people are waiting to vote, even today. the bay area -- cox and elder will spend the final day of the campaign in southern california. dan: supporters of removing governor newsom from office held rallies in marin county for the second day in a row after one of the protesters was assaulted. we explain why the protesters returned. reporter: protesters in marin took one last shot hoping to sway the public to vote yes. >> we are getting visible and makes everybody understand that we need to vote yes and get him out of office. reporter: melanie morgan helped organize the demonstration. a man was assaulted with a fractured skull.

morgan said they do not want that to silence >> it is a state that is almost uninhabitable. the crime rate is outrageous. reporter: polls show governor newsom favorite to retain his seat. the protesters think there is hope the result will go in >> their favor. >>it will go the way it should pgo. i feel like i'm making a difference. reporter: her family are immigrants from mexico. she says her family will be voting yes once polls open in hopes that other latino voters do the same. >> gavin newsom thanks he is above the law. he is supposed to be defending us. reporter: the minds of these protesters are already made up. abc 7 news. ama: regardless of the outcome, the recall will show how californians feel about the

state's top issues. dan: gavin newsom stands a good chance to stay in office, but by what margin? how do people feel about the homeless and the crime? how do they feel about covid? we will find out about that. dan: larry elder is telling supporters he wants to hear about election fraud or what he called shenanigans. we ask the president of the nonpartisan voter foundation if she has any concerns. >> the only thing i am seeing that are causing me concern are false claims about election fraud. there is no evidence to back this up and it is undermining confidence in the election. we want people to vote. if people see problems, we want them reported to election officials.

the secretary of state has a hotline. dan: if you plan to mail in your ballot, get it postmarked. a map showing the recent percentage of ballots, in marin county, 53% of voters have returned their ballots, the third highest percentage in california. solano has the lowest rate at 33.5%. early 6% of californians have sent in their ballots as of yesterday. you can check how your county is doing by going to our website. ama: earlier this evening, abc 7 joined political reporters in los angeles, fresno for a recall roundtable. they talked about the candidates and how the race is being run. california's secretary of state joined them and said this will cost as much as $300 million.

the first involved in fbi agent. the team was serving an arrest warrant, but the fbi is not saying if the person shot was the one they were looking for. none of the federal agents were injured. minutes later there was a second unrelated shooting near 68th avenue and macarthur boulevard. the police captain confirms two people died. at 5:30, three more were shot, one critically injured outside the fruitvale bart station. ama: a woman lost her life today in san francisco at the powell street train station. a call for help after someone was seeing being dragged by a train. reporter: bart dispatched an emergency at the powell street station in san francisco. >> a patron was dragged by the train. reporter: this east they

resident was trying to go home when he saw a person caught on the train. >> he passed by my feet, and i could see him getting dragged down the platform. what is that? that was grotesque because all the way down the platform on that yellow bumpy portion, it was a bloodstain all the way down. reporter: he spoke to a man who was hysterical, and said the person was his girlfriend. i spoke to the bar director who represents the powell street station. >> we have investigators revealing -- investigators on the site immediately making sure all procedures were followed, and to try to understand what the circumstances were. as the director from bart, i want to say how devastated we

are about this loss of life. reporter: bart made clear this was not a suicide, and we will be following up to see how this tragedy occurred. dan: apple has pushed out a critical security update to fix a software problem that could allow hackers to access your iphone or other devices. it is called a zero click exploit since users do not have to click on a link or file to trigger it. it was exploited to put spyware on a saudi activists's phone. experts tell abc 7 news people should not be too worried, but update your apple devices. >> you are not being targeted, i am not being targeted, because in this case we are not the targets of the saudi arabia and images of child abuse that are stored on apple devices.some critics calling it "bulk

surveillance" - breaking news, e nicholas made landfall in texas. it is a category-1 storm. >> let's look at live doppler, and hurricane nicholas is moving onto the houston coastline. they are seeing heavy rain. it made landfall on the texas coast. downpours and strong winds 75 miles per hour. dangerous storm surge. it continues as a category-1 tomorrow morning, but weakening to a tropical storm tomorrow evening. the heavy flooding from texas to louisiana will be a concern. as we look locally, he's he skies -- hazy skies. you may notice smoke coming in

in the afternoon, 84, san jose. it will be warm, low 90's on the peninsula. 80, mountain view. 69, san francisco. enough breeze and fog to hold temperatures down. 84, napa. mid 70's, oakland. inland it will be a hot summer day. 95, livermore. saturday a system will bring rain, it may bring us a few showers. if we get anything, it looks like a couple hundredths of an inch, up north much more rain is expected. this will help the firefighters if the rain materializes.
