people had to evacuate because of this fire which covers 75 acres on the border of lower lake and clearlake. >> this map of evacuation zones is updated in real times. the red zones are for evacuation orders. that is where you have to leave. the yellow zones are evacuation warnings, not mandatory that you leave but certainly recommended. >> we have team coverage on the firefight and the conditions. let's begin with wayne and what it is like in clearlake. wayne: it is quiet -- more quiet than it was. not quiet by normal standards. this is an unincorporated county. burned homes as far as we can see in 360 degrees. we are now hearing

moved through here without warning, fast-moving flames driven by winds. he had nothing left but the clothes on his back. here is a little of what he had to say. todd: i did not have any warning. i just loaded up my dogs and my family and got out of there. my house is gone. all gone. >> we know of only one injury so far. we don't know if there are others yet. sheriff's deputies have been looking for more possible injuries. six goats that were burning.

we were told that three of six goats will survive. they were taken away by animal control. rebecca lives nearby and this is what she told us. >> three out of eight goats made it. all three will live. out of the bad. the damage is on both sides of the road. evidence of how fast and furious those flames were. o couveow ft they were. the frenzy has died down but it is too late park behind us. wayne freedman, abc 7. >> we certainly feel terribly for todd and all the other residents who wish them the

best. >> there are some power outages in the clearlake area because of the fire but they have improved. you can see the orange and yellow sections. those areas are smaller than they were earlier. the purple sections indicated a power shut off where pg&e intentionally turned off the power to reduce the risk of firefighters -- wildfires. >> my pointed out that today's fire was different than usual. >>'s fire, the cash fire was very unique. what we have seen in the past is fires have started in more remote unincorporated regions and burned into communities. with the cash fire, the fire started in the community, the incorporated community of clearlake. because of the tinderbox conditions, the brush is so dry. because we had 20 or 30 mile-per-hour wind gusts, the

fire spread incredibly quickly as you reporter had reported. -- your reporter, wayneeporter,e had reported. >> this is the largest freshwater lake in the state. the water level is low but there is still enough. >> it has plenty of water for these efforts. our aircraft are flying over. they're pulling in water from that area. we have some larger air tankers flying to the various air force bases. we are in ok shape as far as that goes. >> check out out out o from the air. you can see how much smoke there is in the air. at one point, they were unsure they would be able to fly in these conditions but they are. we are giving you a live view from sky seven. it is just hard to see that

whole area just burned. you can see the fire retardant there but this is just people's homes and lives destroyed. firefighters will be out there for some time as they keep those hotspots to a minimum and start the cleanup. >> 50 or 60 mobile homes there destroyed. the smoke from this fire could be seen and smelled all around the bay area. check out these live pictures showing the north bay, the east bay in the center and then the southbay on your right. no one has blue sky tonight. a lot of hayes, lots of smoke. it looks more like los angeles than san francisco. let's bring in spencer christian. we had gone from moderate air quality earlier today to poor

air quality in parts of the bay area right now. let me give you a look at the conditions of the fire. extremely low humidity, equally important factors here. the relative humidity is dangerously low. the steady wind is relatively light. there are occasional gusts. we remain under red flag warning. wind gusts may pick up during the early morning hours tomorrow and even intensify. relative committee will main dangerously low. here is a look at our wind gust animation. we have gusts that will taper off lightly and early morning hours and then going into the daytime hours tomorrow, we will see those wind gusts intensify.

out of the north. into tomorrow, the continuing buildup of smoke in the bay area. that will push some of that smoke to our east. >> evacuation orders are expanding this evening in the area around the cow door fire. burning in el dorado county. people are heading up to lake tahoe including this community that have been ordered to leave their homes. el dorado national forest have been shut down. the fire destroyed the community of grizzly flats. home to about 3800 people. the fire is 0% contained. >> firefighters on the front line of the dixie fire say shifting wind and read fly conditions are making their jobs so much harder. a gigantic fire has burned at

least 635,000 acres. the perimeter of the fire continues to spread with flames pushed by wind gusts and dry committee over northern california. containment did inch up just a little bit to 31%. if memory serves, it was 31% contained yesterday. you can see all of the fires burning in california at a glance. just look for this wildfire tracker. >> let's turn to the coronavirus pandemic. we continue to update you on this. the state just announced that people will have to show proof of vaccination. keep in mind, big used to mean 5000 people. soon it will mean 1000 people. this takes effect statewide on september 20. that is a week after california's recall election. also making headlines. new cdc reports that shows the effectiveness of vaccines diminishing over time. resident biden announced those that received the pfizer or

moderna vaccine's will be eligible for a booster shot. >> when your eight month mark comes up, you will be ready to get your vaccination free, booster shot free and we have it available. it will make you safer and for longer. >> booster shots will be offered to all americans smart on september 20. groups will be prioritized in phases. health department across the bay area are already preparing to reopen mass vaccination sites to administer the shots. stephanie sierra is following the latest for us live from the newsroom tonight. stephanie: we are hearing from most of the area. this means mass vaccination sites will likely be back but it won't be immediate. most counties are still waiting specific guidance from the state on how to move forward. covid-19 booster shots will soon be available at your local

doctor's office or health care systems as soon september 20. >> the booster will be administered at the eight month mark. if you got vaccinated and finished your vaccination in january, he would start being eligible in september. >> all americans received their second dose at least eight months ago will be eligible but the cdc says health care providers and nursing home residents will be prioritized first. >> we will have to set up more large-scale and musician -- immunization sites. >> health officers are awaiting formal guidance on distribution from the state but most have indicated it will mirror the initial rollout. san mateo county says their plan will likely include mass vaccination sites where san francisco county is hoping to avoid that in the beginning. >> as of now, you don't have to do any additional mass vaccination sites because a lot of that will go through health

the number of people evacuated out of the country at 5000. small teams of military troops have been deployed at the entrances of the kabul airport to process visa applications from tens of thousands of people looking to evacuate. u.s. forces on the ground say the situation has stabilized at the airport but is still very dangerous. speaking in front of reporters today, lloyd austin spoke of the chaos the past few days and the impact of the american withdrawal from afghanistan. >> i know the country, i know the people and those who fought alongside me. as i said, we have a moral obligation to help those who helped us. i feel the urgency deeply. >> evacuation flights out of kabul are specter to increase in the coming days. secretary austin says there have been no competitions with the taliban and that u.s. military commanders are speaking with the new regime. in an is list of interview with

the outages are shown here on this map in pink. there are a few hundred customers in sonoma and solano county's. thousands in napa. everyone's power is expected to be restored by tomorrow. it is something we are watching closely. let's turn to the weather. >> spencer is tracking conditions across the region. really low humidity. there was a real problem there. spencer: it has been as big a problem as the wind. the fuel and v v v v v record dry levels. we'll see how easy it is for the fire to spread. let's look at the air quality. there is greater concentration of smoke. as you getou getou get immediate bay area, we have moderate buildup of smoke.

you can see this clearly. this is the air quality forecast. we have air quality advisories through the end of the week so we expect moderate air quality over the next few weeks. we expect significant improvement. we will stay with this, looking at the haze over san francisco. the current temperatures reading at 64 degrees. the view from emeryville's again, you can see the smoke in the air and the haze through tomorrow. 72 degrees in santa rosa. fairfield -- -- -- -- 69 at napa. we are getting a bit of or yellowish hue. these are our forecast features. the next round of gusty winds will happen during the morning hours.

smoky hazy skies will be with us the next couple of days. overnight low temperatures will be in the upper 50's to low 60's. re oakland, 73. in land, east bay, 99. skies. the high temperatures up to the in land. then we have a sharp cold down as our air quality improves. we see the high temperatures reaching into the mid-80's. then we will have a gradual warm-up starting on monday. that will take us into warmer weather by mid next week. >> coming up, some controversy when it comes to california's recall election.

evacuation orders, warnings and road to just remain in effect. quite the fire activity is still active. it is burning burning burning bi area. there is still a lot of fire within the area. that poses a danger. >> the sheriff told me in that interview that at least one civilian was heard. here are some videos from reporters. it all just moved so fast. on the abc 7 news at and the app for the connected tv's. >> smoke from the cash fire. the conditions proctored the bay area district to issue an air quality advisory through friday.

>> we will see some of it dropping down to ground level. we are not expecting ground-level air quality to be healthy. most of it will stay aloft just because of the weather conditions. >> experts say if you begin to smell smoke, it is probably a good idea to go inside. >> less talk about those conditions a bit more in the fire line. we will bring spencer back in. >> how does the forecast look for firefighters and for us? >> those smoky skies have contributed to a decline in our air quality. those red, orange an dots are indicating very few green dots. the air quality here at the surface has not been as bad as you might think. these are the current current ct conditions, relative humidity only 15%. that is very low.

the gusts have been up to about 18 or 20 miles per hour. this area remains under a red flag warning through tomorrow. there may be gusts. this is our wind gusts animation showing that even as the wind tapers off a little bit tonight, strong wind gusts could develop during the early morning hours tomorrow. we are looking at smoke continuing to be blown down into the bay area on this forecast animation. you can see that we expect a favorable onshore flow late friday. that will put some of that smoke away. >> good to hear. >> we use the abc 7 news app to send out push alerts so that you knew about today's cash fire as soon as possible. download so that you will find out about breaking news as soon as it happens. >> first the car and then the

garage and then the whole house. there tesla burst into flames in the garage and they want answers from the fremont automaker. so far, they have not gotten any. michael is here with their story and the effort to get some help. >> pretty scary. it was an early morning fire on december 30. it happened as their 2013 model charged overnight. the fire quickly spread to their second tesla and then burned through the rest of their home. 5:30 in the morning, fearful the winds could kick the flames into the surrounding area. this is video captured by a neighboring security camera. the couple escaped out the back of the house through their downstairs bedroom. >> luckily, had we been upstairs, at think we would not be standing here today. >> this is video that yogi shot with his cell phone.

the intense flames and smoke force them out. -- forced them out. at first, he suspected the fire had started in his upstairs office where his computers are always powered up. he soon discovered that was not the case. >> as soon as i saw flames outside, i knew it was in the garage. you can see the flames coming from both cars. when i saw my phone later, that the charging had been interrupted, not completed. >> he is referring to two text messages sent to him by tesla. the first said charging interrupted at 5:25 a.m. with battery at 180 miles. moments later, a second message from tesla. car alarm has been triggered. here is what is left of the two cars after the fire. an investigation by the san ramon valley fire department

narrowed the cause down to either the tesla battery or the vehicle's electric system. the national highway traffic safety system launched an investigation into the batteries used through -- from the 2012 to 2019 models as through x. that investigation is -- s those models are still being investigated. >> they have a bad habit of not making transparent was going on. it is rather unclear. can the agency not get to the bottom of what is causing these fires? do they not know, do they k and have not had a chance to share that information? we just don't know. quite the hc says it does not comment on ongoing investigations. yogi would like tesla to replace

follow a larger pool of participants for a longer time to spot any side effects. >> we still have lots and lots of people who want to participate in the trial. i don't think that will be an issue. it is just a matter of timing. >> pressure for a pediatric vaccine approval is increasing. not just with the delta variants but the rising toll it is taking on younger patients and the concern that is creating for many parents. >> the american academy of pediatrics is also already pointing to some of the largest week to week percentage increases in kitty -- pediatric covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. governor newsom recently announced additional steps requiring teachers and school employees to be vaccinated or undergo regular covid testing. while the numbers are clearly concerning, dr. malden auto believes the risk to students is still manageable. >> the reality is the children

>> santa clara county medical center is rolling out a new mobile vaccine unit in an effort to get more shots into people's arms. this is a self-contained vaccination clinic with everything needed to hold a public clinic in hard-to-reach priority areas. >> we are using these at parks and festivals. at nightclubs a couple of times. i was told they were not supposed to be there. we are going -- quick santa clara county has fully vaccinated 80% of all

eligible residents. the county is helping this mobile clinic will help get all of that higher. the mobile unit was paid for entirely by donations. >> san francisco opened up a new coronavirus testing site capable of handling 500 appointments per day. tim johns has more on the effort as we approach the indoor vaccine mandate. >> 18 months into the pandemic, there is one word on everyone's mind. >> the delta variant is now here. >> covid cases in san francisco hitting their third-highest peak in august, the city has pulled out two new weapons. the first is a mass testing site which opened its doors wednesday. the second is the city's vaccine mandate which comes into effect this friday. >> if we wanted to continue going about our lives, eating at restaurants and enjoying
