more. >> officials are begging you not to drive here but to take public transportation. so you can try to help cut down on the ozone pollution. officials are expecting to see higher than normal levels of ozone pollution. we also have a projected smoke forecast model by the national oceanic and atmospheric administration to show you how smoke from the fire in the the national forest could impact the bay area. >> are forecasters are working day-to-day to make that call. that's the challenge, is this a one-day episode? or will we have air quality issues if the ozone levels go down? >> today's the 14th spare the air day, in addition to the 22 advisories for poor air quality. it's better than last year when we had 52 alert days. if you are not coming here, but

highway 50 is set to reopen at 8:00 this morning. it has been closed because of the caldor fire. caltrans will reopen that stretch of highway. it was closed to fire danger and stayed close so caltrans could clear burned trees. residents were allowed access to the highway. at last check, the caldor fire was 76% contained. >> president joe biden is getting ready to deliver his first speech at the united nations. he is expected to focus on the pandemic, climate change, and human rights abuses. including the chaotic ending to the u.s. war in afghanistan. a senior administration official says the president will stress that ending the military engagement in afghanistan will open a new chapter of intensive diplomacy. abc 7 news will be airing a special report when the president speaks at 7:00. you can watch live on abc seven

and wherever you stream. >> now to the mystery around the gabby petito case, she was last seen on a road trip with her boyfriend and is officially missing area we have new developments including what a search warrant turned up. >> brian laundrie's home was searched by fbi after agents found human remains believed to be gabby petito's. police are calling him a person of interest in her disappearance. he returned from the trip on september 1 without her. a search warrant is revealing the odd final text message from her phone to her mother, reading can you help stan? i just keep getting his voicemails and missed calls. stan is his grand -- is her grandfather. her mother said that she never called him stand, suggesting petito may not have issued that text. someone in utah claimed to have seen a domestic dispute between the couple and called 911 days

before petito was last seen. >> we drove by and the gentleman was slapping the girl. >> slapping her? >> they stopped and ran up and down the sidewalk, he had her, got in the car and drove off. >> that appears to c that appear police report which said no one reported that he hit her to officers. now a park ranger who responded to that call said she warned petito that her relationship with ryan laundrie seemed toxic. >> area kids that were part of pfizer's pediatric trial. the pharmaceutical company announcing that the vaccine assay for kids five to 11. the fda could give emergency use authorization in a few weeks. here's kate larsen. >> three months after the shot as kids were injected in the vaccine trial, pfizer announced their vaccine is safe and effective in children five to 11 years old. the youngest age group yet. >> so exciting. >> mom is an icu nurse.

friend. someone punch her and knocked her to the ground. as mpd could not confirm the link between the attacks. >> the oakland police chief is begging the community to come to bat -- together to stop gun violence after the city has a troubling milestone, 100 homicides this year. to get some perspective, san francisco's homicide rate is 39. san jose is reporting 27 homicides. this time last year, oakland had reported 71 homicides. community groups have suggestions, the east oakland violence interrupters wants the city to create pathways to entrepreneurship, a gun-control advocacy group believes that the problem is with ghost guns that have no serial codes. >> your child can go online and purchase a ghost gun without you even knowing it, take it to school and take a life. >> these kids are introducedced what's possible, they cope with this mentality that they are

invincible. >> since last monday they have been 10 homicides, four in just the last four days. >> more housing coming to the east bay to help those who needed the most. oakland will house 1500 homeless residents in 16 months. the city is also building 132 new units of permanent affordable housing. the announcement was made yesterday during a virtual event to launch house america. it's a federal program, oakland will receive more than $11 million to help residents obtain safe homes. >> a temporary way to house the homeless is coming to san francisco. they are building their first village of tiny cabinets -- tiny cabins. 73 prefabricated cabins will be placed on the site, opening sometime this fall. two local nonprofits are covering the cost of $1.7 million for the project. oakland and san jose have built

this is healthy everywhere, you could see the absent ozone and wildfire smoke combines, mainly the east bay in the neighborhoods. this will have the poor air quality for those. what really sticks out, the near 80 to near 90 in san francisco. 87 in richmond, everyone else in the 90's today. at least it's not record heat. that's usually in the hundreds. we have more on this heat and more heat coming up. >> we have a major crash and san jose read the hp says multiple cars are involved. a car has overturned. injuries are involved. this is before montague expressway. the speeds are down to about six miles per hour. three lanes are blocked. i would not be a -- be surprised if this was upgraded.

a live picture in oakland. things are moving smoothly in the east bay and everywhere else except for that major crash in san jose. i do want you to know that -- want your feedback to move forward. the transit agency is hoping to restore service to pre-pandemic levels early next year. there are three options on the table, the first is called familiar. it would bring back all the roots as they were before the pandemic. the second proposal is called frequent, increasing service on high ridership lines. the third is called the highbred, as the name implies it's a blend of the first two. >> why are you doing this exercise? why aren't you just restoring the service you had prior to the pandemic? we have got these questions. the short answer is that the pandemic changed a lot, including the demand for travel downtown.
