and san francisco. 52 in san ramon. we will get windier throughout the day. right now, 23 to 22 mile-per-hour gusts. we are gusting to 20 in oakland. 21 in san mateo. a windy day out there. it will be sunny and brisk. much cooler temperatures today. >> overnight, the usgs is reporting a magnitude 6.9 earthquake along the southern alaska peninsula. this struck after 2:00 a.m. our time. there are no reports of any injuries and no tsunami warnings have been issued. we will update you on this as we learn more information. >> pg&e is warning about power outages because of high fire danger. here is a look at the pg&e map, showing areas where electricity could be cut today. napa and solano counties could

be the first to experience outages, as soon as right now. alameda and contra costa counties are expecting to lose power alone -- around 5:30 this morning. sonoma county could see outages around 6:00. pg&e says though outages are likely, they are not certain. pg&e has reduced the number from 4000 customers affected to 2500. >> there are feelings of restriction and anxiety for pg&e customers dealing with the latest warning of power shutoffs. amy hollyfield is live with all of this -- more on all of this. >> we are at the base and it is calm here. the winds were in the higher elevations. even if you don't experience wind down here, it is in the higher elevations that pg&e is worried about. pg&e says the power shutoffs are lifesaving. they are a key positive -- key,

positive part of firefighting but some residents do not see it that way. pg&e says the latest power safety shop will impact 4000 customers in napa, sonoma, contra costa and alameda counties. they are doing it because of dry, windy conditions, saying they are trying to prevent their equipment from sparking a fire. some say this makes life difficult. >> we are a little frustrated. just because we live -- just because we are on a well. if we don't have power, we don't have water. a couple of days of that puts us behind. then, we have kids. it is frustrating. we are over it. >> hardware stores are now low on generators, batteries and flashlights, as people prepare for the outage. the lights, they say, will likely be off until tuesday. so, that means some giants fans may be without power tonight and will be able to watch the game at home. -- will not be able to watch the

game at home. if you have power, you may want to invite him over to watch the game. >> solano county could be one of the most affected by pg&e ease latest event -- pg&e's latest event. pg&e has been tracking the weather system in the county where wind speeds are estimate it to reach 50 miles per hour this morning. the battalion chief says pg&e is doing the right thing, shutting off power. the weather patterns were giving him flashbacks of the lmu complex fire. >> low humidity and high winds is the recipe of commendation -- combinations of things that increase fire spread. >> despite the support from the fire department, pg&e continues to face criticism from solano county residents as they prepare for their fourth psps of the year. you can keep track of real-time weather conditions wherever you live.

it shows the air quality and seven-day forecast. you can find it by downloading the abc 7 bay area news app to your device. >> and antiviral pill made to treat covid-19 is closer to being authorized. merck applied for emergency use operation. the medicine is used to treat mild to moderate cases of covid-19 adults who are at risk of worsening to the point of hospitalization. clinical trials found the medicine reduced the risk of hospitalization or death by 50%. the fda will review the application. >> southwest airlines is dealing with another round of cancellations and delays this one. according to flight where, more than 300 flights have been canceled today and 175, delayed. this comes after hundreds of cancellations across the country over the weekend, including some in the bay area. tim johns was at oakland international, with the response from the airline. >> chaos and confusion at airports across the country this

weekend, with southwest airlines canceling over 1800 flights over the past few days. some of those affected, also here in the bay area. d be cance ca had to spen southwest says them stems from bad weather and air traffic control issues. they tell abc 7 in a statement, we experienced weather challenges in our florida airports at the beginning of the weekend. challenges that were compounded by unexpected air traffic control in shoes -- issues in the same region, triggering delays and prompting significant cancellations for us, beginning friday evening. the faa has denied any current problems, saying there have been no major air traffic control issues since friday. despite the crazy week and for many southwest passengers, other airlines have not extremist issues to the same extent. on sunday alone, southwest canceled over one quarter of all their scheduled flights. that compares to less than 2% by

american airlines. in a separate statement issued sunday, the union rep sending southwest pilots denied the issues were caused by the company's recent vaccine mandate. they say there are false claims of job actions by southwest pilots, currently gaining traction on social media and making their way into mainstream news. i can say with certainty that there are no work slowdowns or six outs related -- sick outs related to the vaccine mandate or otherwise. as of sunday evening, southwest flights flying out of oakland airport were operating almost as normal. the airline says it is working diligently to address remaining problems. that is still little comfort for some travelers. >> it would be nice if they answered the phone or, at least tried to get you to another flight. >> in oakland, tim johns, abc 7 news. >> the giants are gearing up for

now. we checked the outage map. no outages in the bay area yet. i checked in with pg&e and they say this has not been canceled. there is a possibility the power could go out. it minimized -- they have minimized how money people it will affect. they say this power safety shut up will have a minimal effect in the bay area. about 4000 customers in napa, sonoma, contra costa, and alameda counties are expect to lose power. they do this to keep their equipment from sparking a fire. some residents say they hate the inconvenience and sometimes wonder if these shutoffs are necessary. >> last time the power went out, it was not windy. when it was windy, the power was not off. so, i don't know what their deal is. >> a meteorologist m meteorologm potential weather system that could bring dry, dusty, onshore winds.

control issues since friday. >> all of the cancellations are southwest and none of the other flights are from other airlines. >> the southwest cancellations sunday amounted to around 29% of the airline's schedule. others, including allegiant, american, and spirit also canceled flights, but far fewer. it is the latest major disruption for southwest, after stepping shortages fueled delays this summer. southwest's pilots union is blaming airline management for the cancellations. reggie: this morning, there is growing concern over the impact of covid vexing mandates on first responders and military personnel. many members are refusing to get vaccinated as deadlines loom. los angeles -- the los angeles sheriff says he will not be enforcing the requirement that all los angeles county employees get their shots. >> i don't want to be in position to lose 10% of my work fees -- workforce overnight.
