up in a few minutes. dion: due to the weather, pg&e will shut off power to thousands of customers in several counties overnight. in the bay area, not -- napa and solano county's will be affected. luz pena spoke with some residents who say this is a concerning reminder of past fire seasons. >> it is fire season, and pg&e starting power shutoffs in the north bay overnight. >> thinking, it is that time of the year again. it is a little tense. >> a napa resident says pg&e contractors clears the power lines in his neighborhood. the california public utilities commission requires pg&e to maintain at least a forfeit clearance between vegetation and power lines. two of his trees were close to power lines. >> the oak over there was closer. there were a few branches that were not testing but were over the wire. >> on this map, pg&e highlights the 10 counties impacted by the power shut off. about 7100 customers will lose power starting as early as 5:00 a.m. monday. in a napa county, 1200 customers

pablo are without electricity. utility says many people can have their power restored by midnight, but for some it could take until tomorrow morning. some of the outages happened when several power poles caught fire and that left some east bay business owners scrambling and hoping for a quicker fix this afternoon. ryan carey got an one nation on what went wrong. >> people in el cerrito woke up to dark rooms and broken street lights sunday. weather related issues from the rain caused power outages for hundreds of customers. >> it has been a long dry spell, and the first light rain comes along and turns the dust and salt in everything accumulating on the lines into a mode mixture, which conducts electricity and causes an outage. >> the map showed spotted outages. that side of the street currently has power. the outages are scattered throughout this area of the east bay.

when you have fog free nights in september, it is almost guaranteed you will have warm days ahead, and that is what we do have in the forecast. the winds in the hills are picking up. diablo gusting to 42 miles per hour. at gusting to 22. 20 a top tam. we expect the winds to strengthen over the next couple hours. when we talk about air temperature, it is a mild night. we are all above 60 degrees right now. 60 in the city currently. 63 in san jose. 62 currently in santa rosa. overnight tonight, any fog we had earlier along the coastline will disappear because of the offshore winds dragging in some very dry air, depleting our marine layer of any moisture. numbers are gradually falling into the 50's first thing tomorrow morning. here is the red flag warning. it does encompass the northbay mountains and the valleys of the

east bay, where we do find the winds gusty at times tomorrow morning. perhaps above 35 miles per hour at times. the possibility is there that if we do see any fires, because our landscape is so dry, it could spread rapidly. i want to focus on napa county because this is the area that looks to have the strongest winds. 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, you can see the winds gusting 20 to 30 miles per hour, perhaps higher than that at higher elevations. by sunrise, the winds will peak. between 20 and 25 miles per hour. by the afternoon, the winds will back off pretty rapidly. we will have an onshore component that will help lessen the fire danger as the red flag warning expires at 8:00 p.m.. here is the fire danger index. the wind speak tomorrow morning at about 10:00 a.m.. the highest fire danger looks to be confined around napa county, where it is high to very high in the hills.

night, not nearly enough to end the fire season. a red flag warning is in effect for a good reason. diablo gusting over 40 miles an hour. many locations gusting over 20 miles per hour. here is the red flag warning. it lasts until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow for all areas shaded in red. the timeframe for the strongest winds is between 4:00 a.m. early tomorrow morning and noon, so about an eight hour window before the warning will expire tomorrow evening. dion: because of the strong winds expected, pg&e is implement in a power shut off. this helps reduce the risk of wildfire sparking from energized powerlines. starting around tomorrow at 5:00, the utility will cut power. the shut off will affect roughly 1200 customers in napa county, 800 customers in solano county. they expect to restore power

tomorrow afternoon. large portions of king canyon national park is closed as the kmp complex wire has grown to over 21,000 acres. the wildfire caused by lightning has been burning for eight days now, and flames have reached the edge of the giant forests sequoia national park. the good news is general sherman, the world's largest tree, has not seen any flames, and has been armed with fire resistant foil to protect it from the going -- from the growing blaze. as always, you can keep track of the fires across california with the abc 7 wildfire tracker. find it at our website, abc7news.com. the fda is meeting this week to discuss advisory panel's recommendation for a covid booster shot. the added dose is being considered for emergency use for certain groups, at least six months after their first shot. this includes people 65 and over and those at high risk.

the fda panel did not give the ok for everyone over the age of 16 to receive a booster shot, citing a lack of data. >> we want to make sure we are following the right science here. timing is everything. dion: dr. fauci said despite the biden administration's plan to administer boosters more widely, he did not think the panel decision was a mistake. a committee will also consider boosters this week. they are set to meet wednesday and thursday. new developments now from washington, where the senate parliamentarian ruled against a plan for democrats to give millions of immigrants a chance at citizenship. it democrats wanted to include that in their 3.5 trillion dollars spending bill. the parliamentarian said it does not meet the strict rules on what can be in the bill. democrats say they have prepared ultimate proposals and will hold more meetings in the coming days. the u.s. senate has started sending haitian migrants back to
