night. he is a civil engineer who worked 11 years for the army corps of engineers on important projects housing for cobbles female police a wastewater treatment plant and a morgue at the military hospital. and so works with a us government or they are not safe james brown is a veteran's advocate from the peninsula who's been helping the family find a safe way out the family at first joined a caravan of more than a hundred others trying to leave the country a dangerous proposition. then we're advised to leave the group and go into hiding while arrangements were made i was my chosen okay my life, but my children is my life. so finally today they boarded a flight at kabul airport arranged by the state department and flew to doha cutter where they are overnighting hoping to come to california this weekend. i asked the state department today about the case during its daily briefing. i wonder what the biggest challenge was and what took three almost three weeks to to get them out. thanks for your

bomb inside and they've realized the intelligence was wrong 10 innocent people including seven children and an aid worker lost their lives because of this defense officials are calling the killings and the honest mistake that they are now apologizing for if you are looking for information about afghanistan including how you can help go to abc 7 news.com slash take action oakland police are investigating a hit and run that injured three people this afternoon. it all happened at the intersection of grand avenue in street near lake merritt a motorcyclist and two pedestrians in the crosswalk were injured at least one person was transported to the hospital. we saw as you can see an empty stroller at the scene, but it did not appear a child was injured so far. there is no description of the suspect vehicle. and evacuation request has been lifted near pleasanton were several grass fires along interstate 680 were sky 7 flew over the scene as alameda county firefighters.

all right, let me show you live doppler 7 and you will see. that system that's already pushing into the pacific northwest with some rain that atmospheric river is going to drench them and they obviously need it with the fires. we need it here. it's coming but ahead of it. nice day right now temperatures in the 50s to 80s that's about where they were today from our golden gate bridge camera. you can see the low clouds and from our mount tam cam you can see that marine layer really advancing. it's a deep marine layer, but temperatures did come up a few degrees today. so it was a little warmer from our emeryville camera you're looking at traffic on 80. obviously. it's a friday night. so it's gonna be like this cloudy skies overhead air quality will be improving. so even though we have haze today lingering look at this saturday and sunday, you'll have better air quality to be able to enjoy a live look from our san jose camera now and it is hazy out there spotty showers and drizzle this weekend gusty winds and high fire danger between sunday night and tuesday morning with much. former weather coming your way early next week.

it's a level one tomorrow morning through sunday morning expecting light showers or drizzle rainfall estimates anywhere from a hundredth of an inch to two tenths winds will be gusting 20 to 35 miles an hour. so when you get going tomorrow morning, you might wake up to the gray skies a little bit of drizzle at 7 am by 1pm make sure you have the umbrellas in the north bay because that's where the showers show up first 10 pm. you have more of the wet weather moving through and then by 3 am it's sliding into the east bay. insula into the south bay by 5 am. hopefully you're getting your sleep and then the ground is getting watered the garden get a little bit of moisture here. our vegetation obviously needs it so we can lessen the fire impact. obviously. it's still high fire danger. so the rainfall totals are expected to be under chance of an inch except ukiah quarter of an inch. it's not enough, especially with the wind setup coming to lessen the fire danger completely or to make a dent in our drought, but it's certainly something so fire weather watch 11 pm sunday night

please tell us there are some improvements. there are some this is not the first time edd has gone through such a crisis the same thing happened during the great recession back in '07 tonight. we look at where progress is being made in solutions to push that progress along further. alison corelli's experience as a familiar one for many getting to a real person at edd can prove frustrating. and that's that's the biggest joke because you can't get anybody online. either to respond. it. just hung up on me. reginald pearson's jobless benefits it ran out in april. they promised him a decision on whether his benefits could be extended within two it's been almost six months. and he's still waiting, but that's i don't know it is it's tell me i was or wasn't i received no notifications whatsoever. if i was i wasn't approved andrew stettner of the century foundation authored a study for the think tank titled how to

moderize unemployment insurance technology the issues. we're facing with edd in california are similar to what the other 49 states are experiencing. this is not been a public priority. it's been neither the federal government's priority nor the states priority funding for edd is connected to the jobless rate low. appointment right before the pandemic meant less funding states manage the biggest crisis in history was the lowest budget in history. that's michelle evermore of the us department of labor her agency is working to come up with solutions for all 50 states by developing computer modules. the state say they need most if there's another pandemic if there's another emergency, how do we create a system that's resilient enough module that could be created include a wage verification system or a program. child fraudsters without falsely accusing innocent people in california a thousands wrongly suspected a fraud found their

accounts frozen by bank america, which oversees the debit cards. benefits are deposited the state auditor issues recommendations to fix issues and believes. the problem has been fixed. they've provided enough information to the bank temporary that the accounts and they are to work with them on that the id me verification system has been another sore point for applicants most of the improvements suggested by the state auditor have been implemented and at last report 91% have successfully verified their identity using the system. that's up from 83% so there's i believe there's still some issues related to language access and so forth surprisingly. the auditor has not done any recent reviews about edd. antiquated computer technology nor its troubled phone system last week edd received 1.7 million calls, but could only answer seven percent of them the auditor resp.
