quality right now in the green, representing good, but we do have an error alert today. temperatures are warmer right now compared to 24 hours ago. low 60's in sandra zahlavova with upper 60's by fairfield. gear is a live look outside in emeryville, where it will be another day where temperatures approach 80 degrees over in oakland, but hotter than that and hazy as we get through the afternoon. yesterday was 108 in fairfield, so we could see 103 in concord, 10 one in livermore, and still pretty comfortable with san francisco in the 70's. >> alright, thank you, lisa. multiple small fires, some in small areas. crews are trying to put them in control. kgo studios -- abc 7's amy

amy: we know firefighters will be out on the scene, watching the video. we will show you one that happened near pop love the road, about two acres burned right here before firefighters got this out. this is one of at least 10 fires that burned overnight. firefighters suspect that someone set these fires. all of them were a couple of miles north and west, and it all happened between 8:00 and 9:30 last night. firefighters got all the fires out. they do not think anyone needed to evacuate their homes, but they are asking you to be on the lookout for any suspicious activities, to check home security cameras for any activity that can help law enforcement. why near the walbridge fire burned last year, which was a scary time for sonoma county.

all of these fires put everyone on edge after all they have been through, but firefighters got everything under control. they come out very aggressively against these fires. live in sonoma county, amy hollyfield, abc 7. >> thank you, amy. we will check in with her when she gets to that seen in just a bit. the latest in the dixie fire. crews say two sides merged and moved into the north end of the valley, destroying the structures there. the fire now 940,000 acres with 54% containment. the dixie fire is responsible for the death of a first responder over the weekend. cal fire says the person was suffering from a previous illness. kumasi: well, there have been several development in the caldor wildfire. crews are getting ready to reopen highway 50. they need to do more before

allowing traffic back on that highway. they want to get evacuees back into the plant community, but they are warning many may not be able to stay in their homes because of serious fire damage to water pipes. the fire has burned more than 200,000 acres. crews have at 38% contained. you will notice the bottom left of your screen during wildfire coverage. scan the qr code, and it will bring up the abc 7 wildfire tracker. the map has the latest on fires burning across california. julian: two caldor fire evacuees who came to escape the fire ended up becoming victims of one of the most prevalent crimes in the community. abc 7's j.r. stone spoke withr. them. >> you know, like, my dad. my husband had a lot of fishing equipment, camping gear, a table that belonged to my grandfather,

he is in trouble for filing a false police report. investigators say he walked behind one of the cars in louisiana, took a phony phone call as the driver was backing up. the one thing he forgot, though, the cars have cameras. bates kept going with it. he called 911, claiming he was a victim of a hit and run that his neck, his back, his legs. they tracked down and the driver, reviewed the footage, and determined it was all a lie. no payout for mr. arthur bates, jr. there. kumasi: sir! bystanders moving fast to get away from a central air section. abc reports members of the taliban fired the shots. hundreds of protesters have gathered to demand women's rights and announced taliban rule. some bbc journalists were also permitted -- prohibited from filming at the rally. kumasi: people in the bay area getting involved. a group for global alerts afghanistan have developed a text alert you can use. they are urging them to still be aware with the situation with the taliban. they are hoping for more awareness and global response. sadaf doost: this is really in response to troubling reports we are hearing on the ground, we are just advocating for the needs of those directly impacted in afghanistan. kumasi: the text alert has only

10,000 staff members. 280 said they are not vaccinated. 66 said that they are partially vaccinated. 23 said they have an appointment to be vaccinated. julian: san francisco got its first real test of the vaccine mandate this holiday weekend. for the vaccination is required if you want to dine indoors for more than two weeks now. . it has complicated things for people looking to grab a me al. it is also provided its fair share of challenges for restaurants. >> not everybody is vaccinated, so it is very hard to find seating arrangements that can accommodate all 28 of us. >> over 100 that we have turned away every day. julian: berkeley also requires proof of vaccination. that order took effect last friday. enforcement begins this friday. kumasi: the timing between vaccine doses is proving to be imported when it comes to building immunity against the coronavirus. >> vast knowledge is the longer

yosemite. according to the "new york times, officials are investigating possible lightning strikes in the area. no official word yet on how the family died. officials believe john commit his wife ellen, and their one-year-old daughter and their dog hiked most of the eight-mile trail in triple digit heat. the big question still remains -- what happened to them? investigators looked at everything from toxic algae to talk carbon monoxide poisoning to old mines. kumasi: a woman tells abc 7 news someone stole her custom pet mobile grooming truck. it happened between 2:00 and 4:00 in the morning in san leandro. she said the truck is her dream. she just wanted back, and insurance does not cover most of the items, including the camper that houses or business. a park is set to open today if protesters do not get in the way. it is in a state-owned lot in

the vista montana neighborhood. abc 7 reporter amanda del castillo has more. amanda: new, temporary parking sites are said to open tuesday to those living in their vehicles. it will host at least 20 vehicles. >> they have lost a lot of their resources during the time that they have been on house, so they need support and affordable housing. amanda: andrea with the nonprofit homes for service of the community. it will be a long component drive, where apple plants with a san jose campus. home first works with officials to make it happen. sean cartwright with the on house response group spoke with residents who say something has to give. sean go. amanda: but around the neighborhood, signs signaling a

moving day protest. >> we are not the bad guys. we want to be part of the process. we understand the situation of homelessness, but right now, it is not about shoving it down our throats. amanda: julio and other residents say they only learned about the process last wednesday, saying it could be problematic for families and young children. julio: the fear is already here. andrea: i certainly hope they never have a medical emergency, that they never have a natural disaster default and so that they are in this situation and are greeted by such intolerance. amanda: pretty's are hoping for at least nine months. a city memo pointed to the remote possibility of staying open if the site is found to be safe and effective. i am amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. julian: the 90th dead whale found in the bay area this year was found on friday in the bay area.

the 35-foot female humpback was found about a mile south of the south beach parking lot, steamrolling in the surf when a resident first reported this to the marine mammal center. due to the dangerous high tides, it could not be accessed until sunday. the cause of death is undetermined. kumasi: the perfect storm is hitting the sierra nevada. not only the oldest species insn our area. there are small shoots of hope. >> their cones open up, their seats start to germinate after a fire. >> ic baby sequoias that have sprouted up after the fire happened. kumasi: they can only be found in the california sierra nevada mountains.

they are on the endangered species list. julian:julian: you now have a place to camp without venturing too far from home. the cori camp is now part of the dumbarton bridge. it is a full-service hookup for rv's. there are also showers and easy access to hiking and biking on the shoreline. >> for those who just live on the concrete all the time, this is a good opportunity to see what it is like to cook their food on a stove and maybe have a little camp fire, some kids do not know anything about that. julian: the site includes th drive-in tent sites with more coming. there are plans for tent cabins, like the ones in yosemite, according to "chronicle," and an amphitheater, too. kumasi: ok. i like to camp. julian: when you don't have to drive too far, if you only want to do it for a night, even better. kumasi: a night is about right.
