we are lookingngngng bringing down some warmer air anywhere from 2 to warmer today. skies are clear for the most part. 58 fremont. live look where you notice it is clear. temperatures this morning climbing quickly. by 9:00 70 inland. mid 80's by noon. by the afternoon, we have triple digits. mid 80's around the bay. we will talk about how long this hazy pattern lasts in a few minutes. >> now to the very latest in the aftermath of the bombing attacks outside the kabul airport. >> it is the deadliest attack on u.s. forces in afghanistan in a decade. at least 13 servicemembers were killed. 18 wounded. the death toll among afghan citizens is expected to rise. up to 90 afghans may have been killed.

in the u.s., flags are being flown at half staff as the race to evacuate americans from kabul grows more frantic. flights resumed overnight. we have more from our nations capital. >> good morning. as we learn more about those deadly attacks in kabul yesterday, the new report says the u.s. military gave the taliban a list of americans who need to be evacuated. this morning, the u.s. military is bracing for more potential attacks in afghanistan after thursday's deadly bombings outside cobbles airport. the military says isis-k sworn enemy of the taliban, is claiming responsibility. a suicide bomber struck an airport gate just yards from u.s. forces who were processing afghans for flights. moments later, a second bomber attacked a nearby hotel.

may be a list of names, there may have been. >> up to 1000 americans remain in afghanistan. >> 23 students from the san diego area were also stuck in afghanistan. we are hearing most of them are on their way back home. there are some still stuck. >> thank you. an afghan refugee who just escaped the east bay less than a week ago now mourning the loss of a family member. he was one of the ones killed in the kabul suicide attacks. we first introduced you to this person earlier this week. this morning, our reporter is live in the newsroom with his story. >> we just talked to him on tuesday. he made it out of afghanistan, made it to sandra. some of his family members were trying to do the same. they were at the kabul airport when the bomb went off.

he told them find marines and show them your documents. the next call he got was after the explosion. his cousin had been killed. his brother is in the icu with a headache. -- head injury. he says other family members are confused about what they should do now. >> i need help. i don't want to lose anyone. >> with the u.s. government, helping with security, logistics, construction, and interpreting. he believes that makes them taliban targets. he is worried. he wants to get the rest of his family out of the country. he says he is not sure how to safely do that. >> with us. a gold star mother is sharing

the grief with people who lost their loved ones yesterday. images from the kabul airport hit diane lane field hard. seven years ago, her son was killed along with 10 u.s. service members in an ambush attack in iraq. travis was from fremont and attended washington high school before coming in marine at 19. now his mom is fearing the thought of more american families getting that news she got into thousand four. >> my heart goes out to them -- got in 2004. >> my heart goes out to them. i know they are just waiting in anticipation. i just wrap my love around them and pray they make it through. >> diane says if she could give these families her phone number, she would. she wants each person to know the community is there for them. >> many people have asked how they can help people escape

themselves. 10 large wild are burning in california. the dixie fire is burning in butte county and plumas county. it is now reaching 45% containment. crews are starting to make some progress on the flames. evacuation orders in the western zone were reduced to warnings. the other major fire is the caldor fire. this is video near gusty winds and dry conditions are causing the fire to spread northeast. christmas valley is under an evacuation warning as more than 18,000 structures remain threatened. >> i never thought i would see a fire like this here again. where i live going to go. >> the fire has consumed 140 thousand acres.

the bombing in afghanistan. she has flown back to washington, bc -- d.c. nearly 2 million california voters have returned their recall ballots. she confirms to abc 7 news she has filed a police report over an incident from six years ago. she claims the conservative talk show host brandished a gun at her during an argument about their breakup. he pushed her during what she calls a fit of drug-induced anger. the lapd confirms they are investigating. >> domestic violence is a crime. that applies to everybody. >> earlier this month, elder denied the claims and allegations, tweeting i have never brandished a gun at

anyone. it is not me. everyone who knows me knows it is not me. every voter is getting a mail-in ballot for this recall election because of the pandemic. you only have until monday to register to vote. after that, you can do a conditional registration up until election day. >> federal oversight of the oakland police department could come to an end. opd was put under control of a monitor and federal judge in 2003 after a series of abuses and civil rights violations. now civil rights attorneys who filed the lawsuit that prompted the federal investigation say the department is ready to go on its own. some disagree because opd has not competed five of the 52 mandated reforms. federal health officials are are concerned about an alarming increase in fake vaccination cards among college students.

attacks. we have the latest on the frantic race to evacuate americans and afghan allies. >> u.s. evacuation flights have continued from the kabul airport. u.s. and allied forces are on high alert for another possible terrorist attack. preston biden is pledging to complete the evacuation of americans and afghan allies by august 31. the president vowed to put down the terrorists -- to hunt down the terrorists. the associated press reports as many as 95 afghans may be dead. more than 100 wounded. isis-k claims responsibility for the attack. that included two suicide bombings and gunfire. this morning, cecilia vega speaks to a former army ranger who got out just before the attacks. he says they were vulnerable to an attack. >> normally doing operations in

singled out two in northern california experiencing the highest percentage increases in the number of fire days. a large swath that includes grizzly flats and paradise. the epicenters of fires like dixie. >> we have seen a major change in the conditions. what we are seeing today is unlike anything before. >> that percentage change can add up to two weeks of extra fire days per year. while the specific cause of a fire can always very, factors like the drought and climate change have likely played a part in making the landscape more volatile. decades of change that kalin weber can now track with measurements and memories. >> these weather conditions are coming together more frequently. that is putting us in a lot more danger. >> that is interesting.

they continue to say it looks like the fire is not going to get to lake tahoe, but it is way too close for comfort. >> there are certainly some granite cliffs that would not be fire inducing. a point mike had made his although we are getting the heat and dry conditions, we do not have the wind in this weather pattern. usually that is reminiscent of our fall pattern that is just a week away. we have not reached that. we are dry. this little pattern into the weekend will bring us two out of three elements. hot weather and dry conditions, the wind not as gusty. no advisory. we are looking at a pattern that is typical but something we are watching, not warranted for the next coming days because we are so dry.

we have had that shield of low clouds and fog that has been protecting us all summer long with a good onshore flow and some cooler weather for the summer. as we look at the air quality today, tomorrow, sunday, moderate with hazy conditions coming our way. looking at 60's. it is much warmer than it was yesterday. we had a lot of dense fog in the north bay. the marine layer just at the coast, along the central coast. waking up to clear skies that will turn hazy. you may notice that as you step out. there is the fog early. look what happens. hitting swept off the coast. it does not return until late tomorrow. it is only patchy. we will reach our peak heat conditions saturday. area of low pressure on the coast sunday. that will bring us more cooling. look for 84 in sunnyvale.
