they're still working on things on a hemi avenue in alamo. danville boulevard's moving in both directions, but you can tell this sinkhole is something else a hundred and seventy. nine homes still don't have water after a dramatic break in a pipe in the the middle of the night. it looked more like the rapids in a river than a suburban street just before 1 am a major break in an east bay mud water main started the waterworks. we probably got to see up close, you know a geyser in the middle of alamo. so you know that doesn't happen every day. i didn't realize that main breaks can get so bad by dawn a huge sinkhole formed as you can see from droneview 7 the flow couldn't be turned off for more than eight hours because cruz cruz had trouble accessing the valve because the torrents of water and mud, you know it watch the whole get bigger got a little nervous is more and more of the parking lots or

disappearing and street and crosswalk and had to call a lot of people and let them know the school was thatshocked that it s much water this preschool and a nearby elementary school closed for the day because this road provides the only access there have been three water main breaks. this is the third in a week in alamo. what's up? right now this is still under investigation. we're trying to determine what could be the of this so the pipe that burst is an 8 inch cut an 8 inch asbestos cement pipe that was installed in 1959 the same kind that burst earlier in the week east bay mud is investing millions in replacing aging pipelines around the bay area some home sustained damage that is still being assessed including flooding in yards and even a washed out portion of this driveway. most of the water i was tol flowed under the eight and into

a storm drain and eventually into san ramon. there are concerns about millions of gallons of chlorinated water flowing into that creek so east bay regional park district said investigating that meanwhile, i'm told that this road will have a temporary fix and will reopen to traffic sometime over the weekend, of course a permanent fix is going to take a lot longer and that water. should be restored in the next 24 hours reporting live in alamo. i'm leslie brinkley abc 7 news lesley. we're taking a look at the scene now from sky 7. we are you talking about a water service being restored to all customers within the next 24 hours? they can't be that specific. they are hopeful that they will restore to all customers. this is a main if they repair it bu ofthing should be good to go course, larry and they're saying

saturday morning is the targeted goal for restoring the water service. but this road, i mean they've got so much to do to even put the temporary fix on it. tomorrow is the goal might take a little longer than that back to you. that actually was my next question. looks to be massive and extremely deep i would think that the intersection would be closed through most of weekend. is that what you're hearing? i am hearing that they hope to have a temporary fix on this tomorrow. that's according to east bay mud. again, they are asking neighbors who were affected by this water break to contact them if anyone had property damage for a lack of water. they should directly contact east bay mud about that. but right now this is a kind of a name thorough there into pocket neighborhood and that's shut own right now, so some people are going around on the iron horse trail or finding other ways back to their homes. all right. thanks for the update leslie

brinkley reporting live in alamo. governor newsome came to san francisco today to announce an emergency order requiring all students to get the covid-19 vaccine. want to get this behind us get this economy moving again. make sure our kids never have to worry about getting a call saying they can't go to school the next day because one of the kids are a staff member we're tested positive. the new mandate will take effect. once the vaccine is fully authorized by the fda for younger age groups. it is expected to be sold out in two phases with students in grade 7 through 12 expected to be vaccinated by july of next year based on current fda timelines. there's no real timeline for kindergarteners. sixth graders as the fda has not approved the vaccine yet for even emergency use in children younger than age 12, although that's expected to come soon. the governor is expecting backlash over the new order if you want to attack someone attack me, i was the first governor of the country to acquire masking for all our public schools. i was the first governor of the

country to require vaccine verifications and/or testing and now we're leaning and again you want to go after someone go after me. the new mandate will also apply to all staff members as state schools, california has now become the first state in the country to require students to get the covid-19 vaccine now before the governor's announcement the west contra costa unified school district board voted to approve. own vaccine mandate, it requires students employees volunteers board members vendors and contractors be vaccinated as well. those eligible will need to have one shot by november 15th and their second shot by december 15th. that's well before the governor's mandate in the south bay now, san jose police have come to an agreement with the city over mandatory vaccinations. the update allows unvaccinated city workers a one-week grace period to receive their first dose of the covid-19 vaccine and if they don't will be placed on a one-week unpaid suspension. our whole outlook on this was really when we talked about the

vaccinate or accommodate giving an individual their choice. of course, we always encouraged our members to get vaccinated but we also respected an individual's choice. and again, i think agreement is is working towards that. the agreement affects 140 unvaccinated san jose police officers as well as dispatchers those who remain unvaccinated we'll have to test twice a week at their own expense and could still face termination after the end of the year. drug maker merck says it has developed a covid pill that can reduce the risk of hospitalization or death by about covert by about 15% if you get covid now merck says the drug malnupurevir was so effective. it halted its study if all goes according as planned it would become the first oral antiviral medicine to get fda emergency use authorization to treat covid. i asked her vaccine team member dr. alok patel how it works.

it's a retrospect and historically documents the struggle that began 40 years ago and the organizing of the community for justice and equity and to end racism within the police department here in san francisco, but most important also it's showcases all the different car clubs and low riders that have been part of the history of cruising here in the mission district in san francisco. so we get to celebrate what we do what we like to do. it's a way to show who i am. this is me. and i'm proud to be a lowrider because it's the reflection of who i am my heart. my soul my spirit my mind you feel it in you? yes, it's beautiful. over 40 years ago here on mission street in san francisco. we've come cruising the police department. in they started citing us and then they started arresting us.

it was a big dilemma about police brutality in the mission society wasn't accepting the low and slow movement. and so what we did was we began to get organized and i founded the san francisco low rider council during that time. i got arrested 113 times and got beat up several times and it was worth it because at the end we won and we got a right to cruise so it was beautiful about that now is that you know low riding is beyond accepted but appreciated respected and admired. throughout the last 40 years, you know, we've been involved in fundraising for schools. we've been part of our missional eviction fighting fighting the gentrification and more importantly. is pandemic we've been part of the mission food hub. there was people that were
