they told us that they are also against the mandate and they point to research that shows that air travel with masks is safe. on the flipside, supporters say that vaccines, not masks, are the long-term solution. >> many inks do you. >> while the international air transport association said today that recovery is been site for the industry. airlines are forecasted to lose $52 billion this year. they are expected to lose $11 billion next year. the iata expects travel demand to double next year. they say that the vaccination rate and the lifting of border restrictions will determine the pace of recovery. the centers for disease control has removed the holiday guidance that appeared on its website on friday. they tell abc news that the vague guidance is not current and they will share more soon. the fda has approved a new

rapid covid test. federal data shows that daily covid deaths are eight times higher than mid july. the daily averages 1500. hospitalizations have dropped by 15% in the last week. >> the oakland mayor took a somber tone discussing violence in his city. >> september 2021 has been the most violent month of the year. it is sad to say that we lost 17 lives in the month of september. >> the violence continued on the first day of october. education activist dirk tilleson was kind down in his own -- gunned down hin his own home. that shooting is sending shock and sadness through the oakland community.

laura anthony spoke with friends and colleagues who remember the man whom they say was a tireless advocate for oakland's most disadvantaged students. >> this is a person who focused on students and equity and families. >> david silver is talking about dirk, the tireless education advocate murdered by an intruder in his home. >> it is not ok that someone who has given so much to others has this happen them. police say that he heard a noise and went to investigate and was shot i the intruder. >> there are some motives we are looking into that i cannot discuss today. we have a couple of angles, none of which should have led to his death. >> he was about internet access

california. 144,000 gallons of crude poured into the ocean from the underwater pipeline. officials are looking into whether or not a ship's anchor may have struck the line. the health and wildlife in the area is a major concern. our sister station in los angeles has this story. >> where searching for oiled animals from bolsa chica to laguna and further south. teams are searching on water and land and are not able to clarify how much water has been affected by the oil spill. >> we are collecting information from our teams, calls from the public. we are doing reconnaissance to look at what animals may be out of the general spill area. we are doing overflights to count the number of animals in the area. combining that information, we will have a much better estimate further on as to the damage. to date, we have collected three

live oil birds, one brown pelican, one american coot, one unfortunately, the brown pelican had chronic injuries that required us to humanely euthanize it. we have a fourth bird that was collected from our teams, an oiled sanderling. we have sightings of additional oiled gulls and other shorebirds that are flighted. there difficult to catch. we are pursuing other alternative capture strategies such as missed nets and other techniques to catch them quickly. >> facebook, instagram and what'sapp are back online after being down for hours. the outage came after i whistleblower came forward to share her story. she claims facebook uses its algorithms to amplify hate to extend user engagement.

in the east bay and south bay it is moderate. look at live doppler 7. we have a system pushing into the northwest. that will be sending up higher clouds but has also started bringing up that southerly surge. you can see a beautiful view from the emeryville camera. 69 in the city, 81 in oakland. if you're not feeling it inland, just wait. from the san jose camera you can see another hazy view. 94 in fairfield. you topped out. in the upper 90's conquered and livermore in the low 90's. fog and high clouds overnight. cooler weather for the workweek. there is a slight chance of drizzle and showers between friday and saturday. it's not looking promising but we will keep you posted. we start tomorrow with cloudiness.

the fog continues to stream in. morning temperatures will be in the 40's to the 60's tomorrow afternoon. you are looking at the 80's inland as opposed to the 90's. look at what is coming on wednesday. even cooler weather. we keep that downward trend going on thursday. even into friday when most of you will be in the 60's. we will have to switch from short sleeves to longsleeved. on friday, there might be some drizzle and a slight chance of showers going into saturday. the models have been backing off. a cooling trend tomorrow, cleaner air. cooler for wednesday and thursday. temperatures will bottom out friday with a possibility of a couple drops between friday and saturday, warming backup by monday.
