mist hanging in the air later in the forecast. as far as temperatures, --let's see if i can do this manually. 50's this morning, hold on until noon around the coast. 60's and 70's in the bay and inland, than 60's and 70's for most of us, below average at 4:00. reggie: crews have knocked out a house fire in lafayette, laf, which started just after midnight. the official tells us it was hard for firefighters to get inside because there was so much stuff in the home. it was similar to a hoarding situation. everyone was able to get out and the causes under investigation. kumasi: people are cleaning up in san francisco after a water main break sent water gushing

into the amazon neighborhood. water was flowing down hills near brunswick street and pope street. the water went down the road to the outer mission, and did not just turn the street into a river. two homes were flooded. whole life and i have never seen a flood that severe. it came close to everyone's house. everyone is trying to rush out and protect their homes so they don't get flooded. kumasi: officials say it is unclear as to what exactly caused the break. crews completed repair work last night. reggie: on august 25, officers responded to the report of a shooting near fremont boulevard. a victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. a short time later, officers say

they found the suspect nearby with a gun. the suspect was shot and killed during that interaction. kumasi: pfizer is pushing for approval of a booster shot this friday. the rise in cases has officials in marin county planning covid vaccine clinics for five to 11-year-olds, even though the vaccine has not been authorized for that age group yes. abc seven news reporter amy hollyfield is joining us live to talk about what's going on with this. amy? amy: marin county getting a jump on this. the vaccine has not been approved for five to 11-year-olds, but they are planning vaccine clinics. one of three will be held here at middle creek -- miller creek middle school. trying to guess when this vaccine would be approved for younger kids has been tricky. we heard this summer, then december. but pfizer may be ready for five through 11-year-olds in october,

with the delta variant causing the recent surge. marin's deputy health officer says that she will be taking her young kids as soon the vaccine is available. >> as a parent, i see the risks of the vaccine, the harms of the vaccine is extremely low. if my children are exposed to a covid positive student, they will be able to stay in school. kumasi: -- amy: marin is turning its attention to older students, who are athletes. they will need to be vaccinated or submit to weekly covid testing. and talk of requiring the vaccine for all students is heating up across the bay area. west coast are custom -- the west county is voting tooo all students get the vaccine. they would be the first in the area to take that set. oakfield would take up the issue next wednesday. back here in marin, the district

hopes to have 75 to 11-year-olds vaccinated. reggie: yesterday, the president met with nearly a dozen people at the white house, including greg adams from kaiser permanente and the ceo of abc 7's parent company, disney, bob chapek. the labor department will require a vaccine for companies with more than 100 employees. >> this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated, nothing else, right now. reggie: the president hopes businesses will choose to mandate vaccination before it becomes the rule. kumasi: crime has become a growing problem in san francisco, but the mayor is working fix the issue. a new program has been announced to help small business owners

of fog trying to develop here, but it will be cooler if you are exercising, low humidity if you are doing yard work, and if your home, open the windows and enjoy some free air conditioning. mid to upper 80's in lakeport, it 84 in livermore, 84 in antioch. 70's for most of the north bay and south bay. 64 to 74 for the bay, and low to mid 60's along the coast in san francisco. as far as your traffic out there, we are looking at a sig alert that was just eliminated. all lanes will open up, and i will show you that, coming up. at 5:30, the metering lights were turned on. 20 minutes ago, this was free-flowing, and you can see how backed up it is already. the sig alert is cleared, unfortunately it it was a fatal accident on 37. the purple will start thinning out as the lanes become open

reggie: a 14 month long investigation into the death of elijah mcclain uncovers serious problems with the aurora, color color

department. the state attorney general's office says it examined more than 3 million internal records and found a pattern of racially biased policing, excessive force, and failing to record legally required information. aurora police used force against people of color almost 2.5 times more than against white people. the investigation also found that apartment used ketamine illegally, the same powerful sedative given to the -- to mclean on the night of his arrest. they will work with the attorney general's office to determine how to implement changes. president biden has unveiled a new effort with australia and the u.k. to share advanced technologies to counter china. trilateral working group is aimed it -- at helping australia acquire nuclear powered submarines.

over the weekend. good morning, everybody. it's thursday, september 16th. you're watching abc 7, live on abc 7, hulu live, and wherever you stream. mike: there is rain this weekend, but not a washout for sure. it's usually a pretty weekend, very limited, and i will show you with future radar, coming up. check out this loving embrace our fog is giving mount 10 this morning. let's take a look at what to expect from our day planner. 29 minutes from now, temperatures will not change at all. most of us will be cloudy and in the mid to upper 50's. as we had to noon, most of the cloud cover inland gone. lingering around the bay and the coast, that's why you have 50's in san francisco, 60's to barely 70's elsewhere. some pockets of sunshine along the coast, near 60 there.

sunny along the bay, and inland, mainly 70's 10 year 80 in places like antioch. -- two near 80 in places like antioch. kumasi: an fda panel is set to vote on recommendations for pfizer's shot, as the delta variant keeps its stranglehold on the country. the new data pfizer released yesterday made the case for booster shots people 16 and up. you need to get the shot six months after your second dose. companies also suggesting the reduction in vaccine protection is not due to the strength of the delta variant, but due to the decrease of the vaccine's effectiveness. >> this is not directly related to delta, but just because of waning immunity. this is why the booster question is coming into play right now. kumasi: a review of moderna's booster shot will happen in the

coming weeks. the company says people who received its vaccine will also need a third dose after six months, but unlike pfizer, modernity booster shot will be a half dose, which the -- moderna's booster shot will be a half dose, which the company says and provides enough protection. reggie: vaccine clinics for ages five to 11 are being opened up, even though the vaccine has not been approved for that age group yet. amy hollyfield joined us on where they are getting such an early start. amy: here at miller creek middle school, they hope to open it at the end of october. this is one of three vaccine clinics they are planning for the younger kids. vaccine is not approved yet to the five to 11-year-olds, but officials say they are looking ahead, and it looks like it may happen in october, so marin is getting ready.

they are even setting goals for the number of kids they hope to get vaccinated. >> our hope is we will be able to have 75% of our five to 11-year-olds, which is 21,000 here in marin county, fully vaccinated prior to the winter recess. amy: and they are on the older kids. student athletes in marin who are not vaccinated may want to reconsider. administrators now want older student athletes eligible for the vaccine to get vaccinated or some it to weekly tests. other districts are looking to take it one step further. the west contra costa county school district and oakland school district plan to vote next week on whether to require the vaccine for all students 12 and older. they would be the first school districts in the bay area to take that step. live in san raphael, abc 7 news. reggie: san francisco school

officials are scrambling to meet the high demand for remote learning. they initially planned an online program for four hundred 50 students, but 730 five were excepted. on top of that, the district added another 1200 spots for students participating in a remote independent learning program. sf ust's short 55 educators, leaving some children still waiting for the school year even start. kumasi: >> the intense stress and demands of this position and the current climate have severely affected my mental and physical health. equally difficult have been dealing with the constant name-calling, vitriol, shaming and toxic comments and emails from members of our community. people need to continue to show up and speak up and participate in the decision-making process,

it's pretty cloudy as you head into the east bay. there has been some measurable drizzle and mist hanging in the air. everyone 56 to 59 degrees,rees, pacifica, easily the outlier, most of us in the mid-50's to near 60 degrees with increasing clouds. rena and yellow, that's good, and moderate, that's air quality for all of us. we could see a pocket or two of some poor air quality in the most sensitive may feel that. the greatest chance of that happening is in our smoke forecast around 11:00 this morning, around lake and mendocino counties, but it stays there and slips into the northern part of sonoma and napa counties into the overnight hours. as we had through tomorrow, everyone gets a touch cleaner, so hopefully we won't have to deal with that again. that talk about heading to school this morning. haley gray out there, jackets

get this out. i thought i knew what i was doing, and here we go. some good news, the fremont crash near mission street on southbound 680 has been cleared up. you can see traffic resuming to 58 miles per hour. we hadt shut down 37 earlier, that's been cleared and everything is back to normal there. our last stop is the altamont pass, where it is extremely slow, 16 miles per hour.
