as we go into monday, so the blue indicating less smoke right on through monday night, and that obviously is encouraging to see because we do want to have cleaner air so we can breathe easier. live doppler seven shoving you fog near the coastline. that marine layer has been deepening. it is a little bit on the misty side outside, temperatures from the 50's to the 70's at this hour, golden gate bridge camera, watch out tomorrow morning if you have early plans because this is what you will be dealing with, mist and fog. hayes and smoke linger into sunday. breezier error monday, hitting up inland next week.

looking at our weather, how are things going to shape up? sandhya: better in terms of weather quality. it is pretty socked in over san francisco. our air quality tomorrow, the pm 2.5 levels will be 61 to 80, the moderate range. you want to see 50 or less. yes, we will still have smoke, but the sea breeze is going to kick up tomorrow evening, 25, 30 miles per hour. as that wind kicks up, it is going to push smoke out of the bay area. here is a quick look at the forecast. tomorrow morning, still smoke and haze across the region. it is headed into the central valley, not that we want to see them suffering, but it is going to be out of the picture. fog at the coast hangs around near the coast line tomorrow afternoon, mid 60's to low 90's. your monday features warmer weather by a couple degrees. the heat is on. tuesday, wednesday, upper 90's inland.
