with a gun. next during the interaction between the person who matched the description of the shooter and the officer, the officer fired their service weapon at the suspect. >> police say they are interviewing officers and witnesses to get more details. >> oakland police say a person shot by officers is in the hospital in stable conditions at the la quinta inn at the coliseum. police say the individual was wanted on a criminal warrant for manslaughter and to think firearms were recovered at the scene. >> in the south bay, more than 100 homes are under evacuation orders because of a gas leak. a third-party contractor hit a natural gas line just before 10:00 a.m. the fire department says the situation later escalated and homes and businesses will be evacuated until at least 8:00 a.m. a shelter was set up at the community center. pg&e is continuing to vent the line. pears will begin tomorrow morning.

community members are in shock tonight after a freight train slammed into a vehicle, killing a 12-year-old boy. >> a collision happened this afternoon at east cypress road and main street. ryan with reaction from the community. ryan: it is a somber day for members of the oakland community. before 1:00 p.m. wednesday, a car crashed with a train. a 12-year-old boy died and a 19-year-old woman was sent to the hospital with critical injuries. >> i saw a big cloud of just and then i saw the train come to a halt and then everyone got out. there was some attention being paid so i got out of mike ryan looked and i saw the suv sitting there. ryan: the 12-year-old was a student at delta middle school. >> we don't want people dying from our school and stuff like that. that's heartbreaking for our school. ryan: he said share that a delta vista student passed away earlier today as a result of the vehicle accident.

advance towards lake tahoe which is 20 miles away. >> looks like snow. that is actually ash raining down in lake tahoe tonight, floating across the screen. this is a live picture. stagnant smoke and swirling ash have filled the sky for several days as we get the latest. you can see it right there. we know it is happening and it is really affecting air quality. >> meteorologist sandhya patel has a look at the impact. sandhya: we are looking at the impacts continuing through the middle of next week in the lake tahoe area. let me show you the conditions from the tahoe area today and this is just a timelapse showing you what it looked like. the fire surrounding tahoe is so explosive that it is really hard to get rid of the smoke and you can see it here on the satellite perspective and there are new fires burning southwest of tahoe. air quality at this hour, unhealthy in red for south lake tahoe. carson city is hazardous. as we look at the smoke

means the tower at mission and fremont is leaning five inches on the top as the february -- as of february of last year, it already sank a 17 inches since first opening in 2009. this construction work is a multimillion dollar project to fix that problem. now, accelerated settlement, which is due to construction activities related to installation of 36 inch and 24 inch casings has been seen. basically, that work has consisted of 52 piles being drilled. 250 feet into bedrock. three times deeper than the current piles used with a goal of stabilizing the building. now, more sinking. worrisome to some but not former san francisco mayor willie brown who lives here and believes in those working on the project. >> $100 million and it is is i brains of m.i.t. who made the assessment to go all the way

down to bedrock. j.r.: in 2016, you may remember the homeowner who put this golf ball on the floor of a millennium tower unit and then started rolling, signifying the tilt of the building and leading towards lawsuits. construction work has now been stopped for two weeks to four weeks while engineers work in determining how to solve this issue going forward. with so many people focused on his building, he says he believes it is safe and says he will sleep just fine at night. >> no trouble at all. as a matter of fact, i will be sleeping better because i know it will not be too long before someone offers me a lot more than we pay for it. >> while there has been tilting, there's been no material harm to the actual building. it remains fully safe. j.r. stone, abc 7 news. ama: abc 7 news confirmed the cdc is working on establishing a timeline to prioritize specific

groups to get covid-19 booster shots but how long should we wait in between doses? stephanie sierra has a look at the timeline. stephanie: covid-19 booster shots will be here in less than a month. for those of you who received the single dose johnson & johnson vaccine, should you rush to get one? >> if i was a healthy 30-year-old, i'm sure i would run out to get a booster. if i was 70 and got j&j, i probably would. >> there covid-19 booster vaccine increased antibodies nine fold, 28 days after the first shot. but it's important to note this study is based off the results of 17 people. the bigger question is if you got your j&j shot eight months ago, should you get one or two additional doses? >> two is better than one. it does look like one additional dose of one of the mrnas, whether it does bump your immunity from your j&j up considerably. stephanie: any delay in the

timeline of rolling out boosters could impact the severity of future covid surges. >> you are going to create a longer window of potentially waning immunity. people could get infected. stephanie: health care workers in nursing home residents will be eligible in september. it is expected people over 70 will be next and the general population and adolescence will follow by december or january. >> there are questions about the dosages as well. was there too much, too little? that is being worked out for all the pediatric vaccines. >> experts are trying to determine if the gap between doses for pfizer and moderna was long enough to make the second shot the most effective. >> if you have a little bit more of a space in between, you get over your primary immune reaction and then you are at a point where you can get a secondary immune reaction. >> you think a longer waiting period will be recommended moving forward? >> if this was more leisurely,
