i am larry beil. that's get right to kate larsen, who has been digging -- let's get right to kate larsen. kate: mayor breed was in the underground level of a san francisco club last night. definitely inside. i spoke with the manager off-camera, who told me the rules are to wear a mask inside if you are not eating or drinking. ♪ kate: dancing with an equally unmasked crowd as a chronicle reporter shot this video. mayor london breed inside a club in the tenderloin. chronicle gave abc 7 permission to air the video, which shows her at the black cat, enjoying a surprise performance i tony tony tony. it flies in the face of what mayor breed has been telling san franciscans all pandemic long. >> look at the environment and be aware that covid is still out

it's news. that is why we are going to watch it. these people are the ones calling the shots and when you call the shots, you have to follow them as well. kate: i spoke to a source with mayor breeds office. they were unapologetic. they simply said the mayor was excited to be out and had an incredible night at the black cat and wants to support businesses. she was with her friends. i am kate larsen, abc 7 news. back to you. larry: teachers and janitors have simply had enough as a tiktok challenge has bay area students vandalizing school bathrooms. this has been happening at schools all over the country. j.r. stone in san mateo explains it has been so bad, one local school even had to close most of its restrooms. >> you are looking at a school bathroom stall in the bay area middle school, one that has been vandalized with toilet paper rolled all over the place. sadly, school staff in multiple districts say this is part of an

online tiktok bathroom challenge trend. >> the kids are destroying the bathroom, the soap dispensers, stealing stuff, putting tissue and soap dispensers in the toilet. kate: a middle school instructor along the thoughts are echoed by emily, who goes to ambit middle school in san mateo, where she says bathrooms have been vandalized. >> my teachers keep saying they might close them because they keep getting worse and worse. so we might just have to go to the office if we need to use the restroom. >> if you think this is limited to middle schools, think again. high schools and elementary schools have their custodians working extra hours. as is the case at independent elementary school in castro valley. >> don't think a lot of them understand they are vandalizing. they just think they are doing something that is funny because i saw it on tiktok. kate: this soap dispenser is a replacement for one that was ripped off the wall.

this was covered in ketchup. many bathrooms are now closed. we reached out to tiktok to see if any action has been taken against users posting bathroom challenge videos but have yet to hear back. brenner is hopeful that parents talk to their kids like she talked to her class this week. >> i had a conversation. i made a personal. if this was happening and your father or brother had to clean this up, how would you feel? >> j.r. stone, abc 7 news. larry: tiktok has banned the hashtag associated with that challenge. now when someone searches that, they will be sent to the community guidelines page. in the tweet, tiktok also wrote "please be kind to your schools and teachers." even the possibility of rain is news these days. let's get to meteorologist sandhya patel. look at the weather, tracking when and where we will see

showers this weekend. sandhya: saturday night into early sunday, we are going to be seeing some wet weather so let me show you the lights system on live doppler 7. the pacific northwest will bear the brunt of this storm but we will get the tail end of it. saturday morning, a little drizzle. wait until saturday night when the front comes in. showers expected at 10:00 p.m. in the north bay. by 2:00 a.m. sunday, the wet weather moves through, going into 6:00 a.m. and it continues to press eastward. i will be back before i get to the rest of the timeline. i want to show you where the rain will be going. the pacific northwest, crescent city, over one inch of rain. back with the rest of the tide line -- timeline. larry: any rain is badly needed as reservoir levels are down while temperatures are up all across the state. 88% of california is now in extreme drought. liz kreutz was in marin county

at the reservoir where the water levels are lower than ever. >> with 88% of california in extreme or exceptional drought, counties across the bay area are preparing for what could be several more dry years to come. the bay area council hosted a panel today to discuss the current conditions and solutions. >> sadly, almost 45% of the state is now in an exceptional drought so when we get to those circumstances, fields are fallowed, orchards are removed. the vegetable yields go down. fires become very expensive. liz: reservoirs across the bay area that supply water for millions of residents are increasingly depleting. in marin county, the levels of the reservoir are shockingly low. we are at the edge of the reservoir and it is pretty bad, scattered everywhere around us are shells that should be underwater, but take a look at this birdseye view from sky

seven. that is how you can see and get a sense of just how depleted this reservoir is. the reservoir is one of seven in marin county. they are at 36% capacity, nearly half of what it was a year ago when the reservoirs were at 60% capacity. the average for this time of year is 72%. >> it's not difficult to say that things are not good right now. liz: all across the state, the vice chair for district seven of the santa clara valley water district said it would take much more than water storage to prepare for the years to come. he said their district is working on new ways to recycle wastewater. >> we signed a 76 year deal with the city of palo alto for their wastewater treatment plant to turn that into both recycled water and drinkable water. liz: marin county is working on new solutions including the proposal for lisicki $5 million emergency water pipeline across the richmond bridge. >> conservation but that's not going to be enough to get us out

of the situation we are in. liz: in marin county, liz kreutz, abc 7 news. larry: the national forest service is trying to save some of california's giant sequoias with fireproof aluminum blankets wrapping up the trees. this is a 3000-year-old general sherman tree. it and hundreds of other ancient trees are in the path of the complex fire burning inside national park. the lightning sparked fire has burned 9000 acres. in the east bay, the chp shut down the tunnel on eastbound 24 today because of a road rage shooting. one car was hit several times by gunfire. sky seven video shows investigators focusing on two vehicles pulled over to the shoulder. it all started around 3:30 at the height of rush hour in the afternoon, backing up traffic for miles. nobody was injured. the tunnel was opened about 1.5 hours later. the light rail service will return to full service this

larry: vandalism at a palo alto parking garage is being investigated as a hate crime. a witness reported seeing racial slurs written on a pillar on high street last night. those markings have since been cleaned off. police say they don't know when the graffiti was written. so far, no suspects. it is the fourth time hate crime vandalism has been found. the chp performed a dramatic rescue this afternoon. a man got stuck on a cliff above the ocean. you can see him waving. sky seven captured the moment as the man and a member of the rescue team were lifted to safety by a chp helicopter. medical personnel checked him out on top to make sure he was ok. in the south bay, tonight, hundreds met outside san jose city hall for a monumental occasion. 200 years of mexican independence. amanda del castillo shows us the tradition is more alive than ever. ♪ amanda: the

project are using crisper gene editing technology to genetically modify the asian elephant, which is a close relative of the woolly mammoth. startup secured $15 million in funding and they are aiming to create a mammoth calf in six years. >> more like creating a genetically modified elephant. in that sense, no science has lot of experience genetically modifying all sorts of, you know, different things. larry: colossal hopes to introduce the lab grown mammoths to the arctic. they say the herbivores will balance the growth of arctic plant life and help slow climate change. what could go wrong? sandhya: i don't know. larry: i guess none of them have seen jurassic park, any of them. although we do need the rain. here is a look at the atmospheric river that is heading straight towards the pacific northwest. it definitely looks impressive. as you notice, the aim is right at washington and oregon, where they have been dealing with the drought and fires as well, that moisture heading there that should help them out quite a bit. saturday night for the north bay, scattered showers for the entire bay area but it will be hit-or-miss. not everyone will see it sunday morning. a few hundredths to 15 hundredths of an inch. northbay is seeing some raindrops. as you going to 2:00 a.m., it is crossing the central bay and at 4:00 a.m., it's dark to shift towards the south bay. this is the tail end of the front of that is going to be moving through washington and oregon. we will not get a hole out of it but it will be through here before the lunch hour. rainfall totals will look like this. anywhere from about 1200 in calistoga to two hundredths of

an inch in livermore. up around northern california, they will get more than that. one inch to almost two inches of rain. obviously, we need as much rain as we can get in northern california, where the fires are burning. live doppler 7 showing you low clouds pushing into parts of the bayside communities, north and east bay, so we have a healthy marine layer about 2000 feet deep. today's temperatures were mainly in the 60's and 70's. the coast was in the 50's. cool for summer. right now, 50's and 60's as you take a look at a live picture from the camera. air-quality forecast, moderate tomorrow. saturday and sunday, subtle improvements as the system goes through. we will see some good air quality. from our camera, gray skies over san francisco. to body drizzle. chance of showers saturday night. sunday, gusty winds and offshore graphs winds will bring the fire risk early next week.
