monday. it is good to moderate as you will notice here. the surface smoke forecast will show you the hayes bang lingering. it might get worse around the santa cruz mountains and then it still stays hazy on sunday. i will be back with a look at the temperatures and the possibility of rain. i know you are excited. larry: i will take every drop we can get at this point. sandhya: we need it. larry: in the south bay, san jose's city attorney's office has filed a civil lawsuit against two men and others they believe are behind social media accounts promoting illegal sideshows. back in june, the city voted to make it illegal to encourage those sideshows and street racing on social media. amanda spoke with the legal analyst about this new development. >> sideshows, social media posts, and a civil lawsuit filed by the city of san jose.

court documents name the defendants in the instagram account believed to be owned by them. documents point to sj on instagram, alleging the man had already been cited for crimes related to sideshow activity. reading he continues to engage in the organizing and promotion of these events on social media and the internet. >> they have instructed people not just how to get there, but what to do when they get there. that is where the line has been crossed here. >> a analyst says the city's law which promotes is -- criminalizes the promotion of sideshows raises questions about free speech rights, but he understands that dangerous behavior must be addressed. social media today allows people to instantly communicate with -- with large groups of followers, which makes it difficult for law enforcement. over the next three hours, san jose police responded to

sideshow activities at four more locations corresponding to the addresses posted by sj takeovers, an account with nearly 15,000 followers. >> there is a spillover effect not just for the participants, but the people who are around it and the people who live in these communities and also the police trying to enforce the law. >> dating back to december 2020, sj takeovers posted meet up locations which often attracted more than 100 cars. document say the illegal activity grew more reckless as responding officers heard gunshots, saw fireworks, and say spectators threw rocks at police vehicles. if the city prevails, there are a list of penalties. in san jose, i'm amanda del castillo. larry: california will require eligible students get vaccinated for covid-19. kate larsen is a member of our own vaccine team. she was at the announcement

today and has the timeline for when this will go into effect. >> we want to end this pandemic. we are all exhausted by it. kate: with that, the governor announced all california students, public and private, kindergarten through 12th grade, the vaccinated against the again coronavirus once the shot is fully approved by the fda. >> we want to see all of our staff also see them get vaccinated. kate: he is directing california's department of public health to add the covid vaccine to the list of diseases that children must be immunized against in order to attend school. there will be accommodations for medical and religious exemptions. >> it is a really good step and it is not over yet. the fight to get everybody vaccinated. kate: 113-year-old in marin -- one 13-year-old in marin, he testified at the state capital

in support of a bill that removed personal belief as an exemption for school vaccine requirement. he is a leukemia survivor and could not attend school because 7% of his fellow students were not immunized against childhood diseases, which could have killed him. he is now vaccinated against covid. >> i'm still slightly immunocompromised. i applaud governor newsom. >>'s father said the mandate will protect everyone. >> we try to tell people that vaccine refusal is a decision that endangers others. >> i'm vaccinated. my kids are vaccinated. kate: one special education teacher need extra protection. >> i happen to know a couple of teachers that are battling cancer right now that are in chemotherapy, they need to be protected. it is about protecting our community and it is the right thing to do.

kate: but not everyone is enthusiastic. i spoke to a dad here and he is disappointed with newsom's announcement. he has children who are five and eight years old and does not plan on getting either of them vaccinated anytime soon. there will be some family to have to grapple with tough decisions in the next year or so. in san francisco, i'm kate larsen. larry: covid headlines now. the u.s. has reached a sobering new milestone. today, the death toll surpassed 700,000, making this the deadliest pandemic in american history. vaccines for children ages five to 11 appear to be coming soon. the surgeon general calls this the fda's top priority. production of those at home rapid covid tests ramping up. 50 million promised by the end of the month and that comes as there is a potential breakthrough for those battling covid-19. mark has developed a virus fighting pill, cutting the risk

officials hope to reopen the parts that were not damaged by next week. san francisco police and fire are investigating. crews will be working into the night to repair the damage done by a water main break in alamo that still has some people out of their homes. the break happened early this morning. it took crews nearly eight hours to finally get the water turned off. during the flooding, a huge sinkhole formed. more than 180 homes have been impacted. some were damaged. the water remains often that area. it is the end of an era for bay area wildlife. pg&e is shutting off its popular falcon cam. it sits atop the former headquarters in san francisco. viewers around the world have watched nearly 50 baby falcons hatch over the years, but since pg&e recently sold the building, the camera is going to be turned off two weeks from today. in the east bay, the popular

first friday festival in oakland is back for the first time in over a year. we were there tonight speaking with artists and business owners who have been waiting through the entire pandemic to finally showcase their work. >> the music, the dancing, the food. all of it is back. oakland's first friday festival is here. >> after a most two years, this is amazing. >> the last time adriana and her family came to first fridays, her daughter was four months old. today, she speaks and even has her own opinions about the festival. welcoming the crowd of 30,000 to 50,000 people who typically come to this outdoor festival are stores and three live bands. >> this is historical, important, and powerful. >> powerful economic boost for small businesses. >> the smoothie. i got sandals. >> as well as food stands. >> i live in stockton.
