up. some of you felt shaking early this morning. an u midnight. s th -- the usgs said it was itw 2.7. kumasi: millions of americans will have access to a booster shot, starting today. the cdc director overruled, adding to the list of people who are eligible. jobina: the doctor's paves the way for tens of millions of more americans to get a shot. yesterday, the cdc panel voted to get the extra pfizer dose six months after the second dose for those 65 and older and those at risk. the group originally voted against providing booster shots based on jobs, leaving out frontline workers, teachers and others.

>> this was the right move by the cdc director, to look at this scenario and say, those people exposed to covid-19 on a daily basis deserve to have the eligibility to get boosters alongside a 20-year-old who might have asthma. it is a rare move, but a necessary one. jobina: the doctor said she made the decision because it is in line with a booster decision earlier this week. reggie: many people in san francisco already got there booster shot. in august, san francisco general hospital gave out extra pfizer or modernity shots the people who originally got the single-dose johnson & johnson vaccine. some people went to pharmacies to get their own. >> what i spoke to my doctor, they said it was perfectly fine. at 85, what

reggie: bay area health officials say they are ready for new recommendations and will rely on pharmacies to administer the shots. the scheduling website has an option for additional doses. you will need to answer questions to confirm eligibility. if you have question about covid-19 vaccines, you can ask our vaccine team. just go to abc7news.com. kumasi: investigators believe a deadly shooting at a grocery store tennessee -- the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. five of those people are in critical condition this morning. this happened in a town 30 miles outside of memphis. the police chief called it the most horrific event he has seen in 30 years on the force. kroger will be offering counseling to its employees. >> when i heard the gunshots, i told everyone to run.

kumasi: the gunman suicide. reggie: the search for gabby petito's boyfriend, there has been an arrest warrant issued. an indictment filed claims he committed fraud by using a debit card and pin number that did not belong to him. it was used days after gabby petito is believed to have died. kumasi: people in the east bay are on high alert after a series of deadly coyote attacks. amy hollyfield is live in danville with what you need to note before you take your dog out for a walk. amy: these attacks have presidents feeling nervous -- these attacks have residents feeling nervous. one resident

with a coyote attacking her dog outside her home. there have been a number of attacks in the area. they are worried about pets in the neighborhood, but they are also concerned about maybe a human could be next. people we talked to do not want the coyote or coyotes killed, but they want the threat taken out of here. >> if they can at least be removed to a natural area, the woods, the forest, where they can do their thing and not be affecting our community, it would really help. amy: her dog was snatched out of the backyard by a coyote and she never found her. residents say it feels like situation is getting worse. people are asked to report any encounter people have. the department of fish and wildlife will try to figure out where this is located.

live in danville, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. reggie: a fast-moving fire is once again tearing through northern california. 4000 people have been forced to evacuate. governor newsom said he secured federal funding to fight the fire. a palo alto woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson. the 30-year-old walked out into the brush where the fire started and approached firefighters requesting medical help. during an interview, officers suspected she started it. it has burned 5500 acres, destroying 25 structures. it is 5% contained. dry conditions and above average temperatures -- this video shows the intense flames firefighters are up against. fires have burned 36,000 acres in sequoia national

forest. kumasi: san jose leaders will declare climate action day. officials are planning to talk about the governor's plan to combat climate change. the governor said this is the largest commitment in state history. >> traditions, lifestyle, people, places wiped off the map. that is what climate is about. this pollution blanket we put in the air. kumasi: in addition to wildfires, the money will be used for things like clean energy efforts and addressing our drought. drew: let's talk about that -- mike: let's talk about that smoke from the fires. you can see over toward yuba city and davis, we have unhealthy air for all of us, not just for those most sensitive. we cannot escape some of that

smoke, that is why there is a smoke advisory. right now, we are good to moderate, and for the most part, we will stay that way. some elevated smoke could work its way down to the surface. here is our surface smoke forecast. it is mainly up in the north bay. it kind of pushes off to the east as we head into the evening hours. wake up tomorrow morning at the surface, a bigger push of marine layer. as we head into tomorrow afternoon, possibly the diablo range could see an uptk surface smoke. as far as temperatures, mostly cloudy in san francisco. 53 in sunnyside. temperatures are a little bit milder this morning. even some 60's hanging out in the east bay valleys. san francisco, 54 at 8:00, 61 at 10:00, mid to upper 60's from noon to 6:00.

reggie: a potentially deadly problem is plaguing san jose. someone is launching metal ball bearings at buildings and cars on highway 87. damaging property along 87, between interstate 280 and highway 101. that stretch runs right through the heart of downtown. the damage already totals $500,000. some fear the bad behavior is only escalating. >> for drivers along waterloo bay freeway or highway 87 through downtown san jose, there is evidence of damage caused by metal ball bearings. items the district attorney's office that are being fired at buildings, homes and cars. >> these are not small ball bearings.

these are the size of a quarter going at 100 miles per hour. >> he said behavior by the person or people responsible is only getting worse. he said just two weeks ago, a woman in her car was targeted and had her windows blown out. >> definitely unacceptable. >> reckless. if they are doing it for fun, they have to think about the fact someone could get hurt. severe injuries. it could be deadly. >> residents along the 87 corridor says it is enough to make them consider a detour. >> i might have to take the 101 and inside road after that. >> since march, there have been 30 incidents. off 87, the san jose museum of art also saw damage. investigators are the person is using a slingshot to launch

metal ball bearings between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., already causing $500,000 in damage. this is not just property damage, people live and work behind the windows. the da's office announced a $20,000 reward in search for the highway slingshot shooter. >> you are driving your car and a silent ball bearing hits your window, it could kill you. kumasi: santa clara county is taking a big step forward in tackling its homelessness crisis. county supervisors authorized a $25 million grant for a nonprofit that specializes in building modular homes out of shipping containers. >> all of the issues that people face, particularly our

marginalized neighbors, and our own housed neighbors throughout the county and silicon valley. kumasi: there is also supportive services being added. that includes things like providing clothing and food. reggie: some progress is being made to get alameda county to sign on to a ballpark project. >> this is a good deal for everybody. we are talking about revenues that will not exist unless the project gets built. the only way it can get built for the county to participate. reggie: i spoke with the mayor and she said she is hoping county supervisors will vote next month to join with the city on an infrastructure financing district that would use property tax revenue to pay for improvements. the county has been hesitant. reports say the are making re path path path

is concerned after a series of coyote attacks left a number of dogs dead. officials are working with the department of fish and wildlife to address the threat. reggie: a large fire has forced evacuations north of reading. it is 5% contained. mike: the smoke will bring us an alert today and tomorrow. underneath all the smoke, temperatures tank this weekend to just the 60's and 70's by sunday. jobina: one alert is in san francisco on northbound 101 before cesar chavez. also moving over to the bay bridge, there is another on the upper deck. injuries have been reported. kumasi: vice president kamala harris will be on the view today. she is expected to address the biden administration's response to the crisis at the border.

reggie: jury deliberations in the r. kelly are expected to continue this morning. he is facing numerous charges. prosecution witnesses testified that kelly let a criminal enterprise and allegedly physically and sexually abused women. he faces decades in prison if convicted of the main racketeering charge. a supermodel is claiming the cosmetic procedure cool sculpting has left her disfigured. >> she is one of the most iconic supermodels in the world. linda, a household name in the 1990's, appearing in george michael's freedom, gracing the cover of almost every magazine. in a new instagram post, she claims a cosmetic procedure left her brutally disfigured.

the model writing it is the opposite of what it promised. she is now suing the maker of the procedure for $50 million. according to the website, it is an fda cleared cosmetic procedure performed more than 8 million times, marketed as a nonsurgical way to target fat cells, freezing them so they eventually break down. we will have more coming up at 7:00 a.m. kumasi: a new exhibit is bringing one of the world's most famous to san francisco. the sistine chapel is open at st. mary's cathedral. the exhibit includes high resolution photographs that include every brush stroke. visitors will be able to take photos, video and listen to an hour long in-depth audio guide. you cannot do that at the

noon. temperatures near average in san francisco. when the temperatures topple this weekend, you will notice the difference. kumasi: this morning, millions of more americans are eligible for booster shots after the cdc signed off on a third dose. the agency's director used her authority to add a key group to the list of people eligible. this is everyone eligible -- people 65 and up and residents in long-term care facilities, people with underlying medical conditions and people with jobs that put them at increased risk. that was the group added by the cdc director. she said in a statement, we must take actions that we anticipate will do the greatest good. only the pfizer vaccine is cleared for a booster right now. it is recommended six months

after your second shot. the cdc will review recommendations or moderna and j&j boosters when data is available. reggie: some neighbors of the east bay are too scared to leave their pets outside. there has been a string of deadly coyote attacks. residents are worried about what could happen next. amy hollyfield is live for us in danville. amy: you have to be on high alert here in danville. i just heard some noises and felt nervous. it was a buck, not a coyote, but that is what it feels like to be in danville. coyotes are going into people's backyards and snatching pets. a resident share this with us of a coyote attacking her dog in her own backyard. residents say there have been a number of attacks in the area.

they are worried for their pets, but also worried about what could happen next. >> i think it is super important that we focus on it right now and prevented from happening to a human. if it is a human, it will probably be a little kid or a baby. amy: her dog was grabbed out of the backyard by a car and she never found her. residents have been told to document every incident and then they will decide if the need to move in and trap and relocate, or if they should trap and euthanize. residents want the threat removed and say it is getting very scary. kumasi: thank you. we are learning more about a mass shooting at a tennessee supermarket. police said the chaos that

ensued was nothing they have ever taught with before. one woman is dead and a dozen other people are hurt. jobina: family members have identified the woman who was killed, a seven-year-old died while she was shopping -- a 70-year-old died while she was shopping. the family is devastated by this senseless act of violence. they ask that you pray for the soul of their mother. witnesses and police described the chaos that ensued when gunshots rang out. >> i latex balloons. i looked up and i saw people running. >> people were hiding in freezers and locked offices. they were doing what they had been trained to do.

jobina: police said the suspect died after shooting himself. this is a possible workplace violence incident. kroger has not said anything about the suspected shooter's employment status. in march, 10 people died after a shooting in colorado. reggie: now to washington and investigation into the january riot at the capitol. subpoenas have been issued. the question now is, will they cooperate. >> the committee investigating the january 6 attack on the u.s. capitol is targeting close aides of former president trump. >> the most significant development we have seen so far. >> the committee sending four subpoenas.

commission. reggie: the four men have men asked to appear for a deposition. kumasi: the house is set to vote on legislation that would protect a woman's right to choose to have an abortion. it is in response to a texas law that restricts abortion access. republican opposition will likely doom the bill's chance in the senate. abortion rights are set to be under threat after a texas law that would ban most abortions in the state to take effect. reggie: salesforce is relocating texas employees that no longer feel comfortable there. we spoke with the ceo. it will be in interview you will only see here on abc 7 news. >> this is the home of gay rights, home of the summer of

kumasi: after our story about a senior citizen and a teenager being punched in the head in san francisco, another victim is coming forward. a woman narrowly missed getting punched in the head on the same street. at first, she did not reported to police or understand the gravity of what happened. >> i saw a guy walking in this direction. he tried to strike me. i was able to duck and i screamed at him. thankfully i was able to avoid that. i saw that a 72-year-old got punched. i found out the 72-year-old was asian, too, and i am kumasi: all three victims believe they are linked. to find ways to protect
