with covid. it's raising major concern. >> doctors say we prevented large covid outbreaks in schools last year, but this year could be a different situation because of the more contagious dta variant. d dan lieberman has the latest. >> reporter: houston, texas, a city with nearly 7 million people is down to just 46 icu beds. >> it's impacting all of us. it's actually beginning to threaten health care for people with other problems. >> reporter: nationwide more than 66,000 covid patients are getting care, with an average of 8,000 hospitalizations a day. up more than 300% from last month, the highest number since february. one church leader in jacksonville, florida hosting a vaccination event this weekend

hitting the flames. it's a symptom, scientists say of climate change. the u.n. is out with a landmark report. a three-year study involving more than 200 scientists delivering a stark warning. >> the findings are sobering. there's no getting around that. >> reporter: t says global temperatures could soon rise above the limit that countries pledged to avoid breaching when they signed the paris cliemate deal in 2016. scientists say the world must reduce emissions in half by 2030 and to net zero by 2050 to prevent catastrophic impacts across the globe. for example, they say heat trapped in the ocean could cause sea levels to rise for hundreds pof year. it's not all bad news. they say if the world can come

times. three people have been arrested in the shooting. andrew cuomo's situation takes a dramatic turn. here's abc's meghan tevrizian. >> reporter: another bombshell in the scandal surrounding andrew cuomo, his top aid marisa derosa resigning. she released a statement reading, personally the past two years have been emotionally and mentally trying. i'm forever grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented colleagues. she did not mention cuomo. her resignation coming after a week new york's attorney general

concluded cuomo harassed women. now another woman is speaking publicly. >> there started to be hugs with kisses on the cheek. there was at one point a hug. then when he went to kiss me on the cheek he quickly moved his head and kissed me on the lips. what he did to me was a crime. he broke the law. >> reporter: also telling cbs why she didn't come forward sooner. >> this is the governor of the state of new york. those troopers there are not there to protect me. they're there to protect him. >> reporter: cuomo was seen over the weekend for the first time since releasing his message denying the allegations. his lawyer slamming the ag's investigation as bias. >> he did not grope her. there was evidence that was provided by several individuals to the attorney general about

potential motives for her to have made that claim. i'm not going to get into that now. none of that was included in the record. >> reporter: cuomo's top aid was also implicated in the attorney general's report for allegedly helping retaliate against one of cuomo's accusers. if cuomo refuses to resign, steps on under way to begin a possible impeachment process. time now for a look at your monday weather. this new work week kicks off with rain across many parts of the country. strong storms expected in the midwest, the northern plains and southeast. smoke from fires burning in california will cause poor air quality today. the high temperatures, 97 in kansas city and denver.

happen. the ban on spectators meant these olympics looked and felt nothing like those of the past. the theme of the closing ceremony was "world we share." it began with a video looking back at the games, acknowledging the challenges posed by the coronavirus. the focus was not the records or scores, but the efforts of all the competitors. stunt bikes and light shows part of the celebration. rather than marching in country by country, all the athletes paraded in together, though many had already departed tokyo, required to leave 48 hours after competing. javelin thrower kara winger a four-time olympian, carried the flag for the united states. in the final day of competition the u.s. women's basketball team defeated japan 90-75 for their seventh consecutive gold medal. the women also bringing home the united states' first medal in volleyball after defeating brazil. the u.s. finishing with 39 gold medals, edging out china for the top spot. team usa bringing home a total of 113 medals. tokyo passed the torch to paris.
