mid 90's, another hot day but concerned about a red warning in effect. wind see out of the west southwest. this goes through tuesday night and a look at the current winds shows the cr nevada will be looking at the winds gusting over 25 and 30 miles per hour. this is the timeframe on tuesday night. look what happens as we get later in the day. it could gust to over 30 miles per hour. not a good scenario, high will fan the flames. we will watch it and talk about the cooling trend in detail in the next few minutes. >> developing news out of louisiana. the damage after hurricane ida being described as catastrophic. this is a live look at what things look like, much calmer from what we have seen in the

tahoe has evaluated all of its patients. amy hollyfield his with the latest. amy: homes burned down yesterday along highway 50 south of the town of myers. that city is facing mandatory evacuations. we got this video into the newsroom of a hospital that is now evacuating. this is barton memorial in south lake tahoe. they are moving the 16 patients they have two a nearby surgery center to try to get out of the way of the path of the fire. evaluation warnings in place for all of south lake tahoe. fire fighters say the crews are stretched thin and there is no sign of this fire slowing down. >> it is concerning. i have to keep my eye on the task at hand, get the burning materials away, fuel tanks, gas tanks, get them away from the house, anything that can burn. >> it has been very difficult for all personnel. everyone has been taxed as we

move from fire to fire throughout the state. kumasi: help is coming in from all around the country, including inmates who worked to cut down trees and build fire lines. firefighters say strong winds are making this a tough fight and they are really worried about the conditions. they say yesterday was a rough day and the fire was more aggressive than anticipated. amy: live in the newsroom, amy hollyfield. reggie: multiple rockets fired at the kabul airport but some were intercepted. abc news reports no u.s. forces were hit. the deadline to withdraw now less than put four hours away. jobina: as many as five rockets fired at the kabul airport. the antimissile system intercepted at least some of them. it does not look let there are any casualties. the deadline to withdraw from afghanistan is tomorrow. the state department said 250 citizens are in the country.

most of the military members still there are racing to evacuate americans and afghan allies from the kabul airport. our chief global affairs correspondent is on gma talking about the evacuations. martha: the emphasis on forced protection does seem to be limiting the number of evacuees adding onto the airport grounds. the unofficial groups trying to rescue americans and afghans say many have been unable to get into the airport, even those flashing american passports pretty u.s. ambassador in kabul denies that. jobina: yesterday president biden and the first lady met with the families of the 13 servicemembers killed in the attack. biden and high-ranking officials attended. president biden has directed homeland security to take the lead in resettling refugees. kumasi: today is your last day to register to vote in the recall election. registration forms must be

moving closer to south lake tahoe and the conditions in louisiana after item move through. good morning on this monday, august 30. we are live on abc 7, hulu live, and wherever you stream. kumasi: we want to start with a check of the forecast. lisa: good news back home as low clouds and fog with us down through san jose as the blanket of stratus has expanded to 1400 feet. this morning, we are cloudy along the peninsula. 60 in redwood city. 57 in san bruno. if to six with fog, mild his ability -- 56 with fog, mild visibility. moderate air quality toward the east bay. as we check on the tahoe region, it looks good. we have some moderate air quality. in nevada, poor air quality. the forecast is for a red flag warning, the worst conditions we could have. west southwest winds gusting at

south lake tahoe under an evacuation warning. this is quite a shift from what we heard last week. firefighters said they felt like they had turned the corner. firefighters found themselves on the defensive this weekend. some homes burned along highway 50 near the town of myers. longtime residents say this is the worst they have seen it. >> it just hurts. we love this town we don't want to see it burn. >> the concern is the increased temperatures, the highest date -- the hottest day of the fire fighting and the humidity low. amy: firefighters expect high wind today which could been an increase in fire activity. help has been coming in from across the country. they have 3500 people finding this fire. they are working back to back shifts focusing on saving lives and property rather than fighting the fire with the intense winds, which is all they

can do right now. live in the newsroom, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. kumasi: we are tracking ida by the gulf coast. the storm made landfall as a category four hurricane has now weakened to a tropical storm. jobina fortson at the live desk. jobina: ida is moving northeast from louisiana into mississippi. more than a million people are without power and are concerned about severe flooding. it is a live look at new orleans right now, which was hit hard by the storm. resident biden has approved louisiana's request for a emergency declaration. one person is dead. deputies found the body after responding to reports of a fallen tree at home. ida remained damaged -- hi damaged several hospitals which had to evacuate -- ida several hospitals which had to evacuate. >> one of the decks we were not

able to use the elevator. >> people of louisiana are good and resilient people, and i can tell you we are going to get through this. jobina: local authorities expect it will be months before communities can fully recover. ida is expected to weaken over the next few days. we are going to check in with meteorologist lisa arjun to check on the storm path. lisa: yesterday quite a remarkable day. and as we look at what is now a tropical storm, it is moving toward alabama and even western florida, panama city, at 45 miles per hour with gusts to 80, moving to the north at eight miles an hour. it will move up through the tennessee river valley. by later on today, looking at winds of 30 to 35 miles per hour. it continues to move to the north and east through the

mid-atlantic and you can see the path all the way into the atlantic region, where we will see winds that will be quite impressive and spring rain through western new york. it will take a path with it, but we are also looking at the damage once the light comes up here, which it has on the eastern seaboard, to see how they are dealing with all of the flooding in the parishes. reggie: we spoke to a transplant who is worried about relatives in new orleans. she lived through hurricane trina before moving to berkeley. she said she hardly slept saturday night. she says her family evacuated fearing another katrina like disaster. >> they don't know what they are going to be coming home to or if they can return. reggie: she says no matter what happens, the people of new islands are resilient and they will recover. kumasi: scientists say while the caldor fire in hurricane ida may

seem like two different disasters, they are very much related. luz pena spokesman official could get worse. lyz: another record-setting season. >> they knew the vegetation was dry. ly it as one of the strongest storms to make landfall in modern times. i sat down with a climate expert to understand how these extreme weather events affecting opposite sides of the country are ultimately connected. >> the primary way is that global warming is happening on a global oil and so all parts of the world are experiencing that -- global and so all parts of the world are experiencing that.

luz: experiencing more heat than ever. >> the heat in the ocean is increasing and providing more energy for storms. we are seeing not to stronger storms but rapid intensification of storms. luz: he says 90% of the heat that has been added last century is in the ocean. this is triggering what could be a category one hurricane to intensify and grow into a stronger category. >> decades ago, maybe one out of 100 storms would do that and now we are seeing a 5% chance. luz: as fives intensify, the smoke from buyers will create more greenhouse gases and air quality will continue to worsen. should we expect that smoke will sit in certain areas for a longer period of time? >> there is some indicate that as global warming increases we could get more frequent occurrence of these air stagnation events. luz: he says the solution is a different energy system and to reduce greenhouse gases fast. >> reaching that zero is really,

saved her five-year-old son's life after a mountain lion attacked him. the boy was playing outside in calabasas when the cat dragged him 45 yards. his mom's screams and ran outside and punched the mountain lion to make it let go of her son. the boy was hurt but is expected to recover. wildlife officers found the mountain lions and killed it. kumasi: san diego zoo has just welcomed a very rare white rhino. the baby girl was born last sunday, wayne 125 pounds. she will -- weighing 125 pounds. since 1972, the san diego zoo has been breeding this rented species in captivity. 104 baby white rhino's have been born there, adding to the population of 18,000 left in the world. the baby rhino does not have a name yet. are we going to see a naming challenge? reggie: you know that we will. it is really cute.

kumasi: mission college celebrates the new class of future firefighters. the college will welcome 30 students to its new firefighter academy where the college is now offering three tracks in the program. it is a fire technology degree, an emt program and a fire academy. reggie: a large crowd celebrating lgbtq pride. he hopped on his bike to greet parade spectators at the pride parade yesterday. the pandemic forced organizers to cancel the event last year to people who turned out for the celebration this year were excited to be back. for many, taking part was more important than ever. >> after a year of a lockdowns, show each other the love and support is still there and we can still celebrate. it is not over. reggie: the parade ended with a celebration
