you see ruins still smoldering left in the fire's wake. it all happened in a couple of hours. wayne freedman is their life. >> what's the latest you are hearing? wayne: we are in unincorporated lake county right now, somewhere between lower lake and clear lake, and these are the remains of the cache creek mobile home park. we will show you the desolation and damage of everything that rolled through earlier this afternoon. burn homes as far as you can see. 360 degrees of burned homes. even across the street 100 yards away, more burn homes and burnt propane tanks, so when they say 25 or 30 homes burned, based on what we are seeing here, it may be worse. the cash prior -- the cache

fire rolled through here. we spoke with one of the people who live in this mobile home park. he was on thehe had only the clt it was just like it was a flash flyer. i did not have any warning. had to get out. sally flames coming up behind my place. just loaded up my dogs and my family and got out of there. not much warning. none at all. >> how fast was it moving? >> moving very fast. they were about two to four feet high, the flames. gone, all gone up here. it is ash. i don't even recognize it. wayne: now you are looking at

even more damage. as we walked through here, it remains a dangerous. . to our right, we have seen sheriff's deputies driving through here. a moment ago, there there theree one pet, one dog wandering through who appeared to be all right, but they are trying to get that dog to safety at this point. those are lake county sheriff's. i don't know exactly what they are looking for. we don't believe there have been any human deaths or injuries, but that is not confirmed. there has been a large response, actually, from calfire and fire districts across the bay area. especially with helicopters and planes and in some cases, even jets jumping on this fire, and

being fairly effective, i would say. the livestock have not fared as well. i spoke about this at 5:00. we saw six goats that were burned, three of them did not make it. deputies were trying to rescue the other three. we believe they were successful and that the goats are going to be all right, but to summarize, conditions appear to have improved, but it is too late for the cache creek mobile home park. everything around here destroyed. we do believe there are more than 25 or 30 mobile homes destroyed just based on what we see in this one spot. >> thank you. let's take another live look from sky 7. the charred remains, fire retardant on top of that. at least 100 acres burned. officials are estimating at least 135 you heard the man wayne talked

to. he had no warning about the fire. just evacuated his family. an evacuation center has been set up at placerville high school. residents in the fire zone are also seeing power outages. this is the pg&e power outages map. more than 700 customers are in the dark in lower lake. the purple you see on the map, those are areas where power has already been shut off, par par r the outage caused by high fire danger in the area. pg&e does not have an estimate on when electricity may be restored. dan: once again, lake county bearing the brunt of the wildfires. it has been a frantic afternoon trying to save lives and homes. let's get the latest on the efforts by firefighters and officials. sheriff, how are you? thanks for coming on.

i know you are very busy. let's start, if we would, with the status quo right this minute . >> ask like highway 29 and highway 53 are either in the process of opening up or will be shortly. we still have about 1600 people under mandatory evacuation warnings. our initial damage estimates we scaled back, and we will do some further inspections. we are bumping those estimates up to probably 50 or so homes. fire activity still active, still burning within the interior area. calfire looks like they've it stopped, but that does not mean it is safe. there are still fires burning in the area that still pose a danger. >> this has all transpired in the last couple of hours, so of

course, there is still a danger in terms of flames. you see the estimate now is 50 to 60 homes in that mobile home park, correct? did everyone get out? >> we don't know. right now we do not have any reports of missing people. we have one civilian injury. we are going to be checking to see if there are any additional casualties. we are hopeful that there's not, but we cannot say that for sure at this time. dan: obviously calfire and fire fighters gone on this very quickly. it spread remarkably fast and and a norma's amount of damage, destroying those d, 60 homes in a couple of hours at the most. spr qly the flames move? >> i'm always surprised how fast these fires move. this is an extremely dry year with the drought. it is a tinderbox here. conditions were just prime

we hope for the best that these things don't happen, but this time of year, in this type of environment, it is always dangerous. dan: what is thehehehe next few hours tonight? what are you going to be doing? >> lines are probably going to be affected by these fires, so that might hamper some of our efforts to get the power turned on. we will see. folks up here are going through a lot with the power shutoffs and whenever we have a fire like this that impacts power lines, so we will be working on that. pg&e working with our fire crews. lost their homes have someplace to shelter, at least for the

jump. let me show you the conditions near the cache fire right now. 13% humidity. when gusting out of the north. red flag warning's remain up. the next round of wind will be gusty but not quite as strong as what we experienced last night into this morning, which was 50 mile-per-hour gusts. humidity will still be dry. record dry fuels. any fires that develop quickly spread. take a look at the air across our region. it is absolutely horrible. air quality is being impacted. notice it is orange there in concord. livermore in the red, which is unhealthy air quality. we do have an air quality advisory that has been extended through friday. conditions are not ideal.

we are not out of danger just yet. ,: thank you, sandy. evacuation orders are expanding in the area around the caldera fire. people living along sections of highway 50 heading up to lake tahoe, including the community of carvers, have been ordered to leave their homes. el dorado national forest has been ordered to shut down. this fire exploded over the last 24 hours, destroying the community of grizzly flats. the fire destroyed nearly 50,000 acres since it broke out on saturday. it is 0% contained. 30 engine crews riding the dixie fire were moved to the cal door fire. the dixie fire has expanded to 993 square miles. it is 33% contained. the fire has been burning since july 14 and is advancing toward susanville. new evacuation orders went into

effect last night. when it comes to evacuating, here's a reminder to take with you enough food and water for everyone in your house to last three days, enough clothing to last a week. don't forget important documents, the battery-powered radio, an emergency supply kit with first aid. leave a note telling others when you left and where you are going. and we want to make sure you are prepared for any wildfire or any emergency.

transported to a hospital out of county. the fire started around 1:00 this afternoon. we talked to a man who lives in the mobile home park and says he had no warning. he just saw flames, grabbed his family and pets and got out. dan: haze area. it is unavoidable. leslie brinkley is live on the heels of the east bay where the view of mount diablo was obscured by smoke today. the a qi is about 135 where i am. if you go further east out towards diablo, it gradually gets a little worse. the good news is that this afternoon, pg&e announced they were beginning to turn on power for folks who lost power yesterday.

instead of cutting power to 51,000 customers as was planned, pg&e ended up pulling the plug for shutdowns on only 48 thousand customers in northern california. as pg&e starts turning the power back on, customers in the lonoke, napa, and sonoma counties may have to be patient. here in the bay, counties are impacted. that could be potentially early tomorrow afternoon. there's always the possibility that could either move up or potentially move back, but that is where we expect the timeframe to be. turning the morning sun orange and graying out the horizon. that's why the they air quality management district has put out an advisory this week.

>> at times it will settle down to ground level, but we are not expecting air quality to be worse than moderate or maybe high moderate at times. we are not expecting air quality standards to be exceeded. leslie: fire officials see the smoke as an ominous sign as the worst fire season looms ahead. >> the dixie fire is the worst fire in history that has crested going from the west side to the east side. we are also getting into the part of the season where weather conditions started driving fire behavior. leslie: the bay area air q management district recommends monitoring air quality on fire. air.gov. they take the data gathered by popular crowdsourcing sites and mix it up with data they get from government devices. it gives you a really good sense

that will happen tonight, which is why the red flag warning is going through tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. 65 in the city, 73 in mounta inn view, san jose, 35. pacifica, 65 degrees. hazy skies in san jose right now, and those temperatures being held down by the smoke and the haze. our air quality locally, notice that pretty much everyone anywhere from moderate, which is a yellow, to about red which is unhealthy air quality in the inland east bay, you have to get down toward the santa cruz area to have good air quality. all of this coming from the wildfires burning to our north and northeast, which is why their air quality is suffering as well. it is smoky out there, without a doubt. that will continue tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. still some heavy smoke and haze
