francisco skyline this morning. a frightening scene at new york's laguardia airport. passengers had to deplane setliz: flight -- >> what if hd something. liz: the plane made an emergency landing as it arrived from indianapolis. law enforcement met it on the runway and took a passenger custody for questioning. thankfully, nobody was hurt. hundreds of southwest flights canceled from coast-to-coast yesterday, leaving many stranded passengers wondering what the actual reason is. air traffic control said disruptive weather is the main cause but a bloomberg report suggested the airlines' pilots may be boycotting the vaccine mandate. on friday, the southwest airlines pilots association asked the court to temporary block the company from enforcing

vaccine mandate. southwest set the deadline for all employees to be vaccinated by last monday. the white house said 7 million covid doses were administered this past week, the highest number since the beginning of july. nearly 66% of americans eligible to get a shot are fully vaccinated. according to the tsa, 2.1 million people traveled friday, marking one of the busiest at america's air force -- air -- airports since -- floats and marching bands to celebrate the dedication of the service workers of the pandemic. >> we have so many different kinds of heroes, police, fire. this is very inclusive today. this is just reconnecting with what is good in the community and all the good that happened in the community this year.

it is pretty joyful. liz: the event began in 1945 when the community welcomes home world war ii veterans. it is one of the longest running events in santa clara history. it is the first time it has been held since 2019. to keep chinatown safe in oakland, pepper spray was handed out at a distribution event good the safety committee hosted the event, giving people the opportunity to pick up the self-defense tool. they provided instructional classes and how to properly use it. it is in response to the increased violence in the area, especially against elderly people. >> you can walk into chinatown and you can see it. liz: pepper spray was donated by a safety brand with police.

and wind advisory. the warning comes in tonight and here is the wind advisory going into effect at 9:00 on monday through 8:00. north, northeasterly winds bring in cool air. you can see all of the bay area. 8:00, 20 to 40 mile-per-hour winds. by noon on monday, wind gusting at 40 miles per hour. tuesday doesn't look as bad, but this does go until i've :00 on tuesday. at 4:00, 15 -- until 5:00 untilu tuesday. 11:00 today, dry in santa rosa. overnight, we get the recovery where humidity is up to 80%.

liz: the pandemic put thousands of athletes' dreams on hold. abc 7 followed three athletes for a year to make a new series, "the lost season," which is coaches and parents and tom brady even fought to let them play. >> let them play. >> you need to let them play now. >> our kids are in an underdog world right now in california. about 3 million kids haven't played march 12. any message you would like to send to these kids battling through this time? >> it is probably one of the toughest things they have gone through. when you are 14, 15, 16, 17, it is a lot tougher page you don't have the life experience to deal

with it. i want to let all of them know that a lot of people support them. >> 10,000 letters and signatures delivered asking the governor and legislators to allow youth and high school sports to start immediately. they say data and science demonstrate it is so -- safe for them to play. >> outdoor sports are safe for kids. >> we are not going to stop good we are full speed ahead until you are wearing your pads and bouncing basketballs and you are playing. >> a major announcement that many families had been waiting for. >> we are not confident good guide lines that we can get sports moving again in the state of california. >> we started this quest with 3 million kids on the bench and today they are all off of the bench.

this morning it is chilly. 47 in sunnyvale. mid 40's in nevada. 50 in newark. this is definitely colder than we have been. the winds at 9:00, near 60 inland. clear, sunny and warming by noon time. orange coming into play indicating warm weather from upper 70's into 80 inland. we are looking at mid 70's in the south bay. windy and we are getting set for northerly wind cranking up and a red flag warning from 5:00 through 5:00 tuesday. gust could be over 50 miles per hour. this time it comes with chilly air. we will detail that and talk about how windy and cool it is going to get. liz: the number of teen you to drop across the country -- the

numbers of cases continue to drop across the country. we have the details. tai: the number of people are traveling on the rise. 2.1 million people screened by tsa friday. the last time was at the start of august, just 65% of americans are now fully vaccinated. >> some communities are really well vaccinated and then there are pockets of places that have very little protection. the virus isn't stupid. it is going to go there. tai: 7 million administered, the highest since july. vaccine mandates go into effect. in washington, seattle police officers have until october 18 to submit proof of vaccination or face the possibility of getting fired. more than 200 officers haven't

done it yet. the number of pediatric cases of the virus is declining but some children's hospitals reporting an uptick in cases of our rare pediatric inflammatory syndrome that causes an inflammation of the heart, lungs, and kidneys. >> we know the delta variant has impacted kids more than previous waves have done, and so it is not early that big of a surprise a couple weeks after the first cases of covid start rolling and then you start seeing those cases rolling in. tai: children eligible for the vaccine. pfizer has requested emergency use authorization for kids five to 11 years old. liz: blocking a vaccina or harassing people now is against the law in california. governor gavin newsom signed a bill making it a misdemeanor for

protesters to physically interfere with vaccination efforts or harass or intimidate people at clinics. this is in response to briefly shutting down a mass vaccination site back in in january. this applies to all vaccination sites, not just those for covid-19. covid restrictions have caused many to turn away volunteers. the welcome mat is out at a peninsula hospital where four-legged volunteers are back on the job. our reporter childress why this -- our reporter shows us why his tail is wagging. >> the 90 pound black lab is a pet therapy dog visits weekly at sequoia hospital. her human said it is great to be back. >> she enjoys it. the patient's, if they are open to see a dog, if they are in bed

liz: here is a live look outside. i am sure a lot of people had a late night watching the giants game. some residents on well water are reaching a tipping point where they could have no water left. the county is asking the water district to supply those families with water from the already depleting reservoirs. there aren't any options. >> that is the sound of a hollow well. >> normally it is just a dense sound. >> after months of drought in northern california, she said this is the new reality. >> there are some days where if you are the last person to wake up, good luck flushing the toilet.

>> she is the sanctuary managy g at an animal sanctuary her family owns and operates. it is where her family lives and they rely on their property's four wells for water. another sign is this echo of an empty tank. that in turn has meant less water for irrigation. the vineyards on the property are dry and the al of trees, sadly dead. >> we have been taking one shower a week pretty much and doing military style showers every other day. >> many residents finding their wells drying up to a point where they could completely run out of water. they are now asking the water district to supply water from the local reservoirs to these families. >> this is for when you run out and have no other choice. >> if it passes, they will provide 55 gallons of water per

person per day to every applicable household or the reservoirs are also depleting. the county supervisor says it will have a minimal impact on supply and there is not really another option. >> customers are telling us they cannot find additional water. >> are you scared? >> yeah, it is not fun to think that you could be without water for, i don't know, a couple of weeks, a couple of months, who knows. liz: a scary situation we continue to see not much rain. we are now having a red flag running so fire danger is a threat. lisa: that begins at 5:00. the wind advisory, not just in the mountains, but that is in the valleys encompasano, sanate. it that will be dropping down on the backside of

california and that allows for cold air and very gusty winds. chili conditions from walnut creek. livermore in the upper 40's. the upper, clear air allowing for cold temperatures this morning. 42 in napa. anywhere from a degree to eight degrees colder. we start out with cool conditions, milder today but the winds kick up. a red flag warning 5:00 tonight through tuesday afternoon. and a wind advisory throughout the day tomorrow. we usually see it in the upper elevations up to 30 miles an hour. gusts could exceed 50 miles per hour. secure outdoor objects and a lot of the trees are drought stressed.
