getting as many evacuees back into their homes as possible. thank you for joining us. ama: two of the evacuees came to san francisco. dan: they quickly fell victim to one of the most prevalent crimes in the city. j.r. stone talked with her and a story you will only see here. >> at least 700 photos dad, my husband had a lot of fishing equipment. a table that belonged to my grandfather. a guitar that belonged to my other grandfather. j.r.: she is describing some of the items stolen from her and her husband's toyota tacoma truck. a vehicle burglary might not surprise you, but she and her husband are fire evacuees from south lake who have been staying in the city and unable to go home for the last 10 days. >> it was touch and go for a little bit. the fire came within 1000 feet.

j.r.: she says their neighborhood was saved i firefighters and they are forever grateful. sadly, these are digital pictures of her and her late father who died earlier this year. originals she hoped to say from the fire were stolen this labor day weekend from their truck parked in this pierce street garage in the marina district, close to their hotel. >> all of those cool photos of the life before me and that transitioned -- the photo of him holding me for the first time at the hospital when i was born. and, you know, all of those firsts in my life. some of my first memories were captured in those photos. to see that someone has taken them, it was really heartbreaking. j.r.: she says everything was locked and out of sight, but according to the most recent police data, car thefts are up 19% in san francisco from this

time last year. she's hopeful that the thief has a change of heart and returns the pictures. >> it is the only photos but i have left of my dad. to see the realization that those were gone, that was the biggest hit. j.r.: j.r. stone, abc 7 news. ama: what a loss. there have been so many developments in the caldor wildfire. crews are getting ready to reopen highway 50. the need to remove trees and fix parables. officials are looking to get back into the grizzly flats community but they warned that maybe will not be able to stay because of serious fire damage to water pipes. the acreage is holding steady at 338 square miles burned. the fire is 40% contained. to the dixie fire. two fires burning on both sides of dixie valley merged and moved into the north end of the valley, destroying some structures. the fire is 371 square miles

mained in effect. the dixie fire is responsible for the death of a first responder over the weekend. the individual was suffering from a previous illness. dan: smoke from the wildfires has led officials to extend the air alert through tomorrow. spencer christian is here to let you know what areas receive the worst air quality. spencer: it appears it will be the south bay and santa clara valley. let me show you the air quality conditions. we had the spare the air day today. we had some improvement in the air quality. the greens and yellows indicate good to moderate air quality. you can see it will be moderate at best for most regions. the poorest will be in the santa clara valley. the good news is we expect good air quality wednesday, thursday and friday in the north bay and

she says it is her dream and just wanted back. she has insurance but it does not cover most of the item you lost including the camper. ama: in the south bay, a new safe parking segment for people living in their vehicles is not getting oil warm welcome from people who live in the area. it is on city-owned property at 71 vista montana. neighbors say it is next to a park. amanda del castillo says the site is scheduled to open tomorrow unless protesters get their way. amanda: this fence around a new temporary parking site. the former location around vista montana will hold about 20 vehicles. >> they have lost a lot of vehicles. they need more support and we need more affordable housing. amanda: andrea irvin with home first services says it will be people relocating from this vacant lot along component drive where apple plans to put its campus.
