we have been onshore flow. moderate air quality as high pressure builds and the temperatures go up. but this morning we are cooler. four degrees cooler in the peninsula and south bay. it will even out as we get into the morning, when we will be in the 60's. upper 60's and 70's by noon. and warming into the low 90's around concord. and it will be cool with the sea breeze at the coast. >> in the south bay, more than 100 homes under evacuation orders still because of a gas leak. a third-party contractor supposedly hit a gas line yesterday. the fire department says the situation escalated later, and homes and businesses will be evacuated until 8:00 a.m. a shelter was open, but closed last night. pg&e is venting the line and we

have a crew going to the scene. >>and po chief is expected to reveal why police shot a man. it happened yesterday on enterprise way. we were over the area as investigators were on the scene. police say the man was wanted on a criminal warrant for manslaughter. they say he was taken to the hospital. neighbors and oakley say they are in shock after a freight train slammed into a vehicle, killing a 12-year-old boy. it happened yesterday afternoon at east cypress road and main street. >> it is a somber day for members of the community. just before 1:00 p.m. wednesday, a car crashed with a train. a 12-year-old boy died, a 19-year-old was sent to the hospital with injuries. >> i saw the cloud of dust and i saw the train come to a grinding halt. everybody got out, there was

day, community members want to the family to know that they support them. >> i will pray for them. we have so many things going on right now, trauma left and right. >> now to the latest covid-19 news. cal osha is recommending people wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. moderna has completed its submission to the food and drug administration for full approval of its vaccine. it is still under emergency use authorization. the fda gave full approval to pfizer on monday, and now they are asking the agency to consider a supplemental application for booster shots. we have confirmed the cdc is working on establishing a timeline to prioritize groups to get covid-19 booster shots. it appears health care workers and nursing care residents will be eligible in september.

say they are extremely worried. >> we understand that they athea still in homes with family and friends, so we are hopeful. jobina: the state department has issued a warning, telling u.s. citizens to avoid traveling to the airport in kabul because of security threats. the alert also warned any americans gathering at three specific gates to leave immediately, adding, be aware of surroundings at all times. it's not clear what prompted the advisory, but earlier the secretary of state expressed concern about threats from the new branch of isis dubbed isis k. helicopter missions are rescuing people behind alabama lines and the state department says they will keep evacuating people after august 31, but they have not explained how. the white house says they have evacuated more than 95,000 people.

and how we will have hotter days on friday and saturday, coming up. kumasi: more than 90 wildfires are raging in the west, and here the conditions are hampering efforts to battle these blazes. we are at the desk tracking all of this. jobina: 16 fires in california are considered major fires right now. new video shows the intense conditions firefighters are up against at the caldor fire. these claims are pushing near highway 50 towards khyber's, 300 miles from tahoe. no buildings have burned so far, but the air quality is hazardous. to the south, matt gutman was on the front lines of a fire that broke out yesterday and destroyed 12 homes. he gives perspective on one of the many challenges for calfire. reporter: it is burning in so many places and firefighters cannot reach every hotspot.

entrances, is dangerous. we are concerned about our own people. kumasi: the f at 7:00 a.m. reggie: millennium tower is sinking again. that is forcing repair work to stop. we take a look at the new challenges engineers are facing. reporter: it may look normal at millennium tower, but loading representatives say construction work has been halted due tomorrow sinking, this time another inch. that means the tower in fremont is leaning five inches on the top. the building has already sank 17 inches from opening in 2009. the construction work is a multimillion dollar project to fix the problem, but exhilarated settlement, due to installation of 36 inch and 24 inch casings

kumasi: happening today, in honor of women's equality day, san francisco is launching the w challenge to encourage women to exercise the right to vote. the house speaker will be kicking off an event at city hall. and the city administrator helped launch the challenge after numbers showed a gap when it came to women voting. four of the 46 candidates and the recall election debated last night. this was the first debate to include a democrat, who joined john cox and kevin faulkner on the stage. the first question was about vaccine mandates. >> our way out of covid. we want everybody to be healthy and safe, but the best way to do that is to educate people to get the vaccine, and that is the way
