fire danger putting pg&e on high alert. somehow close even seen with dangerous embers. this morning, some customers waking up with no power after an already eventful weekend for pg&e. plus. >> he should be leading this charge and instead, he is not. >> my gut tells me. reggie: a grim discovery in grand teton national park. the case of gabby petito and search for her boyfriend, who is now missing himself. good morning and welcome to monday, september 20. we are going to start with meteorologist mike nicco. mike: good morning we are starting off with clear conditions everywhere next to these dry breezes and territories running mainly in the 50's look how quickly we warm up to the 70's and 80's,

even in san francisco. by noon, we are at our average high and we will just keep warming. 77 80's around the bay, even some 90's inland. as we head into the evening hours, 60's, 70's, 80's. now through 8:00, northbay mountains, east bay hills and bally -- valley, please be vigilant today because fires can start quickly and spread rapidly. reggie: pg&e is in limiting a public safety energy shut off. the utility said it will be cutting power starting at 5 a.m. to a small portion of napa and solano counties. this will impact about 1200 customers. pg&e expect to that power tonight. kumasi: this comes as hundreds of residents remain without power over the weekend.

it might not be back on until later this morning. bc seven news reporter amy hollyfield is joining us live with more on this. amy: we have power here at contra costa college, but there are some homes in the san pablo area that are in the dark this morning, along with some parts of oakland and el cerrito. pg&e says the weather over the weekend is to blame. the power outages were very scattered over the weekend. one side of the street would have power, the other wouldn't. some restaurants lost power. other businesses. restaurants really needed that electricity to be able serve dinners last night, so some reservations they had to cancel. they're also worried about their food spoiling. some of the outages even caused some power poles to catch fire. pg&e explained it as the drought being to blame. dust and dirt had built up on the power lines because we had gone so long without rain. the rain we had this weekend turned that dirt into mud and

the power went out. >> it has been a very long dry spell and then the first light rain comes along and it turns that dust and salt and everything akeem leading on the lines into a mud mixture, which conducts electricity and causes an outage. amy: here is a map of the outages that happened this weekend. at one point, over 29,000 customers lost power. pg&e said they did not expect this money outages. they have restored power to most customers, but they still have some outages this morning. the estimate's are all over the place. here in san pablo, they are saying the lights may come on around 8:00. in some areas of el cerrito, it may be 10:00 this morning. oakland, no estimates yet. reporting live in san pablo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. reggie: thank you. large portions of kings canyon national park is closed as a wildfire has grown to 21,000

acres. the lightning sparked wildfire has been burning for eight days. flames have now reached the edge of the forest in a sequoia national park. thank fully, the world's largest tree has not seen any flames and has been protected from the growing fire. it is still 0% contained. kumasi: new this morning, visors -- pfizer says its vaccine is safe for children five years old to 11 years old. >> we should note that this has not been peer-reviewed yet. pfizer says the vaccine is safe and it showed robust neutralizing antibody responses in kids. pfizer points to submit its data to the fda and other agencies as soon as possible so it can get emergency use authorization for this age group. visors latest trial involved about 2200 kids. researchers gave each per to spend two doses of the vaccine

petito. her family released a statement saying they are grieving and thanked law enforcement for their efforts. according to the fbi, agents found the body while searching campgrounds near teton national park. >> human remains were discovered consistent with the description of gabby petito. full forensic edification has not been completed to confirm one hunter percent that we found gabby. reggie: her boyfriend's family says they last saw him last tuesday. police are so continuing that search. today, her sister says sister says they would like to extend their condolences to her family. kumasi: converse is getting network in washington, d.c. there are several big boats coming up in the session.

reggie: president joe biden is getting ready to deliver his first speech tomorrow before the u.n. general assembly since taking office. he is expected to focus on the pandemic, climate change, and humans -- human rights abuses. this comes as pressure is building on world leaders to be more to fight global warming. you and officials are corralling up to 40 world leaders behind closed doors to coax them to step up. there is a deadline in just six weeks. that is a big international climate conference happening in scotland. mike: let's talk about what is going on back here. we have clear conditions, as you can see from our sfo camera. temperatures around the 50's all the way up to near 60 in pacifica. we did have a little bit of fog between half moon bay and pacifica. it has not been an issue so far, at least not at our reporting stations. 48 in santa rosa, 47 in napa. for one else's pre-much in the

reggie: happening now, a volcanic eruption on the spanish island off lipoma has forced thousands of people to evacuate.

while that is spewing out of at least five fissures, destroying homes as it comes down deploying huge plumes of smoke. over 35,000 people live in that area. officials ask those who remain on the island to close their windows and stay inside. the last time volcano erected there was 50 years ago and it lasted over three weeks. mike: i get the feeling mother nature and the earth are just angry. all of this stuff happening, it is amazing. we have our own issues right now. winds are gusting up to 23 mph. it is a gorgeous sunrise. big jump in temperatures today. nearly eight to 10 degrees warmer. this warm weather is going to be at the start of the game as the a's are bringing in the mariners. dropping down to 69. it will be a very comfortable day at the coliseum and hopefully one for the win column

look at this gorgeous shot of the golden gate bridge. we have winds bringing us 50's this morning. 70 of the coast throughout the afternoon. 73 to 84 around the bay. 78 to 90 inland. it gets even hotter in the forecast. i will have that coming up. kumasi: thank. happening right now, public safety power shut off is in effect right now because of expect it strong winds. this one is only affecting small pockets of napa and solano counties. we want to take a look right now at the outage map. the areas that you see there in orange are the areas where the outages are going to be. in napa, more than 1200 customers are expected to lose power pg&e says this ps ps is due to changing weather conditions. residents tell us this is a concerning reminding of past fire seasons. >> hopefully not having repeated that again. it was a very stressful time having to evacuate. we are all on well water here.

you have no water pressure. basically, there is nothing that is functional in the house about the power. reggie: -- kumasi: pg&e expect to restore power this evening. reggie: hundreds of people in the east bay are without power because of rain that knocked it out on saturday. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield's live in san pablo with the timeline to restore this. amy: bizarre, right the power outages are scattered. here at contra costa college, they have power. homes in several other areas do not. the power outages even caused some power poles to catch fire. pg&e says this happened because of the drought and the rain that we had over the weekend. they say that dirt accumulated on the lines because we had such a long rice bell and the rain this weekend turned that dirt to mud, which conducts energy and

caused outages. that meant some businesses like restaurants lost power and money. they couldn't cook without power. they also worried about their food spoiling. >> 80% of the menu, we are not serving right now. we are not taking any dine in because we cannot give them proper food. amy: here is a map showing where those outages happened. at one point, over hundred 28,000 customers lost power. pg&e did not expect his may outages. they have restored power to most customers, but the pg&e website is showing lights may come back on here in san pablo around 8:00 this morning. in oakland and el cerrito, they don't have an estimated time for when the power will be back on. they have now pushed at 8:00 starting time to 10:00. kumasi: thank you for that update.

today was supposed to be the day that the white house rolled out booster shots for everyone six teen and up, but it is not happening because on friday, an fda panel rejected that request. this week a month fda will be meeting to consider a recommendation for booster shots 65 and older and people who are at high risk. that will need to happen six months after the person receives their first shot. the fda cited alike of data for their decision. >> we want to make sure we are following the right science here because timing is everything. kumasi: in an interview on sunday, dr. fauci said despite the biden administration's plan to administer boosters more widely, he didn't think that the panel decision was a mistake. sec committee will also be considering boosters this week. they are set to meet wednesday and thursday. reggie: today, a new vaccine requirement will go into place in san jose. we'll have to show proof of

back to haiti. those migrants have really been under some tough conditions, really overwhelming order officers. >> video shows planes leaving the airports in del rio yesterday. on board, some of the estimated 13,000 people living in camps underneath a nearby bridge. most of the migrants are from haiti, a country in crisis right now after a resident assassination and a recent earthquake. the biden administration expects to transfer thousand migrants away from the bridge by the end of today. they say they will use a trump era health policy, which permitted the expulsion of migrants without allowing them to seek asylum. >> we have reason for that special circumstance and we will exercise those authorities. >> we have never seen anything like this. this is completely and totally out of the norm of anything we have ever seen. >> according to the new york times, haitian officials are

they have likely found the remains of this woman in wyoming. they're still waiting to confirm this from the autopsy this week. they're searching for her boyfriend. >> thank. authorities say the body found in wyoming was most likely gabby petito. meanwhile, her boyfriend, brian laundrie, is still missing. in an exclusive interview, maranda baker says she may have run into him days after gabby was last seen in utah. she says a man asked her for a ride and she dropped him off later that night. >> he got out and he was was thankful, but he was kind of in a hurry. he said he was going to go across the street into the parking lot and find someone else to give them a ride, but when we looked back, 10 or 15 seconds after he got out, he was gone. >> police say no one has seen him since tuesday and he has refused to cooperate with
